Hotel was booked through booking.com, and was a confirmed booking, we arrived at 6pm to find the hotel empty and locked, hotel phone number went to answer phone. Not ideal, especially for a hotel right in the middle in nowhere.

We stayed at another guesthouse ~9km up the road but did not get their email informing us that there were no restaurants/food near by. We checked in about 8pm and everything was closed including the gas station but luckily had some leftovers we could eat for dinner. Our next worry was breakfast. Hotel skulagardur was our savior! Welcomed us right...

We stayed one night before heading off to whale watch. The rooms were clean and comfortable and we had a great view. The 'wet room' bathroom was an excellent idea, and the translucent sliding glass walls made the space feel larger. Great lasagne dinner, typical breakfast replenished regularity.

I stayed in this hotel in August for one night. There were lovely views. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The breakfast was nice, the usual fare, but with lovely hot fresh bread! Nice comfortable beds and own bathroom/toilet which was a treat!

A practical establishment well located as a base for the area which is beautiful. It is pretty expensive for both food and lodging for what you get. My dinner of arctic char was good. The breakfast was simple and it seemed they provided the lower cost items such as margarine and processed meat. Most other places I have stayed at...

I recently stayed at this hotel when driving around Iceland. The location was perfect, quiet and near our route, with a nice view. Nice and clean rooms, we didn't try the restaurant unfortunately as it was already closed. Our ensuite bathroom door was made of glass and left a little gap when closed.

Driving from the South, we hit this hotel which is supposed to be connected to a farm. As in many other places in Iceland, the dining room includes a theater; well, people may not have fun everyday in this area... But fine if you arrive late in the evening: bring your own food (avoid the "restaurant", expensive for junk food),...

I am having the same experience as Claudia T. We too elected sleeping bag accommodation which is adequate. Rooms are clean. Bed was not entirely comfortable. It looks like a temporary barracks outside and in. There is a large group here that completely took over the kitchen forcing us into an expensive but not inspiring dinner at the main house....

Of all the accommodation we stayed in during a two-week group tour around Iceland, this was probably my favourite hotel/guesthouse. It is located at a remote spot in the north-eastern countryside, miles from any population centre. It made the perfect venue, in late June, for watching (and photographing) the sun hovering around the horizon at midnight and in the following...

“Ask for a room away from the kitchen. We were allocated rooms at the end of the corridor furthest from the kitchen and the room doors have good seals that help to reduce the noise.”
