We are a famiily with two kids (4 and 7). We spent one night in a tent. We liked this place.
Kai (the owner) is very sympathic, helpful. Thank you again Kai !
The tent is perfect, with warm sleeping bags for the night.
The location is also great , close to the national park. Kids can play football outside, there are hammocks.. with a lovely summer kitchen. You have everything you need. You can even play music with drums, guitars..
One of our favorite place of our road trip in Finland.

After a warm welcome, I immediately felt at home. The peace and quiet in this place allowed me to sleep well at night, and in the mornings I woke up listening to many different bird songs. Kai surprised me with his delicious food, the memorable canoe trips and his stories from all over the world. Thank you Kai for all the great impressions!

We arrived at Nuuksio Hostel interested to see wild Finland, Kai was very welcoming and was cooking up a storm for us within minutes of arriving, it was a very cool place and a welcome change from the European cities we had been to visit previously, we drunk beer in his own beer hall and shared stories around the camp fire before Kai got his guitar out to provide some live music. Kai supplied all the sleeping equipment which was all new and quite comfortable, we slept in a massive tent on camp beds which were off the ground. kai also runs Kaikuva adventure tours with loads of activities,The first day we got up earlyish and drove to one of Kai's favorite lakes where we spent the day canoeing, fishing and swimming in the crystal clear water, JUST BEAUTIFUL! This is what we came to Finland for, An amazing day. Other activities included archery, mountain biking and a very successful wild mushroom hunt, delicious! Unfortunately we had to move on after only 3 days which didn't seem long enough, great value and strongly recommended for the outdoor nature type.

It was last July that my boyfriend and I stayed a couple of nights at Kai's beautiful campground. He made us immediately feel more like being friends visiting than mere camping guests. Even though our booking was quite spontaneous it wasn't a problem at all and he even picked us up from the bus stop to transport us and our luggage to his place. There was only one other couple staying at the same time as we did. In the mornings we enjoyed a healthy breakfast all together in the garden before heading off into the National Park individually. Kai's knowledge of the Park and Finlands nature is profound so that he gave us heaps of information, tips and advice for what we liked to see and do and provided us with compass and map for our trips. Our hikes through Nuuksio National Park - taking in the breathtaking forest-lake-scenery, picking mushrooms, fishing, taking refreshing dips in forest lakes as well as fleeing from vicious ants and mosquitoes - are still very fond in our memory. In the evenings, there were homemade dinners in the cozy wooden cabin heated up nicely by the sparkling fire in its centre. Our mushrooms and fish-catch that we brought home from one trip we prepared together with Kai in his kitchen. When we had to say goodbye it was clear that there was soo much more to do and see in this place and we definitely had to come back one day again.

Myself and two friends spent a weekend at Nuuksio Hostel with the intention of seeing what the nature of Finland had to offer. We were not disappointed.
After a warm welcome from Kai and a lift from the bus stop to the hostel, we got settled and set out on a quick walk through the forest.
The following morning we awoke to a delicious and filling Finish breakfast provided by Kai.
After we had our feed and a quick introduction to orienteering my friends and I set out on a day trip through the National Park.
We spent the day trekking through the Park taking in the beautiful surroundings and stopping off at one of the many lakes for a quick swim.
Upon our return, we used Kais fantastic facilities to cook our food on an open fire and relax with a few drinks by the fire.
When it was (unfortunately) time to leave, Kai dropped us to the bus stop where we exchanged our farewells.
The weekend spent at Nuuksio Hostel was like nothing we’ve experienced before.
We highly recommend staying here where Kai will make you feel most welcome and go the extra mile to provide what he can for you.

If you are looking for a rustic experience at the heart of Finnish nature then this is definitely the right choice.

My partner and I stayed with Kai for 2 nights over the last weekend in August. From the moment we met to a regretful goodbye hug, Kai was the perfect host to us. It is rare to find such genuine warmth and generosity in so many hostels or tourist accommodation, so I would say Nuuksio Hostel & Camping is a gem definitely not to be missed.

It is just a 40minute, cheap, bus ride from Helsinki - based at the very edge of Nuuksio National Park. You can hike from here for as short or long as you want, explore the local area, relax in Kai's unique garden, or choose from activities such as canoeing or guided hikes. We chose a 3 hour canoeing trip for the Sunday where Kai took us to some of his favourite lakes in the area - some beautiful spots and amazing scenery, along with some wild mushroom hunting. A highlight of our trip for sure!

Kai also recommended some nearby lakes to pass by during different hiking options for the afternoon. He supplied an excellent map and compass and we were on our way. There were so many lakes to choose from but once we took the plunge for a refreshing swim - definitely another highlight.

We chose to stay in the tent instead of the indoor hostel, for a more real camping outdoors experience. Again I would recommend this as we were supplied decent sleeping bags and campbeds which were plenty comfy enough for a good nights sleep, and the tent more than big enough for the two of us.

Having not investigated other accommodation options I admit I have nothing to compare this hostel to. However I am positive you can be assured staying with Kai will bring you something far more than your average 'bed for the night'. Nothing was too much trouble for Kai, but he was also considerate of your own privacy. Along with some entertainment in the form of his guitar on Sunday night, Kai also fed us some tastey meals and set us up for the day with hearty breakfasts, which is exactly what you need!
Overall Kai was an extremely welcoming and easy-going host, with many stories to tell and a genuine interest in his guests. I would say that this is your ideal base to explore the national park and relax in a stress-free, environment.

Today I went on a trip through the wet woods near Kaislampi, Nuuksio, with a group of pensioners. Kai told us interesting tales on the way while giving us time for a short break, and gave us a choice of routes, according to our fitness. At the end of the hike, he welcomed us to his cottage and served hot coffee, home-made deer and vegetable soup, pancakes with jam and cream. We all felt very satisfied and happy. Thank you, Kai :-)

We had a wonderful stay nearby the Nuuksio National Park. Kai, the amazingly friendly host, gave us some useful advice about the hiking trails, navigation and fishing. He also provided us with the necessary equipment. We slept in Kai's house. In the evenings we enjoyed some nice dinners in a cosy atmosphere. We think it's really nice to stay with local people to have an authentic Finnish experience. Kai is a very experienced nature guide, a good narrator and above all he has a warm personality! Strongly recommended.

Wanting to explore the nature of Finland, this was an ideal location which is also conveniently located just 40 minutes from Helsinki. Kai was extremely helpful from the beginning, picking us up from the bus stop and providing us with all the knowledge we asked for and more. The hostel was a welcome change from the hustle and bustle of the city and offered us a more personable experience compared to other hostels we had stayed in. Kai provided us with a great map and we enjoyed many walks and swims in the beautiful forest surrounding. His breakfasts were yummy and set us up for the day very well! We were given plenty of tea and coffee, and whenever we wanted something, Kai was quick to help us out! The proper camping experience was great, the solar outdoor shower provided a beautiful morning rinse and cooking on the open fire was definitely a fun and rewarding challenge! We highly recommend staying here and are planning to come back soon!

Hi Lily, to stay in tent is possible but in April it is not that comfortable if you have´nt use to it. Here may be minus 10 degree celsius at night. Anyway my sleeping bags are warm enough to survive . To hike and exploring the nature is possible as well lake swimming and sauna. I have wooden heated sauna here but not the lake. So you have to go public sauna near by if it is open during your stay. Sauna and lake is possible naturally in any time but it cost more. kai@kaikuva.fi Best Regards ! Kai

Hello Cassie, thx for your interest:) I have two rooms i rent inside my house. One room with two separated bed and the other one is with double bed. They cost 40€ / person / night + sheets 10€ if you do not have your own with you. If you want to have the hole room only for you self please ask the price. Shower inside is included once a day but outside the solar heated shower is free as much you like - i use it daily and its awesome :) Outside i have tents with 4 beds and they cost 20€/ night / person. I rent also sleeping bags for 15€ / person and they are warm enough till -15 degree! All the tents are with mosquito nets. You can also take your own tent with you but it cost the same 20€ / person / night. My tents are large tents for winter time as well but then they have stove heated - ask price! Its something special experience specially if it is like -25 degree outside. Inside the tent you can wear t-shird and you feel warm ! Its also possible to rent a little tent only for you alone with the same price. All the overnights are breakfast included. Extras:nature guide to the forest for 50€ / 3-4 hours or borrow the map and compass for free and go alone. Blueberries and Mushrooms are now available! Wooden heated Sauna 50€ / group for two hours. Little fire wood is included but if you want to get feelings for hours with open fire it cost 10-20€ extra. Washing machine 10€. Canoeing trip to the lakes of national park cost 75€ for one person; 60€ /per/ 2 person; 50€ / person 3 person; 45 € / person for 4 or more. It takes time about 5 hours. Fishing with hook and line or winter fishing 10€ / person. Something more: Local bus from the airport takes 45min and it cost less than 8€. It is easy! I can send you the detailed information about that. I can pick you up from the airport as well but it cost about 80€ / car for 4 people. Swimming in the wild lake is about 15min walk. Local swimming lake is about 15 min walk to the other lake near by. You can also ask the food ( lunch and dinner) it cost 10-30€ / person . It depends the food you want to. These prices are only for the guest of Nuuksio Hostel and Camping! Winter time we have a lot of exotic opportunities - please ask! I take care about you - its promise! You are Welcome!
