Stayed 2 nights here, did the "package" that included Chitna flights and meals. Beautiful setting, great views from the flight, great staff, great food. One of those places probably not many people know about and definitely worth the expense to get there.
Such a welcome treat after driving the gravel road in to McCarthy. We stayed in the lodge rooms (shared bath). Very comfortable. Pictures of the early families who lived in Kennicott on the walls along with other memorabilia from the mining days. The food, served...More
Staff is very friendly, and accommodating. We got to chit chat with a few of them and can tell that the staff felt like family. We really enjoyed dinner and thought the food was excellent. We stayed at the main lodge with shared bathroom and...More
The staff was friendly but we were disappointed with the meals and room conditions. When we arrived the outside temperature was 46 degrees so we turned on our heat in the room. We had it set on maximum and it never got over 65 degrees....More

After driving 60 miles on a bumpy gravel road, there appears a parking lot for the Kennicott Glacier Lodge. A competent greeter drives us a quarter of a mile to the footbridge where we carry our luggage to the other side of the bridge. We...More

We were there at the end of August. We had a driver / guide, but our impression was that it was not difficult driving . The road appeared to be well maintained. No ice, no snow. I don’t recall any scary drop-offs. The road was unsealed, and I think it took 2 1/2-3 hrs after we left the Richardson Highway. Some of the road follows the old railway line that was built to take copper ore from the mine to the smelter in Cordova.
At the pedestrian bridge, there was adequate flat parking space. You have to book the van from Kennicott to the bridge.
There is a luggage trolley on each side of the bridge. Some of our number wheeled their cases across the bridge, some of us used the trolley. We were assisted with our luggage at the
bridge, and again as we arrived at the lodge. There was little walking required.
It had rained all night before we drove to McCarthy, so the road was wet and slushy. This trip was in the van from the lodge.
