We took the Northern Lights package with Holiday Village Valle in mid Dec 2018. Still a quiet season before Christmas, we almost have the whole place to ourselves. We stayed four nights in a cabin for our family of four. The cabin is very well maintained, I would say, tip top condition. Sufficient hot water, nicely adjusted heaters in the rooms, well equipped kitchen, a sauna and a lovely front porch facing the Teno River. We never felt cold in any way during our stay in the cabin. There is also a nice huge dryer in the walkway to our cabin to dry up our thermal accessories quickly, which is great. The only thing we lamented is short daylight hours to enjoy the magnificent view from our front porch as we were out during most of our daylight hours for our activities! Hours with some daylight is only from 9.30am to about 2pm during this polar night season of the year.
Our package includes half board. We arrived late into midnight and our first dinner was packed in our cabin ready for us, which was very nice. It includes nice smoked raw local fish and salmon which we like very much. Breakfast is buffet style at Deatnu Restaurant. For dinner, one of the night was reindeer special, which we must declare it was a bit too strong taste to our comfort level. Another night's Christmas spread special was very nice though.
We were in Finland with the main objective to view Northern Lights, as well as for snow activities specifically within Finland. We went for reindeer safari, huskies safari as well as skiing and sleighing along slopes around the resort location, and ice fishing. And of course, the lights! On the first night, it was very cloudy. We did not go out. On the second night, it was still partially cloudy. Our guides drove us around in search of a clear sky to wait for the lights. And we did manage to find a location, and saw a small display of the lights. Not a very strong one, but we were all very happy to catch this, especially this was after almost one hour of driving around. After we left and went back to our cabin, we still manage to see the lights dimly in the sky from our front porch, changing its display every minute. On the third night, the sky is cloudless. We took a hike from the resort to a high ground nearby, about 1km away. It was a great place on top of a slope with clearing, no obstruction, clear sky, no unnatural lights nearby and our guides set up a nice warm fire as we waited for the lights. The light did come, although it was quite a wait. Again not a very strong display, but it was still a nice experience for us, after a great walk. Again, after we went back to our cabin, the light display in the sky continued on well into the night. We took some pictures of it even from our cabin, although not very bright, but considering there's road lamp nearby, this is quite a good exposure. We were all satisfied with our little encounters with the light display during our stay here.
I must commend on our guides, Antti and Henna, who were with us during our whole stay here. Professional and helpful, they made us feel comfortable and relaxed. We all have an enjoyable time with their guidance and advice. Also, our camera is a whole knockout during the light display. Not a professional with DSLR, we were not able to take pictures of the lights, and if not for the expertise of our great guides, we would not have the nice photos to take back with us for great memories. Thank you again, Antti and Henna, for the wonderful experience we had in Utsjoki.

We spent one night + had dinner at Valle and really enjoyed our stay. We stayed at the hotel building in a lovely, modern room with views towards Norway and river Teno. We had an amazing dinner (the Teno sashimi is to die for) and really enjoyed both the food and the hospitality and attitude of the staff. It was also fun to sit outside and enjoy a drink, watching the fishermen and listening to their stories. The small herd of reindeer sleeping under the hotel rooms' windows was an added bonus. Highly recommend this place!

We were on a snowmobile tour and found the holiday village very good, the cabin was well equipped, good sauna, the restaurant next door was great for an evening meal and breakfast, and I am sure the view overlooking the river when it's not frozen would be great.

We joined in on three activities, ice fishing, Northern lights by the Fell and searching for Nirthern lights with reindeer. We were lucky on second attempt to see the aurora. It's best you time it for a moonless night but there is no fursntee you will see it. On the first night there was thick cloud cover but we could see very strong aurora moving above the clouds. Even the snow was lit up. Wood cabins are excellent. As some one else mentioned,10 Logi is the last and in an ideal position. Teno river below was frozen at the time we were there. Wonderful experience in subzero temperatures.

One of the most beautiful places I´ve seen in my life. The hotel was wonderful, the people who atended us were friendly and helpful. It was like being inside a postcard. I would go back there happily.

Holiday Village Valle has great package deals that include room, meals, and activities. We did the Slow Down Utsjoki package which included guided snow showing, a 20k sled dog ride, a sleigh ride pulled by reindeer, a trip into town to look around and use of the snow shoes, cross country skis, and kick sleds during free time. We also added 3 optional night time activities which were worth the money since our main goal in going there was to see the aurora borealis. We saw the aurora 2 of the 5 nights we stayed in Utsjoki. Henry was the guide we interacted with most, but everyone we dealt with there was helpful and informative. Food at the restaurant was great. Breakfast and lunch we're served buffet style and dinner was served plated. There were also snacks included with every activity. This place might be too far off the beaten path for some people but I loved it. Also, the chances of seeing the aurora are greater if you are in a less light polluted area. When you compare a large resort are like Rovanemi to Utsjoki on a dark sky map Utsjoki is the clear winner. I also appreciate having the more personalized service you just can't find at a large resort.

This trip was on my Bucket list. Absolutely nothing to fault here except perhaps next time I would be looking to travel from Manchester to Ivalo (the travel from Heathrow to Helsinki to Ivalo was slightly too long). Met a great set of people. Staff were enthusiastic, kind and always helpful. You can tell that they were proud of their heritage and keen to share it with us. The restaurant served excellent local cuisine. One of meals was served in a traditional Sami tent and cooked over a fire. We had done a number of scheduled activities: husky and reindeer safaris, cross country skiing and a visit to the historical sites. On our free time we hiked the hills on snowshoes, sledded into town (a good distance away) took pictures of the Sami bridge separating Norway and Finland. The northern lights were strongest on New Year's Eve which was perfect timing. Looking to visit again in the summer to experience the same landscape in a different setting. A bucket list destination in my opinion.

Having decided to do something 'different' this year at New Year we booked a 6 day trip to a bucket list destination of Finland to not just celebrate NY but also hopefully to see the Northern Lights and experience some of the adventures most people only talk about and Henri and his team at Holiday Village Valle certainly delivered everything we hoped for an more!
It's a bit of a trek to get from UK to Utsjoki with an initial flight to Helsinki followed by another 1.5 hours to Ivalo airport so in total with a short delay on the second flight the whole journey took around 9 hours but even arriving around 2am we immediately experienced the chilling cold and amazing snowy scenes (considering it is effectively night for the whole day arriving at night was no big deal! There is around 3 hours of light night each day but you don't see the sun at all which is quite different from the usual holiday destinations)
From our first morning all our excursions and activities ran without a hitch, all outer clothing is provided and despite temps only being around -15 at their lowest (it was -30 the week before and again next week!) we never felt cold and could explore and enjoy without ever feeling uncomfortable. We did cross country skiing, travelled across the border to Norway for husky sledding (definitely the best part of the trip for me) reindeer sleigh ride through the forest and learned about Sami culture and experienced some of the more traditional aspects of Henri and his family's way of life which was fantastic. We also took a day trip to Imari to go snowmobiling and visited the local museum which was much more interesting than I think either I or our teenage boys were expecting!!
The accommodation was excellent (we had a cabin but the new hotel rooms were well reported on too) and if you want it the wifi works well should you feel the need to stay in touch etc
The Deatnu restaurant on site was great and the Aramis the waiter/barman looked after everyone incredibly well every night and breakfast/lunch was well prepared for all guests
We didn't get to the experience all activities but we were able to use any equipment we wanted like skis, sleds, snowshoes whenever we wanted to explore on our own
The Norther lights were visible on a number of nights and actually got stronger each night up to NYE when they put on their best display of all which was perfect timing.
NYE is as extra special as in addition to a great dinner and music and dancing we had fireworks, lantern lighting and traditional melting of tin to predict your next year's future. After celebrating at Midnight we then crossed the Tenu river to experience New Year all over again in Norway an hour later (and then of course our UK NY an hour after that!)
Honestly we could not have asked for more, yes it is a very different holiday from anything you will have likely done before but don't hesitate to do it once in your life as you will never experience anything like it again and with a great team led by Henri looking after you (and in our case a great bunch of fellow guests too) it was something we will never forget

Hello! Yes, we have on list also some glutein free serving
Hi there!
Everything is possible up here. Most challenning part might be fisrt 100 kilometer from Utsjoki to Ivalo. Anyway it so early winter and usually we get bad snowstorms in february so i believe you will have good roads on that time. Thought i still recommend to leave in morning. You need one hour for check in to flight and three hours for driving just in case if something happens on the road.
Hello Wendy, I think you already sent a message for us via email, but anyway i will answer in here aswell so everyone else also can read answer.
We are full booked on those dates unfortunately.
You will find our website from company's info. There is information about our tourpackages, activities, accommodation and foodservices.
Nearest airport is in Ivalo, 170 kilometers from Utsjoki. Second is in Kirkenes in Norway, 220 kilometers from Utsjoki.
If you book a tourpackage airport transfers are included. In other cases i recommend to check public transportations.
We also provide private airport transfers for private groups. Send us an email and ask offer.
I hope there was any help for you. Don't hesitate to take contact for further information.
Best regards,
Henry Valle
