Our third stop on our Cape tour 2011 and after Lairds Lodge this place would have a benchmark to meet. Boy did it meet it!! A totally different type of accommodation but spectacular in its own way. We arrived at lunchtime to a welcoming drink after the road from hell. (N2 to Rippons-ouch) However a warm welcome from Brian and...

Brian and his team couldn't have done more to make us feel comfortable and happy during our stay. The room in the Long Barn was gorgeous, and as it was our honeymoon, we were offered very special touches which we'll never forget. We saw loads of game, elephants, lions, zebra, buffalo and both white and the extremely rare black rhino....

My wife and I stayed at Rippons Lodge for two nights in March 2011, our room in the Long Barn was very spacious and comfortable, nicely decorated and we had a terrace which led out onto a swimming pool of good size. All members of staff at Rippons were so helpful and friendly that we cannot praise them highly enough. On...

We were not sure when entering Rippons what the setup with Shamwari was, but soon had it explained that Rippons is a fairly new reserve but belongs to the same company that owns Shamwari. There is an electric fence that separates the 2 reserves until the right balance of animals is obtained, but the game drives DO go into Shamwari....

Like all previous reviews we were enthralled by Rippons. Elaine and Rosalind took care of us splendidly.Chris our ranger guide was a wealth of knowledge which he imparted with great enthusiasm. Through his knowledge we saw so many of Shamwari's animals so close up. Alas the lions eluded us. The accommodation in the old vets surgery was great and kept...

Beautiful room [long barn], lovely settings and grounds, staff excellent [easpecially staff choir - brill!]. Game drive great fun and ranger very informative - not much time left with over 7 hours a day 'on the hunt'. Food good, but maybe not match high standards of all other areas. Loved it!

We had travelled the well-worn rout of Capetown - Garden route - Shamwari, over a period of 2 weeks, and every day got better. Arriving at Rippon's just in time to jump on the 4pm safari should have finished us off after a days travelling, but it did just the opposite ! We had a very able guide in Francis. Friendly,...

This was an all round excellent stay. In spite of wet and windy weather ( very unusual apparently!) on our first 2 game drives, we saw elephants, giraffes, lions and rhinos to name but a few. Our ranger was very knowledgeable and approachable and worked hard to make sure we saw as much as possible. Food was excellent, accommodation very...

Rippons is near Shamwari - an excellent location for seeing game. The rangers seem to have a knack of finding the animals almost to order. There are 2 bumpy game drives a day - one before breakfast & one before dinner. In 3 days we had seen everything we wanted, but if it rains, you tend to see less. You...

Reading the recent reviews I don't have much more to add - super staff, fantastic early morning and evening drives, ample tempting food, inexpensive drinks and a wonderful location. It's not a "hotel" in the usual meaning but a home from home with fantastic perks. One of these was the impromptu concert by the staff "choir"! We must go back...

“Choose the long barn...patio area is a sun trap...room looks out over the valley and watering hole...rooms are massive with the biggest bathroom I've ever seen!”

“All 3 room types are very spacious and modern. The long barn is good for couples and it overlooks the pool and valley. There are 2 annexe rooms which are the size of cottages inside which would be perfect for families or a group of friends.”

“Couples should ask for a room in the Long Barn as no children allowed. Rooms in the house are 2 floor suites ideal for families or several couples travelling together. The Old Vet building has around 5 smaller suites but still much larger than an average European Hotel, and have seperate bunk bed room for children”
