What an lovely and special place this is. Loving the beautiful gardens and flowers that you wake up to looking outside your bedroom window, to the delicious and large breakfast offered. Our hosts were kind and gracious and we truly loved our stay. Wish we could have spend even more time there. We'll be back! Thank you for a wonderful experience.
Elizabeth and David are the most gracious and friendly hosts ever. The house is nice and the rooms clean and comfy. And....breakfast was AMAZING ! The gardens are impeccable, and just a short distance from the centre of Durham...and the sense of seclusion is very real. You've got to try this place.
My father and I travelled to Durham to tour a nearby dairy farm, and this B&B was recommended by the farmers. Elisabeth was really accommodating on the phone and let us defer the decision of whether we wanted 1 or 2 rooms till we arrived and were able to see the rooms for ourselves (we ended up taking 2 rooms for extra "elbow room"). And since neither of us usually eats a morning meal, she let us forgo the usual included breakfast for a reduction in the rate. The house is set well back from the road on a large-sized lot, making for a surprisingly quiet and tranquil experience. I didn't hear a peep all night even with the bedroom window open! Good, supportive beds, clean bathrooms, lovely landscaped grounds, and friendly welcoming hosts. The water comes from a deep well and is of the highest quality without any chlorine or fluoride. Overall, this was one of our top B&B experiences and would recommend it highly.…
Beautiful people..especially the wonderful English cook! Catered to my dietary needs (gluten free, and vegetarian) with delicious homemade gluten free muffins, gluten free crepes with chocolate spread, organic whipped cream, raspberries, and maple syrup made locally. Two friendly cats, which snuggle up to you by the wood burning fireplace, looking out to a country view, with lots of trees.
As we were having a tough day cycling we decided to call it a day in Durham. Luckily we found a room at the Forest Edge. David made us feel very welcome in his lovely home outside of the town. He even lent us his car to drive to the local Chines Restaurant (Young's Garden, where the food was very good) for dinner. The breakfast of granola, fresh fruit, great scrambled eggs and good coffee set us up for another days cycle.
