The sign outside says ‘boutique hotel’, but that may throw you a bit off track. The hotel is actually a few rooms in one (maybe two) picturesque wooden villas in the old part of Raahe. The hotel functions as part of a very popular café which I found to cause unnecessary delays while registering. I wouldn’t say that the rooms are ‘renovated’. They are more like redecorated into a pastiche of a 19th century neoclassical style of the original villas. The room was charming enough, and the breakfast was simple but very edible. The location is excellent for Raahe.

Langin Kauppahuone provided an excellent stay for a short weekend getaway in lovely old town Raahe. The attention to detail in every room was great and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. For some souvenirs, check out the shop next to the cafe. We picked up some artisan soap and cool postcards to remember the trip by!

The hotel has been built into the premises of "Langin kauppahuone" (Lang's merchant house), a very traditional place of trade in Raahe. Each room is different, but all have old-time atmosphere. Bathroom facilities are modern. Soundproofing is not optimal, but that is more than offset by the dive into times gone by. Our room (Patruunan kamari, The patron's chamber) had a view to the Pekka-square, with a statue of Raahe's founder in the center of the square. Entrance to the premises was from the inner yard, which was abloom during our visit in July. Check-in time is early, but if you arrive late (like we did) just give them a call in advance to give your ETA. And when you get there, the person who lets you in arrives in just two minutes from the neighbouring building. Breakfast was in one of the rooms of the accompanying Cafe. Stylish, and had all you could ask for. Pity we moved on until the actual cafe opened, the sweet things looked and smelled great! This is definitely for you if you are looking for something out of the ordinary. Best lodging during our one week tour in western Finland.

This old atmosphere is great escape from the modern world. Excellent wi-fi though. Everything is old with a good taste and down to the details. Only few rooms, which all are different. My room was bit cold but extra blanket solved the problem. Breakfast was great and tasty. Everything was home made and the bread was straight from the oven. Local homemade marmalade was perfect. Wort to visit.
