Finse 1222 was built in 1909 as part of the Bergen Railway and has since been the gateway to some of Norway's most beautiful and accessible mountain areas. The Hallingskarvet National Park borders to Finse and across the lake Finsevann the mighty Hardangerjokulen glacier rises. Finse 1222 is a family owned hotel run by young and serviceminded people. Allthough the premises are old and some places worn by more than 100 years of service, focus is on providing a hospitable and keen service as well as very good food. The hotel offers bike rental and ski rental. Rooms are basic - we recommend the outdoors!

Out in the wilds at the highest point on the Oslo - Bergen railway, this hotel is clearly catering for the outdoor enthusiast and does it very well. Inevitably, it is not a destination for those seeking the height of luxury - the rooms are basically furnished and decorated,

My wife and I and another couple stopped here for one night on our “Norway in a Nutshell” Tour rather than continuing on to Oslo and arriving late in the evening. While I am sure that the early wet snow and cold temperatures did not help things, as seniors I felt that this was

My family booked our transportation through Norway in a Nutshell but took it very slowly from Bergen to Oslo. We spent 3 nights at Finse 1222 and it was a fabulous experience! Sure, the weather was not cooperating most of the time (we did the glacier hike in constant rain!), but

Dear Bernice, Thank you so much for your generous words. It is quite an operation to run a hotel up here at 1222 meters above sea level. Among others we only have delivery once a week with the train. If we miss milk and butter, we cannot just run down to the grocery store:-) We work hard in trying to meet the diversity of guests and therefore it is heartwarming knowing you had such a good experience both inside our hotel and outside in the beautiful surroundings. Welcome back! From all of us at Finse 1222

This was a great experience. Yes it is expensive but you are paying for a unique experience. I personally thought it was worth treating myself. Staff are really wonderful. The food was fabulous! I loved being able to pack lunch at breakfast time. As a solo traveler it would have
