Just returned from a week in Belize. The jungle is by far the better place to visit as compared to San Pedro. Ek'Tun is reached by a fairly long & very bumpy drive from San Ignacio, then a quick motor boat ride across the Macal River. The grounds are every bit as beautiful as the reviews. The huts are very...

This place is truly exceptional; the scenery is spectacular, the location private and exotic -- moreover, the hostess/owner is a terrific cook who aims to please at mealtimes and will arrange all of the trips and activities one could hope for. My only complaint is the howler monkey that the owner has adopted -- the monkey is not adjusting well...

I would say that staying at Ek' Tun is a once-in-a-lifetime experience if it weren't for the fact that we already can't wait to go back. We stayed at Ek' Tun for 5 nights on our honeymoon, and it was absolutely the most memorable, awe-inspiring, beautiful place my husband and I have ever been. Ek' Tun is a 200-acre property...

We overnighted at one of my favorite lodges in Belize - Ek'Tun Lodge, on the Macal River 12 miles upstream from San Ignacio. Owner Phyllis Lane is the feisty, opinionated lady who has created a most interesting place to stay, though it isn't for everyone. To get to the lodge, you have to cross the Macal by boat. There are...

While Ek Tun is set amidst stunning beauty, it is truly a remote jungle experience. The romantic notion of no electricity in the lovely cottage meant absolutely sweltering heat with not even a fan. Sleeping in pools of sweat was awful for us. The food was excellent, and the owner gracious, but one needs an extremely high tolerance for heat,...

Ek Tun was a spectacular experience. Phyllis was so helpful from planning through arrival to departure the experience was effortless. I was very nervous about a trip to the jungle, but I was amazed beyond expectation. My only complaint is that 3 days was not enough time, if I would have known the wonders of Ek Tun I would have...

We just got back from Belize and stayed at Ek' Tun which is nearby San Ignacio. It is a 200 acres on the slope of the Macal river. There are only two cottages on the property so there is tons of privacy. Phyllis, the owner and host, has built the most incredibly beautiful spring fed pool that looks like it...

My husband and I just returned from a week and a half vacation to Belize. The first part of our trip we stayed at Ek Tun, which is more like an elaborate bed-and-breakfast than a hotel. My husband and I have stayed at some amazing places before, but Ek Tun may very well be our favorite. The grounds are gorgeous....

As I sit here at the keyboard, I'm not sure how to begin. In the title of this review, I say that I still dream about Ek' Tun. That's literal. Occasionally I will dream about Belize and Ek' Tun. Belize is one of the favorite places we have been (it's neck and neck with Australia as one of our favorite...

My husnband and I just got back from a most memorable honeymoon at EkTun in the Cayo District in Belize. If you love the outdoors and have an appreciation for nature, while staying in comfortable surroundings, make your plans to go to Ek Tun NOW. My 8-5pm work requires me to travel extensively. I also have done much recreation travel...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Ek Tun is a secluded, private retreat, featuring lush tropical gardens in the midst of a rugged, neotropical rainforest. Not open to the general public, exclusive to our registered guests, we have no roads and are accessed only by boat to the wild side of the Macal River. Our two spacious, rustically elegant thatched cottages both have views of the river and are comfortably furnished with a charming combination of mahogany, wicker and hand-crafted furniture, with romantic evening lighting provided by oil lamps and candles. Each has a sitting area and double bed downstairs, and double bed in the loft. Bathrooms have hot and cold water in both shower and lavatory. The cottages are situated for privacy and our "adults only" policy assures a secure, restful or romantic hideaway where you can meet the challenges of the jungle and restore your connection with nature. Deliciously healthy gourmet meals with many ingredients grown on the premises are prepared to your dietary preferences. Meals are served family style with your attentive host and other guests or can be catered to your cottage. Enjoy the extensive hiking trails and the unsurpassed birding on the premises, skinny dip in the spring-fed mineral pool, kayak, go river tubing, explore caves or visit numerous Mayan ruins and local attractions in the surrounding area. Rediscover your own wild side with our unique blend of hospitality, tropical nature and adventure. ... more   less
