This was the only hotel we stayed at during our tour of South Africa which did not have air conditioning which was a disappointment. Having said that, the evening meal and breakfast was excellent. The gardens and pool were lovely

We chose Riversdale in order to split the journey between Cape Town and Plettenberg Bay. It was a wise decision. Whatever the relative merits of, say, Swellendam, Riversdale does offer De Doornkraal. Spread comfortably over several adjoining "houses" at the edge of town, it offers well equipped rooms at a most reasonable price and there is no need whatsoever to...

In previous reviews I have discussed the merits or otherwise of the terms 'luxury' and 'four star'. This is the first 'historic' establishment we came across. The town of Riversdale does not, on the face of it,have a lot going for it, but it is a convenient staging post along the Garden Route. Our first impression of the town was...

The hotel is old fashioned but very nice the service from the staff was friendly and excellent. the food was unbelievably excellent for dinner. the hotel gardens were pleasant to sit in and have a refreshment. Only thing against it some of the rooms are accessed from the road and would be better closed off and accessed from the gardens.

In the midst of a camper van holiday along the coast and to the Eastern Cape our gearbox voted emphatically and terminally that we should stop at De Doornkraal. It's nice that it did The hotel sits on the edge of the town but in terms of look and charm seems a world away from the scruffy town centre Walled...

A super retreat from the hustle and bustle of modern living , this country House Hotel lives up to its name. We were served a hearty breakfast after consuming a gourmet dinner the night before, the bedrooms were relatively comfortable and the owner and staff very helpful and charming. 'Very good value and a definite stopover when next we visit...

My husband and I stayed here for one night en route to Cape Town, and as always had a lovely stay. The room was lovely with a large bathroom and king size bed. The pool area was very welcome as was the Aunt Vette wine to cool down. The hotel automatically reserves a table for all guests for dinner -...

De Doornkraal is a beautifully restored hotel in Riversdale and well worth a visit. A pity that the majority of people would just drive through Riversdale and not know it is tucked away in town. The rooms are large and comfortable and I had a lovely dinner paired with their own wines that are produced on the property. Well worth...

OMW! What a way to dine. Dinner was served after a long day of running up and down Riversdale. We sat down to the best plate of food in a long time. One would'nt think that this tiny little town would serve such a splendid food - not to mention the wine. We indulged like Kings & Queens thanks to...

We have been regulars here for the past 4 years. Chris ( " cool bananas ") has only just left and the place is falling apart ! Nothing available on the menu for dinner. No greek yoghurt at breakfast. Cleaning staff employed as waiters in the evening Not looking good for De Doonkraal
