We stayed in Manchai Guesthouse for 1 night, arriving with the bus from Oudomxai and leaving with the boat to Muang Ngoi. The guesthouse has good value for the money. It was clean with enough space, WIFI was good, 2 free bottles of water were provided and there was free coffee and tea. The location is perfect with everything in walking distance. The lady knows just the price in English, not many words more. But with sign language you understand eachother.

We stayed 2 nights in their twin-room (100'000 KIP) and had been very happy about our choice. The room was clean with enough space. In the night we had a good sleep. Breakfast we took at Sabaidee restaurant, which serves very good food. We recommend and would go again in this hotel.

Pleasant staff, 80000 kip for a double, one of the few in town with free wifi. Like most in this price range, it has an attached bathroom with shower over toilet, doesn't include breakfast, but includes towels, soap and bottled water. It also has a fan and TV (neither of which I used). I felt it wasn't worth the little extra over somewhere like Chaleurn Souk which is similar for 70000kip (and has free coffee and guest sitting areas). This one is next door to a place which plays enormously loud and hideous karaoke in the early evening, thankfully ending before 8pm, and in the morning anywhere from 6 am. However, any accommodation at this end of town, including Chaleurn Souk, will be affected by this (except for Sernnali Hotel, which apparently has better sound-proofing, and I'm told is very nice if your budget runs to 200,000 kip). If you don't need wifi, there are several guesthouses further along the Main Street, and across the footbridge, which are probably quieter.

A bit worried about finding a fair hostel in Muang Khua (coming by boat from Nong Khiaw, staying one night to move on to oudomxay) I thought to stay at the Chaleunsouk, but it was full. So I went up the street a few meter and found the Manchay (not ..chai!!) Guesthouse. It is just opposite the Sernnali Hotel (there is only one Sernnali). The Manchay gave me a twin-bed room single occupancy for 80K KIP, including en-suite bathroom with hot shower. What can I say. The hostel and room is clean, the room is totally fine, Wifi is good in the room (upstairs) and for one night it totally is good value. Nothing to complain. No need to spend more money here in town... Anyway the town is very small. I took dinner at a restaurant with view to the river (dont remember the name...S...), food was fine, price ok (10K for beerlao, 15K for fried rice or noodles). Yes there were some moths around the light, but what can the restaurant for this?! Overall, a nice town at the river for 1-2 days. Not much to do, but good stay for a transit. Kop jai lai lai

Room was clean. Sheets were fresh. Wifi worked and the owners were friendly. In a small place like muang khua it's one of the better guesthouses you can find. Price was 80000 which is reasonable for what you get. No breakfast included but there are plenty of options to eat in the neighbourhood.
