Staff were not helpful. We were delayed through no fault of our own (our flight from London to rovaneimi). We let the staff know in advance that we will arrive late but they still went home and didn't wait for us to arrive. When we arrived at around midnight the hotel was closed and locked we almost had to spend the night in -30 degrees in the car! As hotel staff went home leaving the key in the igloo which we couldn't find in the dark in the woods!I ended up googling other hotels in the town but there aren't any apart from a campsite which I found the number for and a nice lady from the campsite 2 miles down the road managed to help us. Very disappointing when you spend 250euros for a nights stay which we spent around 6 hours in! When I complained in the morning the staff acted…
Hotel was built in the 80's but has been refurbished to some extend. Rooms are tidy and clean. Hotel staff is friendly and helpful. We had tasty reindeer stew for lunch. Breakfast is included into room price. Free use of sauna located at the ground floor, no pool. If you are looking for mid priced hotel with good service this is a good choice. Do not expect five star facilities, though! Note: package including tickets to Ranua Zoo is good value for money.
The igloo is nice - though a bit tacky and run down in places. The sauna and fireplace are great, but the location is not. You can literally see the local bus station and main grocery shop from the windows (just) and privacy is a bit limited. With the price we paid for this place, I did expect a bit more. Also, please be warned that extra charge (eur 50 per night I think?) will be taken for using "extra" beds that are in the room anyhow. Quite dodgy I think. Glass igloo was something we wanted to try and it was okay for one night -- but I wont be doing it again.
We stayed two nights at the end our Lapland trip here in this amazing Igloo. This place is located an hour from Rovaniemi airport. This accommodation is made out of big glass windows combined with wooden sauna and also fireplace. What a great idea, the bedroom is really fitted for Aurora Spotting, but during our stay we were not fortunate to see them. We also went to see the Wild Life Zoo, totally recommend
We decided to stay here because they had deals with the zoo. We couldn't book online so my partner ( who is Finnish ) called to try and arrange things for us. She called twice 4 months in advance, and got off the phone saying that she wasn't confident that it would be booked. Anyway we arrived on the day we had booked and sure enough they had no record of us coming. It wasn't a problem though as they had lots of rooms. The rooms were nice and clean and the 4 of us fitted in ok. We were told by the person on reception that the dinner service finished at 5pm so we arrived at 4:30 to be told that lunch had finished and that dinner didn't start until 6pm. So we went for a walk across the road the supermarket and got some snacks. The same person in reception told us that breakfast…
I stayed with my husband and 2 sons (aged 9 and 11) at the glass igloo for three nights. We found it very well designed, comfortable and very well warming. We loved to wake up in the view of snowy trees; listening to music by the side of the fireplace. The kids loved to play with the sled in the snow and giggling in the sauna. All the staff was so smiling and hospitable. I strongly recommend the glass igloo to those who plan to have a vacation in Lapland. It has also got the advantage of being just 3 km away from the Wild Life Safari Center.
A small traditional Finnish hotel with nice home-cooking (vegetarian options weren't too great but that's the case in most of Finland). The half-board/full-board and Ranua zoo packages are good value for money and the staff are all very friendly. We stayed there for two nights, including new year's eve when there was a live band and dancing in the restaurant. A good location with a supermarket and a couple of shops/restaurants just across the street and a short drive to the zoo. Lounge with nice decor, newspapers, pool table and a small gift shop. A playroom for kids downstairs, which was otherwise great but very dark, no window and insufficient lighting. Snow sleds available to lend. Our family room was in an annex at the backyard. It was really spacious and clean. Grandfather…
We booked a family package which included a double room with two extra beds and family ticket to Ranua Zoo. The room was quite small and simple but it was good enough for one night. We arrived late in the evening and the reception was warm and welcoming. For kids, there was trampoline outside and a nice playroom. There was some snacks, sandwiches and juices in the bar. The breakfast buffet was quite simple but everyone found something they liked. From Ilveslinna there was only a short drive to Ranua Zoo.
Its a simple place, not fancy in any way. The rooms are small but clean. The staff didnt speak swedish or english but we managed to understand eachother. We were there in july and they had a trampolin outside the restaurant for the kids, wich was popular. The breakfast buffe was not that good, we just had some yoghurt and sandwiches, but thats ok. . The coffea was really good we think ;o)
We stayed at the Hotel Ilveslinna in January 2011, for the purpose of visiting the Ranua Zoo. We booked it hotel online, no issues with response time. We made use of their special offer of 125 Euro for a family (2 adults, 2 children) which also includes free entry to the Ranua Zoo, buffet breakfast and evening sauna. The Zoo entry alone for a family is normally 42 Euro, so we felt this was excellent value for money. (If you make use of the Ranua Zoo special, you must check in at the hotel first in order to get your free voucher.) The family room was simply a double room with spare bedding on the floor. Very cosy with not much room to move around, but quite OK for a short visit where you spend minimal time in the room anyway. We arrived early at 10 am, and the reception staff…
