Travellers' Choice
The Vicarage Freehouse & Rooms is a 17th-century grade II listed country pub & hotel - essentially a restaurant with rooms. We are foodie-hub with a locally sourced menu - everything is driven by the gardeners, foragers, farmers and suppliers of Cheshire. The Vicarage takes its inspiration from the Cheshire countryside, utilising British produce and resources while championing eco-sustainability. The menus change depending on the seasons and what can be sourced locally. All our rooms echo our own country-boutique style ... but not overdone. We strip out any unnecessary nonsense and focus on everything that matters for a quality stay. A comfy bed, all have en-suite facilities, great decor, quality coffee facilities and a cracking breakfast. A simple recipe really... Dogs and wellies openly welcomed ..!

We enjoyed our stay at the Vicarage very much. The staff were lovely very friendly and attentive. The room was nice but the bed was a smallish double which I’m not used to but it was clean and a great price. Breakfast was lovely very well presented. We are dinner one of the evenings we stayed and the food was lovely. Will stay again

We have stayed at The Vicarage several times in the last few years, usually with our [large] dog. On every occasion, including this one, we have found all the staff to be friendly, helpful and cheerful - an amazing achievement o maintain in the face of Covid's onslaught on the hospitality trade. It's fair to say that Covid restrictions have taken away some of the previous atmosphere in the restaurant, but no hotel team could have tried harder to compensate for that in terms of good food, smiling service and solicitous attention to our enjoyment. We love the signature rooms on the first floor, which are very light and comfortable, but travelling with a dog involves rooms on the ground floor which we have often found rather hot and difficult to cool even opening windows wide [which in itself is tricky, as people are often walking past]. We're willing to put up with that to have the dog with us, but it is something we have mentioned to the hotel - mainly because it's just about the only drawback we could find - and it certainly wouldn't put us off staying again in the future. Well done to all at The Vicarage.

Extremely helpful staff and an overall really lovely visit. Dinner was brilliant - they called me on my way up to ask what I would like, and as I was going to be checking in at past 9pm (last sitting is at 9pm) they let me order over the phone so it was ready when I arrived. Really comfortable stay & all the facilities you’d need in the room, including a fan which was needed with the hot weather. Finished off with a great breakfast in the morning!

The team at the Vicarage were outstanding with fabulous friendly service, great cocktails and attention to detail. However food quality was average, with the kitchen music battling with background in the outside area and rooms were uncomfortable with heating pipes left on in 25 degrees, leading to a sleepless night. Once the food and atmosphere management is nailed this venue will be superb......until then keep the visit for a great drinks & service experience alone

We were initially given a room on the downstairs floor right next to the outdoor seating area, but I asked to move to a quieter room and this was done swiftly with no issues. However, this room was on the floor above and again looked over the outdoor seating area, which we personally found to be quite noisy. Due to general noise and the neighbouring cockerel and peacocks in fact we were pleased to return home for a decent sleep. The ceiling leaked water from above the shower in bathroom and curtain tie back holder was hanging off which I think gave a bit of a shoddy impression. Staff however delivered excellent customer service and worked very hard and were polite and friendly. Food first night lovely, second night not so. Car parking shocking and people driving around to try park up and on a busy main road with no other parking this was a concern. We will not return unfortunately.
