Valkea is a relatively small 'holiday park'. The approach is very personal. Many excursions start on location or a bus to location is arranged. Unburdening and thinking along is of paramount importance.
On the first day we joined the excursion with snowshoes. My parents had to drop out. The children were left with brother-in-law and sister-in-law. One of the guides (and owner of Valkea turned out later) brought the stragglers to the break point with a beautiful sleigh, where we could still take a break together.
When my little brother and his son had to cancel the excursion to Santa Clause Village, it was only natural that he came to lunch in the restaurant, where their presence was not expected.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner we always had at the same table in the restaurant. As a result, we did not stress about enough places for our group of 11. The little ones in the restaurant were also the first to get their food served. Then the rest of the guests, that gave peace for the children and their parents 😉
For the children (and adults) there was no time for boredom outside the excursions. Each cottage had its own sleigh! What fun we had with this!
As icing on the cake, we were surprised on Christmas Eve with a visit from none other than Santa Claus! All the kids could sit on their lap and got a nice gift.
All in all, the staff at Valkea gave us a carefree and unforgettable holiday. The communication was good, help was always ready, excursions started on time and the staff is professional and exceptionally friendly. Definitely recommended!

A big thank you to the entire Valkea Lodge team and especially to Maureen and Mika. Availability, advice, smile, kindness. Perfect organization. We were close to perfection. The excursions offered were all as wonderful as each other. The lodges were perfectly equipped (mini kitchen, wood fire, boot warmer, bathroom with underfloor heating, small living room, etc.). A very good time in a splendid region.

Beautiful lodges with all the trimmings. Meals very sparse, especially breakfast was quite meager. This is in contrast to other comments. Dinner was also very limited in both quality and quantity. We had much better restaurants on our Blue Bird trip.

What better way to start the New Year: An unforgettable experience in a fairy tale environment, enjoying the wilderness of pure nature and the comfort of a very clean and cozy cabin. Amazing for the whole family. The very well organised and incredible activities, the delicious food and very friendly and helpful staff made our three-day stay just perfect. A really big thank you to Antti-Pekka and the whole team for everything. A special thanks to Mia and Avi for their much appreciated support and flexibility. We will be back! :-)

I booked two rooms for my family of four to stay for three nights. Very comfortable accommodation. The staff were extremely nice and very accommodating! We were in the woods .enjoyed watching a family of Reindeer who enjoyed setting in the shade near our rooms Each room had a bedroom. Living room with a small kitchen , stove, fridge, microwave, French press and plates , cups and utensils. Nice size bathroom with big standing shower and a window . We had two family events with the extended family at Valkea’s Restaurant. One for a milestone birthday and the other for a family reunion in which we had the entire resturant to ourselves. The service and food were excellent!! I can’t say enough about how lovely this place is ! I asked the chef if it’s possible to have a small birthday cake for my daughter’s birthday that happened to be at that time , I was told it was not a problem and they did have a beautiful delicious cake for her . Hotel staff were very friendly and service was excellent!! Free WiFi in every lodge and in the main building where the restaurant is We had a very lovely time . We plan to go back for another stay.

We stayed here 4 nights at the end of January 2018, with temperatures around -20. Unfortunately we had a cabin without sauna, because they were all booked. Due to the outside temperatures, inside the cabin it was not really comfortable without using the wood burner. The cabin itself is nice and clean with a small kitchen area. The beds are good but the pillows small and disappointing. The shower is ok. Staff at the Reception and in the Restaurant are very friendly and helpful. There is free Wi-Fi in the main building and in the cabins but sometimes it is very slow. The Lodge is located at a lake which was totally frozen during our stay and as far as you could see everything was beautifully covered with snow. We took a 3 hour snowmobile tour which was really nice, but it actually took 2 hours (which was sufficient due to the temperature). The sleigh rides with the huskies were an amazing experience, but the one sold as 1,5 hours takes about an hour and the 3 hour one took about 2 hours. Breakfast in the Lodge is an average buffet, the set lunch has 3 courses and is excellent value for money (€12). Diner is also a set, 3-course meal, most of the time good, but the pike burger was the worst food we had in a long time (lunch and dinner are also available a la carte). When having breakfast and lunch there were only a few other people in the restaurant. However, diner starts at 19.00 with appr 50 people which makes the restaurant a very noisy place. Unfortunately diner only starts when everyone is present and one night this meant we had to wait until 19.30 before they started with serving the appetizer. We found this a very unpleasant experience.

Response from Valkea A, Director of Sales at Valkea Arctic Lodge
Responded 19 Apr 2018
Hi, Thank you very much for your detailed review, this is good for us to hear this kind of feedback so we know what to improve. Some small comments on your feedback: - All of the safari times are given including the briefing and instruction part. So yes, it is quite common that the driving part of a 3 h Snowmobile safari actually lasts only 2 h - depending on the group etc. (And the same with the husky safaris) - Sorry to hear you didn't like the pike burger! I think we will take this off the menu for next year, it has quite a specific strong taste. - Regarding the noise level in the restaurant, we are aware of this, and we are planning to get some acoustic panels for the restaurant to soften the noise levels. - We also got the same feedback from other guests regarding the restaurant staff not serving the starter before everybody everybody is present, and they have instructions now to start serving the starter immediately. Hope this works better now. Thank you again for your kind feedback, and we wish you a good summer! Kind regards, Mia & the Valkea team

As we speak we are enjoying the hospitality of the owners and theorie staff at Valkea Lodge. The lodge moved from Sweden to Finland and is brand new. The cabins are beautiful, nice sauna in the cabin, the food is excellent with more vegetables than we expected. Cappuccino are good. We enjoy the well organised activities(husky safari, snow mobile, etc). The lodge is located near the ski slope and the biathlon stadium.

Amazing location, well-equipped apartments with private sauna, private fireplace and a breathtaking view to the lake. The breakfast and the dinner were both delicious and you can also organise retreat activities in the Safari room. Great place to recharge your batteries.
