We booked on the day and arrived late from the Riga train having alerted the hotel. They called back and offered to have some hot food prepared for us as the kitchn was shut after 8pm. Food was delicious (thanks Pila!) and enjoyed in the quirky restaurant. If you don't mind being surveyed by stuffed animals while you eat, it's fine.

very friendly stuff. Room was clean and a stilysh. there was no kettle to make tea or coffe. breakfast was served on the table, personally. Around the hotel is a beautiful garden. In a front of a hotel there are a quite big parking lot. Stuff hold the parking lot and roads cleaned/ snowfree and safe (slipping) during this time. It was a nice stay.

It is clearly the best hotel in or near Valga/Valka and despite the lack of competition, it is actually a very good quality lodging. It is a nice building a bit off the centre with a private yard and parking lot. The staff was very friendly and welcoming and the room was much bigger than we expected. Independent of the fact if you like the hunting lodge style or not (with trophies on the walls basically everywhere), there are no stuffed animals inside the chambers and the rooms are nice, fresh and clean. Restarant menu offered basically home-cooked meals (simple, good and large portions) and the breakfast was also abundant and good. The only thing we missed was the elevator as our room was on the highest floor and it was quite tedious dragging our suitcases there. But that's a minor annoyance so if you are looking for a good quality hotel in Valga area - Metsis is the place to go.…

The hotel has a good price and value quality. Rooms are clean and service on a level, what you may not expect from a small frontier hotel. But, not for hardcore animal lovers, because of hunted and stuffed animals everywhere. I loved them - gives some personality to the hotel.

We were travelling with a group and stayed one night at this very nice hotel (if you don't mind dead animals on the walls). Our room was a triple with comfortable beds. We had a very nice dinner at the hotel restaurant in the evening, and the breakfast next morning had everything you could ask for. The hotel is on the main street og Valga, but not quite in the city centre.

Metsis in Estonian means capercaillie and that is clearly reflected in a cosy hotel full of trofees in the restaurant at the ground floor. Beautiful garden for breakfast eating and coffee latte included in breakfast menu. Really enjoyable!

We were travelling from Riga and stopped here for a late lunch en route to Tallinn. An excellent choice. It’s an old manor house. There are rooms to stay but the showpiece I think is the restaurant - large and unique in its decor as every wall space is covered with the skins of local wild animals – each duly captioned. There are also stuffed animals on window ledges and walls. Each animal is well preserved and you do not see any of that familiar decrepit skin which happens if it’s not prepared properly. The ambience has a rich feel. The service was good – we had placed our order prior to arrival, reconfirmed and the dishes came soon. Huge helpings. Excellent food. I loved the meat and the dessert course. I am glad that Tallinn Travellers chose this place. Do visit even if it’s off the beaten path.…

We stopped here for lunch on our way to Estonia and were indeed pleasantly surprised. The staff were polite, friendly and multilingual. My soup was the best I have ever tasted and some of the people I was with, who had a different soup commented likewise. The vegetarian main course I had was simply delicious. The Hotel Metsis is a must for anyone traveling through, or staying in Valga.

Great little place with loads of stuffed animals. Prices are good and staff is very friendly and multi-lingual. Location is great, though it's a small town, hard to be in a bad location. Has family rooms as well.
