We stayed this place one night on our way to Lapland, because we have never visited Kalajoki before. The place was quite nice, like a home. Price was reasonable and breakfast was good. The Kalajoki beach is worth visiting.

I recomend the "Pari Talo" houses, its separate 2 apparment houses. its a big living room and a fully equiped kitchen, 1 bed room and big dressing, shower and sauna room. upstairs is 1 big room with many beds, good for kids. There is also in the living room a "Tulikivi" soap stone Fire place. you dont need to make fire for heating, Houses have central floor heating, but for a cosy evening to look at the fire and on next coming days get understand what soapstone is about... If you want some more luxury they have some houses close to the pool area who are bigger and newer, with own carport. Pool area in the summer, mostly for kids. If you travel with low budget, with bike or mc, they have this very small old timber houses, no luxury at all, but low price. Medium price is the "Pytinkki" house, 2 floor 4 room each floor, big livingrom for all in first floor. Breakfast inkluded in main building, most traditional Finnish home made food, home baked bread. they have also bikes to loan and trampcars for kids. over all a place i like,

If you dont mind traffic noises from main road next to the place nor hearing every discusdion you r next door neightbours are having, then this might be you budget accomondation. Staff is friendly, the breakfast is really basic and place has nice rustic feeling.

Stayed 1 night in Wäentupa with my family. I know that Kalajoki is high on tourist trail in Finland but still 85€/night of this place is way too much. They have different kind of rooms, so please remember that my review concerns only about that Wäentupa. All those rooms are on a second floor of a building next to reception house. Definetly this is not a place for any person with even slightest difficulties to claim stairs as they are were steep and small. Room smelled bad, it must have problem with mould or something. "Cooking area" downstairs had two heating plates but no plates, pans or anything. So don't plan to cook anything in here without your own equipment. Location is near higway 8, so it is a bit far from the beach. On the plus side breakfast was good. Porridge, sandwitch etc. No complains there. Overall Kalajoki is very nice place, but there must be better lodging options available than this place. I would not mind so much if the price would be about 50€/night, but now it was just too expensive compared to what you got with it.
