We stayed here at the weekend (the first after lockdown) and I must say the building is pretty spectacular and the family room on the top floor was absolutely brilliant for our needs as there were two seperate rooms with a family bathroom in between. The only downside was an adult would struggle to stand in the bath to use the shower due to the sloping ceiling. Due to the current covid restrictions breakfast was just left out in the kitchen for us to help ourselves but there was no shortage of cereals, bread, crumpets, pancakes, fruit, tea, coffee and juice. If we were passing through again would definitely stay here.

Saturday in November while attending a wedding nearby. Lovely setting, building and bedroom (massive). Friendly staff. Useful guest information in the room (including restaurants and taxis) although we never did get the WiFi to work (reported on departure - apparently they'd had problems but it was due to be sorted out soon). Some very nice touches in the room - usual tea and biscuits etc. but also boiled sweets and bottled water. Fresh milk available if we did not like cartons. A variety of teas. Bath robes as well as towels. Immaculate attached bathroom with decent shower. The breakfast was superb: very wide choice of cereals including gluten free options, but also lovely fresh fruit (gorgeous strawberries, passion fruit halves, blueberries, dates etc.) and then excellent cooked breakfast - all good ingredients cooked well and not greasy. Vegetarian sausages were available too. Cooked to order so it took a while but worth the wait. A lovely stay and very good value; recommended highly.

Booked the Whitethorn B&B as a stop over on our way to the Midlands, the choice was down to the excellent reviews. We arrived at around 7pm and were met by an elderly lady who was very direct and quite abrasive as she handed us our key and gestured us towards the stairs with directions to our room. We couldn't help but notice the untidiness of the room adjacent to the hallway which we initially thought was the laundry room due to the amount of linen scattered everywhere. The room itself was very nice and spacious with a well stocked tea tray. The bedroom and bathroom were relatively clean but it certainly could have been cleaner. Our main concerns and criticism came after taking a shower. We noticed that the towels spelt like cooked food, not very pleasant after just showering. All the towels were the same and we wondered if they had not been swapped or washed. Breakfast was excellent as per all the other reports, there was a distinct sound of a microwave 'ping' but we are not adverse to our baked beans and scrambled eggs being cooked this way. The reasons for the smell on the towels became evident as we were checking out. We paid by card and were asked to use the machine which is located in what we thought was the laundry room....it was actually the kitchen. There were piles of linen located on shelving in the corner of the kitchen which we thought was a very strange place to keep it considering food was being cooked. Sadly this did leave us somewhat shocked and it did spoil our overall opinion of this guest house.

We booked two rooms for a one-night stay for three of us whilst we were attending a wedding nearby. Close to our travelling time we realised that we would probably need to change clothes prior to the ceremony and enquired of the owner whether we will be able to gain access to a room at approximately 12 noon. Joanne said she would endeavour to have one room available. When we arrived in fact both rooms have been made up early, which meant we had a very relaxed change and shower before the ceremony. The rooms were great. We were out until well after midnight and the next morning the breakfast was superb better than the 5* Le Phebus & Spa in Provence where we had stayed the week before. Having left our car at the wedding reception the previous night we asked the owners whether there was a taxi firm locally that we could use and were immediately informed that they would be pleased to run us back to Sandhole Oak Barn. Low and behold, the farmer (Joanne’s husband, I think) then drove us the 4 miles back to the reception and refused to take any payment. What lovely people.

This location was very convenient for us as we needed to be in the area. It is easy to find, just off the main A34. The views are pleasant and the area is very peaceful, with good local pubs for meals. There is a garden centre with a café quite close by and Astbury Mere is also close and has a visitor centre, lovely little café and a one-mile mainly level walk around the mere that is suitable for walkers, pushchairs and wheelchairs.Little Morton Hall (National Trust) is only a few miles away. We stayed in Tall Trees, the room and ensuite were both very clean. The room is a generous size, with a very large comfortable bed and ample storage space. There is adjustable heating in both rooms. However, there is a table for the kettle and drinks tray, but no desk or chair if you need to work. There is only one easy chair. The ensuite had good quality toiletries and although we did not use them, bathrobes were provided. The breakfast menu is excellent, lots of choice. Our breakfasts on both days were absolutely superb. Freshly prepared, good quality food, beautifully cooked and served. A range of cereals were provided, along with fruit juices. My husband likes a full English except for beans and black pudding (which were both available if you do want them) and his breakfast was delicious. There was a freshly prepared fruit selection - sliced melon, fresh raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, grapes. All delicious. Yoghurts are available too. Then I had perfectly cooked poached eggs and smoked salmon. Ideal for me. There was toast and a range of preserves. The breakfast room is well equipped, and is light and airy with field views. The bedrooms are upstairs. There had been a lot of rain in the days before we arrived and there was standing water at the entrance to the drive but it was not too deep so we got in OK. This farm bed and breakfast is above average in the quality of the rooms and especially the food, is in a lovely, peaceful location, and is a very fair price. I look forward to returning.
