It was our less favorite lodge during our trip to Tanzania. They are so Dutch. You really do not feel welcome. Our impression is very negative. We also do not understand how they are able to get such good reviews. It is old fashioned, poor maintenance, food simply to easy and no hospitality. One of the poor things we exercised,...

Dear Hans, Thank you for reviewing Rhotia Valley Lodge. For what concerns the water in the tents, we work with solar heaters and it takes a few minutes for the hot water to reach the shower from the tank. That is why we ask guests to collect (and save) the cold water that comes before. Guests are free to use...

This small tented lodge located about an hour from Tarangire was a great place to stay when we were traveling to Serengeti. It is in a beautiful setting on a hillside with great views. It is a relatively small and homey place and was conducive to meeting other guests and sharing travel stories over a drink before dinner. The food...

Stayed here for two nights during a 3-day safari. We had a fantastic time at the tented lodge. The views are amazing from the tents and from the lodge porch. The hot water bottle tucked in the sheets was a welcomed surprise. The staff was very friendly. Two of the workers even joined our evening sing-a-long by the fire to...

We were greeted upon arrival by Evelyn who made us feel extremely welcome. Hot washcloths and cold drinks were next. The view is outstanding and the lodge was filled with great personnel. Each night we sat either on the deck (with pots of hot coals to keep you warm) or in the lounge by the fire and a friendly atmosphere...

During our safari we stayed in Rhotia Valley for 2 nights and we really enjoyed our stay. Its well situated and the tented lodges (actually you don't actually realize they are tents) are very nice and comfortable. The views are stunning and we would really recommend anyone visiting Ngorongoro Crater to spend the evenings and nights here. The staff is...

Its quite a long bumpy road to the top, but sooo worth the experience. This lodge is a bit out of the way when viewing game in Ngorogoro or Serengeti but well worth it. The rooms all have amazing views of the country side! The chef is experienced and all food is grown in their garden and tasted wonderful. Home...

This lodge is amazing! The facilities are well taken care of, staff are very friendly and lodges are well equipped. We stayed here a few nights during our 10 day safari and would highly recommend it to anyone travelling through, or visiting Ngorongoro Crater. The tented lodges are very clean, private and each has a great balcony with wonderful views....

Just here from 1 night on our way to Ngorogoro and Serengeti but what a night it was. We had developed a theory by the stage in our trip that the worse the road leading up to it, the better the hotel and it certainly applies to this place. The road is like a 4WD track but once you get...

I do not even know where to start! We had very high expectations for this place and did not expect them to be surpassed quite so effortlessly. We mainly went for the rhotia valley project and children's home aspect but the lodge was breathtaking. Pure safari style luxury. The staff we very friendly and welcoming. The tents were spacious, clean...

Great atmosphere! Perfect place to chill out after a long safari. Characteristics of the place: personal welcome, stunning views, excellent food, ice cold beer, a pool, 'Dutch warm kruik' in bed (at nights it can be cold up the mountain), high quality rooms, above all its a sustainable non-profit organisation; profits goes to children home across the hill. The place...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Quietly tucked away on the top of a hill in rural Africa and, at the same time, located in the very heart of the Northern Tanzania safari circuit Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge breathes the atmosphere of true Africa. The lodge is built with indigenous hardwood and in traditional African style. It is in complete harmony with its surroundings. Yet, its spacious set up, personal and friendly service and its finishing touches, such as cozy sofas around the fireplace and warm decorative details, provide a perfectly balanced luxury. With only fifteen individual tents, Rhotia Valley has an intimate charm. Each of the comfortable tented houses has its own veranda with splendid view. The bathrooms are provided with hot and cold running water, shower and flush toilet. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served in our open dining area. Most of the vegetables and all the herbs are grown in our own garden. Daily we bake fresh bread in our Bakery. Moreover, we produce butter from the milk produced by our own cows. Facilities: - Swimming pool with panoramic view. - Wifi is available in the common dining area. - Conference Room fully equipped with beamer and flipchart. Rhotia Valley is more than a lodge. It is completed embedded in the community of Rhotia. Rhotia Valley consists of the Tented Lodge and, on the opposite hill, a CHILDREN'S HOME. Its aim is to give support to the people of the Rhotia area, all the staff and the children in the Home are from the local area. TWO HILLS, ONE GOAL! ... more   less
