Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I have been to Hotel Sommelo again, this is my third time. The hotel is very convenient if you visit Kouvola or Kuusankoski. It is only a short distance from Kouvola, but the hotels in Kouvola is much more expensive. Sommelo is rather modest, but the room was nice and the staff friendly. The breakfast is OK! The reception is closed at the evenings, so you need a door code to come in.

Very basic hotel at Kuusankoski, about 6km from Kouvola city center. Bus nro 1 from railway station. Very friendly service, little bit outdated hotel, but reasonable price, including buffet style breakfast. The room was equipped with, tv, fridge, kettle, hairdryer. Free wi-fi at public areas and it worked at our room (111). No aircon. Free parking. Reception is open only a 18.00 (sunday 12.00), so nmake a call if you are coming later - they give you a door code to get in. There are supermarket nearby and a restaurant also. There were sauna for customers, pool was closed.

I was on journey in the south east of Finland and stayed over for one night at this hotel. The hotel is rather modest, but the price is also rather reasonable. I have been here before and it still convenient if you travel in this region. The breakfast was tasty and the lady behind the desk was friendly. The reception closes rather early at the weekdays, but you get a code, so you can come in to the hotel.

Not so good, but not so bad either. Room was old but clean. Breakfast was enough. Not good for long stay. Kuusankoski center hotel. Town is nice and quiet. Local restaurants close pretty early though.

I have read some negatives comments about this hotel, but I think it is rather good. I had a nice single room with laminate flooring and a huge shower cabin. The breakfast was good and the lady behind the desk was friendly and helpful. The reception is closed at the evenings, so you need a number code to get in.

We visited Kouvola for two days and stayed at Sommelo for the nights. The hotel is very basic hotel. Room was clean even though the bath was outdated and it should be renovated. Sleep quality was good and there was no noises to be heard. Staff was friendly and the breakfast was ok.

Windows can not be opened, only a small part, but it is very small it is not enough. The room had a smell as if where used to smoke. We have seen in a hotel, two saunas but they both were only for men or only for women. Maybe they have a sauna for family or company, as well, but we have not seen. The hotel staff was friendly and the breakfast was quite varied.

My friends booked this hotel blind without checking TA first. Having stopped there and since read the reviews I think it gets a bad press but does ask for it. I can easily imagine Reception being closed from midday Sunday as Brian N discovered. It reminds me of a visit to Warsaw I did in 1975. Staff are sort of helpful but gormless and that has nothing to do with any language issue. You're better off asking fellow guests for reliable information. The rooms were clean enough and the bed comfy too. The TV did n't work and was 'unrepairable' apparently. Breakfasts were typical Finnish stuff and pretty good. There seemed to be another restaurant in the hotel but we could n't find out when it was open. There is a bar attached to the hotel which was useful. There are a few other bars within walking distance along with fast food joints at reasonable prices.Would n't fancy staying here on my own though...all a bit depressing to be honest.

This is supposedly a hotel but is the first we have used where the reception is closed from midday on Sunday, instructions how to get in are on the door and are in poor English. Basically you have to walk right round the hotel block to find the bar whose owner is the guardian of the hotel although he doesnt work for it. Anyway he gave us the key and showed us our room, number 101!. Handy right by the door but as a result noisy as anyone coming in wants to talk outside your room or wheel in very noisy troilleys. Not a good room for a sleep. Room is at best average. Everything basic was there except milk for the tea/coffee. WIth no receptionist we had to go without. Sauna was not open on Sunday as we were told by an irate American on arrival. Breakfast was average. Supposedly there is a restaurant but we didnt find it. Anyway the saving grace of our one night here was the greek restaurant nearby.

Reason: The cheapest hotel on this region on Holidays. Location: In the center of small town. Easy to get, but road missing some signs of direction if you are doing without Navigation. Room: We had a calm room, with river view. The floor was with carpet and we have some allergic to this carpet. Sleep quality was good. Hotel has a sauna and it is separate for man and women. Free WiFi was possible in the lobby not in the room. The breakfast included cold food like cheese, meat, fish, some muesli, boiled eggs, tea & coffee. Nothings special. During the breakfast was a lot of man so I could guess that this hotel mostly for truck drivers or maybe other reason. Free parking place, but if you arrive late it is possible that it is fool. Conclusion: Average hotel, do not expect from it something more. Next time I would like to find something more interesting in this area.
