What better way to start the New Year: An unforgettable experience in a fairy tale environment, enjoying the wilderness of pure nature and the comfort of a very clean and cozy cabin. Amazing for the whole family. The very well organised and incredible activities, the delicious food and very friendly and helpful staff made our three-day stay just perfect. A really big thank you to Antti-Pekka and the whole team for everything. A special thanks to Mia and Avi for their much appreciated support and flexibility. We will be back! :-)

I stayed with a group at Valkea, but I had a lodge for myself: consisting of kitchen, fireplace, table, living with sofa and tv, bedroom and balcon. It is quite new (3 years) and in perfect condition. The materials are well chosen. The windows that open have their insect screen (when I was there I saw few insects). To have your private sauna was fantastic. The view from the balcon could be better, since the restaurant building is blocking partly the view towards the lake. The complex offers also a restaurant/bar. Very friendly staff. In winter you can do winter sports, in summer you can enjoy the lake, walk into the woods... This accomadation is thus suited both for summer and winter. The city of Rovaniemi is only 50 km away.

I am still talking about this amazing adventure! Every day we had an adventure we had never ever had in our lives before which was so exciting! We had excellent guides who took us snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, reindeer sleighing, dog sledding and to spend the day with Sixten a Sami elder. They were all incredible. The wilderness surrounding the lodge is stunningly beautiful..and you have it all to yourself. We were there a week and we did something different each day or you can just relax in your spotless cabin with a sauna and wood burning stove. The food at the lodge was delicious! I walked around with a smile on my face the entire time I was there :) We went to see the Northern lights...but it wouldn't have mattered if we hadn't...it was that much fun! We did see them four times..twice they were the " regular " northern lights and twice they were the amazing waves of color, dancing aurora borealis lights...we were very lucky. You can book your adventure directly with the lodge...Mia was wonderful at helping us decide what activities to do....we got the package deal and then added on activities. We flew in to Rovaniemi, the capital of Lapland. They pick you up at the airport and the lodge is about an hour away. Valkea Lodge is a special place...AP, Mia, Robert, Adam, Paula and the entire awesome staff work together to make this an unforgettable experience...I loved loved loved this trip. If you are thinking of going to Lapland, come here. You will be so glad you did!

We've had a wonderful and unforgettable experience!!! Rooms were super clean and cosy. You get everything you need to enjoy the wilderness of Lapland. Breakfast is really good, every morning warm bread, a selection of meat, cheese ... but also yoghurt with seeds and berries, eggs, sausages, meatballs ... Dinner after a day out in nature was equally great. Every day a starter, main course and dessert.

If it can't get better because the nature is gorgeous, the lodge is state-of-the-art, the staff is super friendly, helpful and funny, the food is delicious and the activities are pure fun - and all of a sudden the northern lights are dancing on the sky... Thank you very much Team Valkea Arctic Lodge for this amazing experience! The cabins are spacious, well equipped (even a small kitchen, a fireplace, a couch and a TV) and clean. Usefull addition: a dryer for shoes and gloves. We did: - A guided snowshoe tour through the forest. The guide has made the trail a day ago so it was easy to walk (compared to deep powder snow) but still adventurous. The guide told and showed us a lot about the flora and fauna. - A snowmobile tour - fun! :) - A short reindeer sledge tour and a visit of an ice hotel. - A dog sledding tour. It's really impressive how much power these dogs have and it's such a nice experience to drive through the forest in silence. All these activities included a lunch prepared on the open fire. Delicious :) - A snowshoe hike to Pello on our own. - Crosscountry skiing on our own. The whole week was perfectly organised, we had all the information needed. Even a special wish, an optional birthday cake, was no problem. Highly recommended!

We just returned from Valkea Arctic lodge. We have spent 4 nights there. Cabins were superb. Nice, clean and spacious. Heating worked good, which is necessary at -30. Food was excellent. We did a Husky safari, a snowmobile safari and a snowshoe safari. The snowmobile and snowshoe were very nice with a very very good guide! As for the Husky, that was disappointing due to the lady who was in charge of this safari. She was sooooo rude!! She litterly said to several persons in the group: “Are you stupid? You must be an idiot!” Just because the dogs took a wrong way and pulled the sledge over. I have never experienced a guide which was so rude in my whole life. She ruined my (expensive) day. At dinner other people complained as well. How can such a person be in the lead of a toursitic safari??? Another disappontment was the we weren’t called when there was The Aurora Borealis. During the reception it was said that people were going to be warned till 24h in case the Aurira was visible. It was visible as from 21h30 but nobody warned us. Other guest weren’t informed as well. No service!! In fact, the lady during the reception didn’t know ver much of when the Aurora would bevisible. She said it would be cloudy all week, where in fact all weather forecast predicted it would be very clear weather for 2 days. She wasn’t informed at all. So in all: we liked the experience a lot. Most people were friendly and the guides for snowshoe andsnowmobie deserve a big applause. But the downsides should not have happened!

Thank you very much for your review and feedback, these are very valuable to us. We are happy to hear that you had a nice adventure, with many good points. Regarding the downsides; we have been aware of the lacking of reliable service with the manual Aurora Alarm. As the alarm is manual, it has unfortunately happened as in your case, that our guests did not get the manual alarm. Now we have an improved digital system - there is an aurora alarm camera installed on top of the mountain, which sends real time images to a computer which analyzes the images. If the computer senses aurora from the images, it will send an sms-alarm to the numbers that we have inserted into the system (when our guests arrive, they can take part of this sms-alarm service by providing us with their mobile numbers). For the husky safari - at this point we can only give our sincere apologies. We are working on a solution for this. It seems as the husky musher has been very stressed, and acted in completely unacceptable manners. Good to hear that you in all liked the experience at Valkea a lot! Kind regards, Mia

I booked two rooms for my family of four to stay for three nights. Very comfortable accommodation. The staff were extremely nice and very accommodating! We were in the woods .enjoyed watching a family of Reindeer who enjoyed setting in the shade near our rooms Each room had a bedroom. Living room with a small kitchen , stove, fridge, microwave, French press and plates , cups and utensils. Nice size bathroom with big standing shower and a window . We had two family events with the extended family at Valkea’s Restaurant. One for a milestone birthday and the other for a family reunion in which we had the entire resturant to ourselves. The service and food were excellent!! I can’t say enough about how lovely this place is ! I asked the chef if it’s possible to have a small birthday cake for my daughter’s birthday that happened to be at that time , I was told it was not a problem and they did have a beautiful delicious cake for her . Hotel staff were very friendly and service was excellent!! Free WiFi in every lodge and in the main building where the restaurant is We had a very lovely time . We plan to go back for another stay.

I cannot recommend the Valkea Arctic Lodge enough. My wife and I had 3 days stay for the ‘Swim the Arctic’ race and stayed in the most perfect location for preparation before and recovery after the event. The lodges are perfect, the setting amazing and the staff are the friendliest and most helpful anywhere I have stayed in the world. Even though we had an issue with the tv and the internet, it didn’t spoil our enjoyment and almost made it more enjoyable without the modern technology to get in the way of peace and quiet. Many thanks to all at Valkea Lodge and we look forward to returning in the winter for the northern lights and dog sledding experience too. Simon and Lisa

Hi Simon and Lisa, So glad to hear that you had a beautiful weekend with us and Swim the Arctic Circle event! Good to know that the issue with the TV and internet didn't spoil your stay; the lightening during the thunder storm broke the TV and internet fuse. Internet is now back in the cabin and we have ordered a new TV :). Looking forward to seeing you again in the winter! Warm regards, Mia & the Valkea team

An amazing first trip to Lapland. The people at Valkea lodge are all super helpful. Felt like a family more than a team. First time ever I saw the Northern lights an all because of an extra safari Valkea lodge organised to the top of a hill.
