What a fantastic time! Kev and Marissa the owners of Stray Possum lodge made our stay enjoyable and filled with lots of fun, fishing and some absolutely delicious sea food. We flew in from Melbourne to Auckland and was stuck due to the heavy rains which prevented us from getting the ferry on our first week. It was all well...

After sitting in Auckland for five days in the heavy storms with 30+ knot winds waiting to get to Great Barrier Island. It was great to get back there again, the sun was out, 25+deg, 10knot winds. On my arrival I was greeted by the owner of Stray Possum Lodge (Kevin Watson) with a great smile on his face he...

We booked a special deal with Stray Possum Lodge, staying for three days in a cottage, flight to and from Ardmore, three days car rental, one three course meal and one cook breakfast for a very reasonable price. The two lovely German shepherd dogs were impressive to look at but very friendly and welcoming. Marissa was an excellent host and...

Kev and Marissa and whanau especially Mia with her welcome, made us feel part of the family. Nothing was too much trouble :-) If you need transport, food, entertainment, beers, always available. Plus a wealth of knowledge on where to go on the island for differing pass-times. If you want somewhere stunning to sit and chill you won't get a...

Very dirty place. Unchanged sheets and cramped accomodation. Not good value for money. The family next to our room left in a day and went somewhere else. We stayed for two nights.the backpackers kitchen was basic.Sheets should be changed. Two out of the three if us had unfresh beds to sleep on.

Just back from four days stay in a chalet nestled in the native bush at Stray Possum Lodge. Our party of teens and parents found it a quiet and peaceful sanctuary to come back to after exploring the island. Loved the authentic backpacker style accommodation and also a central point to lots of local walks, bays, shops in southern part...

My partner and i went here for dinner as nothing else was available but when we showed up we were 'greeted' by the manager who was a grumpy women who could barely drag herself away from her beer to take our order. We both ordered a burger and chips - the burger was half cold and the chips were completely...

Firstly the bar and restaurant were closed and non functioning, the showers were not clean and the water was so slow with no pressure you would be better washing in the ocean. As for hot water, well once again this was lacking. Rooms were ok if a little stuffy and musty smelling. Worst of all would have to be the...

“The chalets look alot nicer if your looking for something like that. We stayed in the back packer dorms which were basic, just some bunks in a room, but that did us fine as we were there for fishing, not to be pampered.”
