In Resort Sahanlahti you spend a lovely holiday, sleep well, enjoy the local delicates and relax in beautiful surroundings. Sahanlahti is situated in the heart of the Saimaa lake district, eight kilometres from the village of Puumala. One of the oldest sawmills in the Saimaa region used to be located here. The last sawmill was closed in 1936, but life in Sahanlahti very much continues.

Detailed Reviews
Sahanlahti resort offers excellent accommodation alternatives, we (two couples) took this time a suite for 4 persons with sauna. Great choice, use own sauna and then to lake that is very close to apartment. Breakfast was excellent, as well dinner in the old boat shed. Bonus point goes to Mikko, super social cat.

My second time at Sahanlahti resort. Rooms are very basic but functional. I really liked the food and friendly service. Sahanlahti offers also good facilities for meetings for small teams. I really enjoyed the dinner at the old log house by the main building. (I am not sure if it is always open).

We booked a double room originally for four nights to spend some relaxing time in this place. Already during the first night we discovered that the hotel rooms (most probably not the cabins) are quite noisy as you can hear nearly everything from the rooms next door and above. Also during the week the restaurant closes already at 8 pm - so either early drinks and back to your room or drive to Puumala and then later drinks from minibar. Breakfast time though is very comfortable (til 11 am) and the terrace is gorgeous. Breakfast menu is okayish - and it took me some time to find out that you can also order special coffee and tea for free and that you are not restricted to the coffee on the hot plate. One advantage is a hiking route close by which is about 22 km through forest and most probably some waters (we did not do the full round). Bike rental is available, but not for free. If you want to stay several nights and need food, order from the small menu. It is in Finnish only, but staff will help to translate.

The food ingredients had great potential but unfortunately poor cooking and service ruined the experience. Food was cold and overcooked and there were no waiters so eventually the cook brought our food. Such a shame because the view is lovely and place very cozy.

Rantamakasiini;
Pizza is size of appetizer, if you are hungry this is too small..
Muikut so salty, that not possible to eat. Send it once back, but same result - not eatable!
Drinks are fine and personel ok.
Scenery fine, near the water lake Saimaa.

A former sawmill from the end of 18th century, this place has offered accomodation services in about 30 years with a two year break a couple of years ago, when the place was renovated. You'll find a beautiful place at the northern end of Koskenselkä, part of the biggest lake of Finland, lake Saimaa. You can choose between a lakeside hotel with 9 double rooms and a suite or 5 villas 2 of which with an own sauna or one of the three granary accomodations without private WC or shower. Whichever your choice, you'll find a friendly and rustic atmosphere in very beautiful surroundings. They even have an excellent restaurant.

Although living near Aberdeen we have a summer house near Puumala and are there for all too short a time in the summer and when we can in the winter, for more than twenty years-
It was great this year to be told that Sahanlahti had new owners- so we tooik guests from scotland went by boat on a magic summer day- well worth the visit- The best food in the area, local and excellent service- one of those meals- Finnish country food at it's best- simple, good and excellent value.
And the views fropm the terrace- WoW
Please support the new owners- driving past many times, there were many cars there- so let's do all we can to help the new owners make a success. They deserve it and we all need them!

All we can say is Wow- Our first visit under the new owners was in July 2014.
The second just a week ago was for Sunday brunch on a gorgeous sunny day-
What a buffet- way superior to so many- the restaurant was very busy- service was excellent. So good to hear a local couple saying it was their third visit in recent weeks- making up for the times they did not visit under the last owners!
We know from living in the Scottish Highlands it is not easy to run a very good hotel and restaurant- short season and few in the deep winter. Wonderful imaginative menu with local ingredients and always fresh buffet- We don't stay as we've a summer place the other side of Puumala- but if you are anywhere near- Sahanlahti is so worth a visit.

Awesome food, wonderful view! Very beautiful old buildings :) Restaurant is peaceful, possibility to eat outside and watch lake. Clean toilets, friendly service. I can definitely recommend this resort and hope that people find it. There also was a friendly cat :)

Very beautiful area around and inside the resort, optional good private sauna(but, sauna's opening hours are very limited, and it kinda disappointing), private beach next to the lake, standard breakfast. i think this place is more suitable for families. The room was clean and bed ok. One thing that really bother, there are some cats at the resort (which is o.k) but it entered to the dinning room at breakfast and jumped around, i think that this area should be more sterilized...
