our experience was very disappointing!!
we arrive in the rooms
where the pretty much clean.. bathroom hair on the floor and bathtub!
we point this out as soon as we arrive in the room.
Breakfast there isn't much... pastries nothing incredible, the same goes for the rest... in the morning at 9:30 a.m. they close breakfast! incredible...if you want to rest and go have lunch around 10 a.m. it closes!
the first day the room was not cleaned when we returned!
2 bullet excuses because my children slept until 11 a.m.... never seen before!!
super expensive for the services provided
we will not return to this hotel
not up to what we expected!
too bad because the location is incredible

Spoke English. Clean room. Older type hotel, (elevator was a give-away) Few vacationers staying. Probably busy during the summer, as it boasts large lawn/gardens in the rear of the hotel, plus tennis courts & swimming pool. Good breakfast in private separate area from lobby, looking over lawn. We did not eat at the restaurant, so unable to comment.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights after our Air BnB fell through. The hotel was immaculately clean, and the staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating. Breakfast, as with many European hotels was extra, 12Euros. But it was well catered, and the nicest thing was the fresh squeezed orange juice. The hotel had a lovely setting in the trees at the edge of Melun, with a very clean swimming pool and a tennis court. The rooms were average sized for Europe, but had a full balcony for each room. Strangely, there were very few people staying here, surprising for such a nice hotel.

I am extremely disappointed with the experience we had with this hotel when renting a room for our wedding. Having been loyal customers for over ten years, we were shocked by their total lack of integrity and unprofessional attitude.

The management and the event coordinator were nonchalant and unwilling to find suitable solutions. The worst part is their dishonesty. They charged us completely unjustified additional fees, even though everything had been agreed upon in advance. Every attempt to discuss these issues was met with indifference, or even hostility.

We feel betrayed and deeply disappointed by the treatment we received. This hotel, once reliable, has become a place to avoid for any special occasion. A word of advice: avoid this place if you want to avoid disappointment and frustration on the day of your event.

This hotel, located in the city of Melun, has very nice view and gardens. It is surrounded by trees, the back yard feels like you are in the middle of a forest! There is a decent sized swimming pool ( it's open and not heated so only serves the purpose in the summer).
Restaurant is ok. The breakfast is somewhat diverse. I personally like to have a good breakfast to start a day. I was satisfied with the choices.
The rooms and the aisles look very old, the beds are firm though .Beds are clean, but i would suggest the hotel to remove the old looking carpets. The lifts are very old and rusty. I stayed on the top floor and chose to walk up and down the stairs not to feel depressed in 1 sqm elevators.
The view is also nice depending what you are facing, I personally chose the forest and the pool view. The staff are very attentive but again do not expect much.

I picked this hotel from a mix of trip advisor reviews, location and price. Very well appointed rooms at the right price, many facilities that we did not use (gym, billiards, swimming pool) also. It is situated within easy walking distance of the Melun rail station with very regular (10 mins) trains to Paris (€12). On the negative side the restaurant menu did not appeal which was a bit disappointing as the only other restaurant is a Buffalo Grill which is situated opposite the Grand Monarque. The Grill IS well used, nearly full when we used it. I would certainly use the hotel again.

Stayed two separate nights at Le Grand Monarque to pick up and return a hire car at the office nearby at the start and finish of a week away.  Having booked it solely for its convenient location we were very pleasantly surprised by the hotel. It is a modernish multi-storey building set back from the road in beautifully wooded grounds. It is designed so all rooms (as far as I can tell) have a small balcony and look onto the woods or swimming pool. That was another surprIse - it seems an odd location for a hotel with a decent-sized outdoor pool - a spa/resort hotel plonked down in the suburbs.  The pool was just being cleaned and opened for the season so we are looking forward to using it on a stay later in the year.

Both rooms we stayed in were of a reasonable size with comfortable, if firm, beds and modern shiny bath/shower rooms. Delighted to find tea and coffee making facilities and good, free wifi in the room. The restaurant was excellent with interesting, well-prepared and nicely presented food. The only criticism was the lack of enough sauce with the main courses - which seems rather a trifling complaint! Finally, the staff were very friendly and helpful.

This hotel gets a mixed review from us.

When we arrived, we received lovely service. Coming from the UK that morning, we finally reached Le Grand Monarque, exhausted, at about 1 a.m. The night clerk was quite thoughtful. When the elevator malfunctioned with our bags inside, he pressed some buttons to reset it. The doors closed with us outside the elevator. The clerk bounded up four flights of stairs to the 5th floor, unloaded our bags, and sent the car back down for us. He waited with our bags until we arrived at the 5th floor. Our room was clean, but so small that we could not access our suitcases. The bed was quite comfortable and the bathroom immaculate.

Our main concern was being lied to by the daytime clerk, who spoke perfect English. We had booked the first night through Booking.com for 70 Euros. The second day, we asked to stay a second night and were told the price would double to 140 Euros because the hotel was entirely booked for that night. When we arrived at the hotel at 11 pm from a late dinner, only 2 or 3 cars were in the hotel's parking lot. Clearly the hotel was not fully booked. Had we to do it again, we would have had tea at the MacDonalds down the block and used their free wifi to book that second night using Booking.com.

When we reached our room at 11 pm, we were surprised and disappointed to see that housekeeping had not visited our room that day. We telephoned the night clerk, a different fellow from the first night. He offered no apology for our room not being refreshed. When we requested clean towels, he said he would be right up. After 20 minutes, we phoned again to find out when he would be up so we could go to sleep. About 10 minutes later he showed up, saying he'd been delayed by something at his desk.

First impressions last and an empty car park in August and tatty lawns as we pulled in aroused concerns. The hotel was virtually deserted and the grounds looked scruffy. The Junior Suite was more of a large double really and the air conditioning didn't work. This was put down to a storm earlier in the day but still wasn't repaired by the second night of our 2 night stay. Reception did provide us with 2 fans when we asked for them which helped as the room was very hot, especially with 4 of us in it.

The room and the bathroom were both clean and tidy but the stay was less than inspiring and we wouldn't return if we needed to stay in the area again.

On the plus side, we had a straightforward drive to Disney in 35 minutes and to the centre of Paris in 45 minutes so the location is handy to avoid high prices nearer the locations if you have a car.

We stayed here just one night but would have been quite happy to stay longer. The setting in its park-like gardens with pool and tennis made it seem like a resort. The room was nicely appointed although small as is common in Europe. The bathroom was marble with excellent fixtures. Everything sparkling clean. It had a/c and free WiFi in the room and plenty of closet space. Another nice feature was the double doors so any possible noise from hallway would not bother you. We found it very quiet and comfortable. We also liked that there was free, secure parking.
The staff was really friendly and helpful. We ate dinner there as well as having the breakfast buffet. Both meals were excellent in every way. The breakfast buffet was substantial and available from an early hour.

"I would suggest you get a room at the back side of the hotel that faces the trees and/or the pool. To be frank the ones facing the main rood are not bad at all too. So either way you are not loosing or gaining much. The noise level is always at a min. in this hotel anyway."
