We thought about staying high up in the medieval city of Chauvigny but were delighted to find this lively little Logis hotel on the Main Street, le rue de Marché, in the village below only 30m from one of the many paths leading up to the old city. And being in this area meant we had easy access to restaurants,...

Situated in the main street of Chauvigny, the best thing about the hotel is it's food. The chef, also the owner, creates some amazing dishes. Michelin star quality but without the expense. Its possible to eat from lunch time menu for as little as £20. Fully licenced. Staff are friendly and welcoming but no-one speaks English. Still, I personally didn't...

Cold rooms, slow internet, small bathroom without shower, but clean. Kindly people on the reception, they help you for every issue, French and good breakfast, restaurant inside for dinner and lunch. For short periods.

For a 2 star hotel this was fine in terms of the comfort of the room and quality of decor- it compared very well to other Logis de France hotels with 2 stars. The welcome was polite and friendly, we had a good room and the evening meal was excellent. The food others around us had also looked great. Breakfast...

We stayed at the Lion d'Or en route to the Loire, going on spec to the hotel. We managed to get a room - I must say that if you're a boutique hotel person , this might not be for you. The decor is a bit dated, but if that doesn't bother you, it's fine as all the facilities are...

Stayed here with my husband for 1 night. A friend booked it for us because of a wedding ceremony taking place in the town center. Location is good because its smack in the center but this is not the best place to stay during the hottest day in France. We didnt know what to do anymore with the humidity. They...

Good value hotel, well situated in the middle of town. For those visiting the old mediaeval town, there's a chance to get some mild exercise walking up the hill, via the footpaths - always useful when contemplating ndulgence in the local delicacies. There's nothing exceptional about the hotel, but it's clean, affordable and convenient. What more do you want?

The Lion d'Or is the closest restaurant to our home, but we believe it can compete with the best in the department: we have never had a less than very good meal there. The slightly tired exterior and interior décor indicate only an unassuming modesty, which is one of the nicest aspects of the place. The welcome is always warm...

We've been using this hotel on and off for one night stays over a period of nearly twelve years, normally in March/April and we expect to use it again in the future. We have always been warmly welcomed and found the rooms to be comfortable, clean, warm and more than adequate for a one night stop. The restaurant is the...

A flight to Poitiers and a two-night stay at the le Lion d'Or, Chauvigny. The location is city centre, a minute from the wonderful Saturday market. This hotel? Rooms: certainly a little dated, but quaint, and very clean. Breakfast: very good. Staff: very good and friendly too. Service: excellent. Kir Royale: more-ish! The restaurant on a Saturday evening: a delight,...
