Nice place, very friendly and helpful service in the reception. Slightly outdated cabin from the outside, but clean and cosy inside. The cabin was airy with high ceiling and big windows. It was also surprisingly nice and cool on a hot summer day. The stove in the kitchenette was very slow, but everything worked. The stairs were very steep, and the bedrooms were both upstairs. It was ok for two adults and a dog, but I would not recommed the place for families with small children or for the elderly.

I stayed at Santa's Chalets Rakka for four days on the second week of August. I have visited Kilpisjärvi many times, but I had never before stayed at Santa's Chalets Rakka. It was a nice experience from the beginning with a warm welcome by the receptionists and their lovely dogs. I was given tips of what to do and see. The apartment was very neat and since I was travelling with my dogs only, I had plenty of space in the three bedroom accommodation. Kitchen was equipped well enough, but I ended up eating out quite a lot. Sauna was nice and spacious enough and the bathroom clean and neat. For internet there's free wifi. My apartment had a nice fireplace but since the weather was VERY warm, I didn't use it. Crocery's, restaurants, gas station, etc were right next to the chalets. I also had a nice and spacious terrace with table and chairs. If I came here during the Autumn season or for skiing, I would like the apartments to have a clothes dryer. It would also be nice if bed linen and firewood were included in the prize. I enjoyed my stay very much. Thank you.

This accommodation can easily deceive you by the modern look from outside. The reality is this is not too functional by many standards. The good thing about it is the high living room with a lot of light coming in. The location is also good and finally, the reception staff is very friendly. The negative: 1. Too steep stairs leading to the bedrooms. Those stairs can be a challenge even for younger people let alone seniors or people with limited mobility. 2. Beds are very uncomfortable 3. Furniture is mostly IKEA and very low quality 4. Sheets and pillows not included in the price. Why not have general pricing where this is included too? 5. We were asked to get rid of our trash, cans, etc. ourselves.

Santa's Cabins is a good stopping off point in transit to/from Norway. If slightly pricy, it's still cheaper than comparable places on the other side of the border. From the outside, the whole complex is very strangely constructed. The units are large but crowded together, and the unusual architecture just didn't work for me – instead of blending into a pristine wilderness it looks more like family quarters in a military barracks. Although it looks to be at most 10 years old, some of the external construction is decaying, especially the balconies, terraces and access stairs to the complex, all of which are long in need of a fresh coat of wood stain or paint, and renewal of loose planks. Inside, the fittings and furnishings all seem a bit dated and/or well worn, as if they were all acquired from a gigantic fire sale. There are two kinds of apartments, A and B. I stayed in a B-type unit and can only comment on that. It was huge, with a large open living-room room area, but there was a mismatch between the number of sleeping places (for 8, in 3 bedrooms plus an open alcove, even without the sofa) and the other facilities. Only one toilet and one shower for eight persons is obviously inadequate, and the dining table had places only for 5. Pillows and duvets were also insufficient for the number of beds. Bedlinen costs extra so I brought my own, but for a family on vacation this might be a bit burdensome, and for the prices charged should definitely be included. The TV offered no international or premium channels, but the cabins did have wifi. The cabins are adjacent to a well stocked supermarket, which means that self-catering is convenient. Overall, the place was fine for me as a solo traveller, but needs a bit of rethinking for larger parties.
