The hotel has a good location in Sillamae, which is an interesting city to visit if you're into the soviet era history of Estonia. The hotel itself is very clean and well kept. The staff is friendly and the food in the restaurant is good.
The four star award I give the hotel should not be misunderstood. The hotel is in a town that is - at least for most people-rather strange. Sillamae is recovering from its history under Soviet control as a industrial centre heavily involved through its uranium processing with the Soviet nuclear effort. As a result of the town was officially off the maps for a period of time and after independence had to deal with new, Western environmental standards. The centre of the town is best described as neo-classical Stalinist in architectural style; actually much more interesting than that sounds. The hotel is great value, simple and perfectly adequate - and its refurbishment some time ago still leaves a fresh feel. Don't expect more than good, clean basics in the bedroom (ours was large and en suite). We ate dinner and the (included) breakfast. The former was ok even if the pasta was somewhat heavy. The buffet breakfast was limited in choice but the coffee was ok (ie not dishwater) and we enjoyed the pancakes. Go to Sillamae - and stay here - while you can. Everything will change over time and the experience won't remain the same. …
We ended up in Krank randomly while cruising around. Pretty outside, bit empty inside(especially the lobby). We stayed in delux room with kids and hotel made up couch for kids. Very big room with big desk, huge bathroom and comfy bed. Very friendly service and tasty breakfast. I was not expecting much, but received good service. Thank you Krunk! Normal rooms had bit cheap furniture inside, but very roomy. Delux had much better furniture inside. We got good deal for the room too.
Outlook of the Hotel is the positive side and that's about it. If you really need to visit Sillamäe, consider staying some other place and visit town by car on daytime. Staff has no language or service skills, what so ever. Only acceptable language at the hotel is Russian though hotel is located in Estonia!
A lot of work has gone into making this. Modern hotel inside an old Soviet shell. Lovely friendly staff that speak English. Has own excellent Grill Bar. Town has great architecture and a ferry to Finland. Near beaches so a good stop I'm the summer for a family
Very nice hotel. We stay just for one night. Car parking is for additional fee.
Make sure you shower early as the hot water runs out. The hotel is very quiet unless there is a private function on, but the side bar is usually fairly busy. There was a Russian band playing the night we were there for a function, which was VERY LOUD but entertaining, and they love their Russian dances. There is also a small restaurant nearby, which turns into a nightclub after eleven ish, but i would recommend you don't stay to late. At the top of the village (on the main road) their is a local bar / restaurant which is excellent.
We spent in this hotel one night at August 2008. The entrance and reception desk seemed like gracious and expensive place. Our room was clean and nice, there were own bathroom and TV. I think we were the only clients in that hotel, maybe that's why there were so quiet and peaceful. The breakfast included to the room price and it was good. When we arrived the hotel, we had to select what we will want to eat at the morning by ticking the box of breakfast list.
