After a three-year delay due to the pandemic, we finally arrived at The Cottages. They exceeded our expectations with cozy accommodations in updated 300 yr-old cottages, beautiful gardens, and views, and an easy walk to the Irish Sea where I found "Wishing Stones" for our three grandkids. The Cottages are nestled between Bettystown and Laytown which has easy access to public transportation (buses) and trains (Belfast & Dublin). Since we did not have a car, this was a plus! Liz & Roger Pickett, owners of the Cottages, and their staff create a warm, inviting environment. We hated to leave!

Property's Favourite Review
My husband and I along with our friend booked a 10 day stay at these beautiful cottages. We cannot say enough good things about our experience there. We stayed at Rose cottage which is beautifully appointed with everything that you need and more. The attention to detail such as slippers and robes, heated towel racks, fully stocked kitchen, information on local points of interest and restaurants certainly contribute to an enjoyable stay. The beautiful flowers, grounds and meticulous landscaping add to the serene atmosphere with the beautiful ocean as a backdrop. Liz and Roger are gracious and friendly hosts and are a pleasure to meet and chat with. Mel and the staff are helpful and accommodating and always with a smile. We highly recommend the cottages for a superb and pampered vacationing experience. Ed and Melinda Snow

We decided to have a winter escape away from the claustrophobia of working from home. The Cottages were perfect. An island of tranquility set in beautiful grounds which open directly onto the almost limitiless beach. The cottage was fully equipped for self-catering with fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. I'd be hard-pressed to ask for more. Everyone we met there, staff and owners alike, were very lovely people. I am very glad we chose The Cottages.

Coming all the way from that Lone Star State of Texas, I never thought I would encounter such an incredible welcome during our ten day stay with friends at The Cottages! Liz, Roger and entire staff went out of their way to see that we had that perfect vacation. We were assisted with day trips and drivers that truly were a fountain of information. We stayed at the Rose Cottage and felt so at home with all the amenities one could ask for. The view of the sea from our cottage window was stunning to say the least. Thank you so much for a stellar and memorable experience I will never forget! Susan M.

Dear Susan, It was a joy to have you all with us even more so this year with the uncertainty of the past 18 months. We are delighted you had such a wonderfully memorable trip and got to see so much of the country, everything from sheep dog trials in the Wicklow hills to Galway and the Cliffs of Moher. Enjoy all your extra special memories and do come visit again some time in the future. With warmest best wishes, Roger, Liz and all the Team.

This was our fifth visit to The Cottages - & Honeymoon Cottage was our destination on this trip. It is as cosy and comfortable as the other cottages and we really enjoyed our 3-night break and were sorry we hadn't booked for longer. For anyone who hasn't been here - don't hesitate to book (if there's any availability!). The cottages are spotless and there is such attention to detail - home from home in every respect. We were happy to cook in and just enjoy the beautiful gardens with private access to the beach. The Cottages are the perfect place to unwind and relax. It was lovely catching up with hosts, Liz and Roger and their great Team (including the very cute Poppy 'Bassett'). Thanks to all and see you again soon! xo

Cannot recommend The Cottages highly enough. We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of May, two for travelling on essential business and we added one night for leisure. With Lockdown one of our concerns was safety, but absolutely no need to worry. The Covid protocols were excellent, with clear guidelines and a video prepared for all guests to look at beforehand. Everything was done very professionally, which put us at ease. However, what put us even more at ease was the accommodation! The cottages were beautiful and maintained to a very high standard. Full of character, yet with all the mod cons. One of the most comfortable beds we have slept on! The weather wasn't great, but that didn't matter as we found it the perfect atmosphere just to relax in the cottages, looking out at the beautiful gardens. As keen gardeners ourselves, this was an added bonus. And the beach was just a stroll away too. We felt we had been pampered and will be back!

A beautifully secluded and private location beside a fantastic beach for walking and swimming. We stayed at the 2 person Honeymoon Cottage which has a triple aspect and is very cosy with separate bedroom, living/kitchen and dining/sitting room. Looking forward to returning and taking advantage of a longer break

From the time we arrived the welcome and attention we got from Liz and Rodger and Staff Mell was so personal. I stayed in the Rose Cottage with my husband and came back with my friend and stayed in the Apple Loft Lodge. The cottages are so well equipped and cosy. With the sea at the end of the garden it was spectacular. We left feeling relaxed and we will be definitely back

It was so good that we have already booked to go back again, my kids loved it, they had their own little garden with play houses and swings and lots of colour, the house was perfect and we woke up to the ocean. Everything was easy and relaxed. Our favourite escape with kids.

In 'normal' times we would never have even considered a trip up the road from Dublin for a break, but boy were we glad we had the opportunity to visit The Cottages! They are just a little piece of heaven here on earth! The views are amazing, both in the garden and to the sea - they are right on the beach so no excuse for some wonderful walks and refreshing swims! Liz, Roger, Mel and of course, chief member of staff, Poppy, are all so welcoming and nothing was too much bother - you are really made feel at home. We stayed for our first few nights in Garden Cottage which we loved with stunning views of the incredible garden that is a credit to it's owners. One thing to note is that the childrens play area is straight in front of this cottage and is the nearest to the road, but neither bothered us. We then moved into Thatchers Rest, the creme de la creme of the cottages - and what a view! Overall a great stay here and we certainly relaxed and got the down time we needed. My only negative would be the duvet on the bed - not the best and let's the 5* experience down (& the cover didn't fit) but that would certainly not stop us returning again - and we'll definitely do that! A real true find on our doorstep! Thank you to all at The Cottages for a great stay.

Dear DeeDub002, Thank you for that glowing review of your stay with us here at The Cottages. We’re delighted you had such a wonderfully relaxing break and got to recharge those batteries. No excuse for the wrong duvet and duvet cover, we will ensure that doesn’t happen again and we will most certainly take a look at the Super king size duvet in Thatcher’s Rest Cottage and check why it was not our usual top quality. If you had mentioned it during your stay we would have been happy to attend to the matter on the spot. Thank you for bringing it to our attention for our future guests. We hope you both have a great Summer. With warmest regards, Roger, Liz and all the Team
