Just a one night stay. Room was spotless and staff so kind and friendly. Asked for 'dog friendly room' and upon checking in, was offered breakfast in the bar area as opposed to dining room, so my dog could join me. Special sausage cooked for him too. Also great is the gate from the garden straight onto the Tissington Trail. Would recommend!

We had two separate stays. One in the self-catering converted stable rooms 3nts and and another in the main hotel 2nts both on a B&B basis as we could not find any other availability in the area. We were seeing aged family in nearby village. Very good breakfasts and friendly, helpful staff. The business seems to be going through hard times as it is in need of a thorough refresh. Perhaps Covid has not done it any favours. Earlier reviews mention new owners and perhaps they have not been able to invest as they would have liked in normal times. The rooms are tired and our bed mattresses and flat pillows in need of replacing. Cleaning is just about adequate in the main hotel but it has been a long time since the sofa in the self-catering room had been pulled out and cleaned behind. There was no central heating on in the self-catering rooms as it was out or order. There was a space heater but we had to ask for another as the main room and bedroom were separate. Perhaps we expected too much for the money? I hope the management will concentrate on doing up a small number of rooms and perhaps the dining room and get business going again with more favourable reviews as the area needs accommodation of this type.

We had booked 2 nights here as we were going to a wedding nearby. The first impression was that it looks a bit run down, shabby and dated from the outside which does not matter if the room is clean and comfortable bed. The only good points were comfortable bed, pleasant staff ( particularly the receptionist who had to deal with our complaint) and good breakfast. We arrived at our room to find that the carpet was covered in dirt , we assume from previous guests which they had bought in on their shoes. The carpet had obviously not been hoovered. We opened the ensuite door to the most awful smell. Complained to reception, no other rooms available for 2 nights. Had to take all of our luggage back downstairs whilst waiting for the owner to have the room recleaned. On return the carpet had been hoovered satisfactorily but the ensuite and room had been sprayed with one of those aerosols which I personally find disgusting. All this does is disguise the problem. Our immediate plan was to check out there and then, but finding alternative accommodation wasn’t possible so had no choice but to stay. We had to leave the window open to let fresh air in to combat the smells and the road was very noisy throughout the night with constant traffic noise - unfortunately the noise of the traffic then seriously disturbed our sleep. The room is quite cramped and could do with an upgrade. There is a knob missing off the wardrobe, a button dangling off a chair (so easy to repair), the light over the sink did not work, the water shower tray filled with water due to a drainage issue, the light above the sink and mirror didn’t work, the extractor fan didn’t seem able to draw out the steam so the mirror steamed up and took nearly 15 minutes to clear, the metal cover on toilet flush kept coming off. Furthermore the smell was still present in the room the following We decided we would not stay another night, checked out a day early and drove home after the wedding. We also understood the owner was on site but at no point did they make contact with us. We have subsequently sent an email to the hotel and requested a refund for the second night. 3 days after sending we have not even had an acknowledgement. In their details they state “Under new management, we take customer service seriously, and will do our very best to ensure you have an enjoyable, relaxing stay, and will want to return again & again.” Unfortunately we will not be returning again and would not recommend anyone else anyone else to stay at this hotel. Gave it 2 stars as staff were so nice otherwise would be 1 star

Excellent stayed over 12th to the 13th of this month with a wowcher gift we were brought last Christmas. We had originally planned to visit in late March but due to Covid we had to re-arrange our stay. They were brilliant with re-arranging and availability. On arrival we had a friendly welcome and were told the way to our room. Our room was clean and excellent, honestly the biggest bed ever. The bathroom was clean and after a day walking the warm shower was much needed! Breakfast was converted from a self serve buffet to table service and the lady serving us was very friendly and attentive. The breakfast was tasty and set us up for a second day of adventuring. We will definitely be returning and would recommend this! Thanks for our brilliant stay!

We had a Lovely Stay Thu and Fri nights in September and Ideal Location for Local Walks in the Peak District . Stayed 2 nights with breakfast included. We were given the honeymoon suite / four poster bed room. Great value - clean and comfortable with nice large bathroom, and the breakfast - buffet and table service was delicious. Quiet location and ideal for local walks.

We didn't stay at this property. We booked but cancelled the week before on booking.com. On the day we should of arrived we got a call off the owner who asked if we were still coming. My partner took the call and mistook it for the hotel we were already at and said we were there. Anyway she realised several minutes later it wasnt where we where it was who we had cancelled with. She phoned back and told the lady that we had cancelled on Booking.com. She then got the rudest lady saying it wasnt her fault that they hadn't got confirmation. We rang several time and had to both listen to this lady. Who wouldn't help us in anyway. Please if you stay there do at your peril. They have no customer service skill what so ever

As myself and my husband were dining in Baslow, we were wanting a cheap place to stay for the night. As we arrived later than we usually do (7pm) I believe we were charged an extra £3.40 for this??!! Room was clean and tidy although there was no lighting in the corridor so it wasn't easy to put the key in the door!! Breakfast was a buffet style which consisted of juice, cereals, pastries, muffins (not the cakes) yogurt and toast. And your only choice of a cooked breakfast was a full English.

We stayed here in Apartment 2 with our three dogs. It was clean, comfortable, reasonably priced and for the location, great value for money. It looks as though, from the photo's on Trip Advisor, that they are in the process of a lovely refurbishment throughout. There are areas which look a bit tired but others which look brand new. The staff are lovely, very friendly and welcoming. They'd had a lot of cancellations due to weather so we were the only people staying that night, however, every available choice was left for us for breakfast in the lovely dining room so we didn't feel like we given less of a service. As we were attending a family funeral, there was no issue at all for us leaving the dogs in the room for a few hours (not everywhere will allow this) and we really appreciated this. The back gate of the hotel leads right on to the Tissington trail, absolutely delightful location. We will definitely use this hotel again. We are both former hospitality professionals of many years standing and can clearly see that there has been a lot of effort and love put in here. Thanks for everything.

We visited this hotel for an overnight stay. We had been bought a voucher from Activity superstore by our daughter - a relaxing stay for two. Initially I tried to add on an extra night but was told they could only offer me the Friday and Saturday and I wanted Saturday and Sunday, this was fine as I would find alternative accommodation for the Sunday night. Nearer to the time of travel I searched for other properties for the Sunday and Newton House came up with lots of availability, therefore I booked the Sunday night as believed they must have had cancellations. On arrival we were told we could not stay on the Sunday night as it wouldn’t be open due to having workmen in, I had emailed prior to the visit checking it would be ok but never got a response ( I could never get through by phone either). The reception area was fine but the rest of the hotel was very poor and in need of lots of TLC. There was a smell of ‘ old people’s home and dogs everywhere. Our room was the most basic, thin mattress, flat pillows - not somewhere you would spend a relaxing break. We were woken during the night by a fire alarm and got very little sleep. Breakfast was so so, cooked breakfast small and served on a side plate. Walls of dining area where we were sat were dirty. I did complain to activity superstore and they contacted the hotel, they were told that we were aware we could not stay on the Sunday - untrue and that they also said we could stay but there wouldn’t be any evening meals - also untrue. They disagreed with all the points we put forward. I’m glad we couldn’t stay the 2nd night because we wouldn’t have stayed anyway. If you are going on a walking holiday and only need the very basics then this hotel might be ok for you. If your looking for a relaxing break, look elsewhere
