Great location at Teno river with great views to the fells across the river in Norway. New, clean, fairly big rooms, with big bathrooms. All rooms have big windows and great views to the river. Good quality restaurant, with also nice views and a big terrace (for alfresco dining on warm sunny days). Food is fresh - try out the local salmon if on the menu (fished by the owner from Teno). The owners can organize different day trips / outings. Take a boat ride on Teno, rent canoes or fat bikes. They also have guides, who can accompany you if you don't want to go to the river or fells by yourself. Ask also for a guided tour to Sallivaara, the reindeer herding village about 10 km south of Utsjoki centre. To experience Utsjoki, watch our video on Youtube: Susa and Masa around the world

We have spent our new year vacation here with my friend. It was our first trevel to Finnland and I must say it is the best choice to go to Utsjoki Holliday Village. The transfer from airport was on time and last apprx. 3,5 hours. The hotel owners have met us themselves with a glass of sect and have gave us all information that we needed to have about our aktivities during the week. We have lived in a cabin (house) with our own sauna, fireplace, two bedrooms and a kitchen corner. The only thing that was uncomfortable is that they have no double beds, but it was possible to put two separate beds together. The territory consist of the restaurant were we have always had our meals, hotel building, separate cabins (houses) and a small building with all necessary equipment.
The nature around is very beautiful and inspirative. There is a salmon river direkt on the territory, you can have a walk along it. The place is very silent at all, only forest with rendeer farm is not far away and also a small village with supermarket and church 5 km from there.
We have got 2 guides who provided us with all equipment we need and information, also they were together with us during some activities. The food in the resraurant is on a good level, every day there have different menus, it was nice to have a tasty salmon there and rendeer meat. The Holiday Village has a family concept, you can feel it already on the first day. The owners spend time with guests with pleasure and tell very interesting stories about their culture and region. There are pretty enough possible activities you can book for every day, the best ones for us were the husky tour and reindeer safari. The dinner in a hut was also very cozy.

We wanted to see the Northern Lights so we headed to the northern most place we could in Finland! We came to Utsjoki and we checked into an amazing little cabin with 2 bedrooms that fit 4 easily, a great living space and a bathroom with a sauna! The food is amazing, the guides are helpful and engaging, and the owner is really wonderful. I highly recommend staying here and if you are here in the winter do the Sami dinner experience. It is amazing learning about the culture over such tasty food.

We were there for Midsummer and we were a bit suprise for the level of services we got, rather poor.
It´s clear that the place during winter is full of people, with plenty of activities to do and organised. In the summer, that was not the case.
We had a B&B accomodation for 3 nights, and we had to litterally beg the breakfast...
No one to ask for recomendations on what to do, or activities organised, as the girl at the restaurannt was not helpful at all (when she was there).
Probably we arrived in the middle of their holidays, but again if you have a place like this a minimum of organisation is requested.
then eventually having the coffee surrounded by rendeers is very nice, but you need to get the coffe!

So warm welcome, so warm stay... small but very modern hotel by the mighty Teno -river. Even Fishing is now prohibited this year, there was plenty of things to do. The Deatnu -restaurant offered so tasty gourmet from Lapland, that will never vanish... Strong recommendation!

Lapland theme with class and style sums this place up pretty well. And of course the picturesque views from the room and restaurant were the icing on the cake. I’m pretty sure this is the nicest place for many many kilometers.

We stayed in the small 12 room hotel, which was comfortable, clean, pretty and modern. The place also has cabins, but I don’t know what they are like.

Breakfast was simple but good and dinner was very nice. I would stay and eat here again.

Remote but worth the trip. Scenery is spectacular. Accommodations excellent in true Finnish style: comfortable, modern and unencumbered. The staff were extremely helpful and attentive. The food was excellent. There was lots to do. We had a lot to do. It was a very welcome change of scenery. Would do it again. Do bring warm clothes in the winter!

The cottage is tidy and cozy and very close to Teno river. The view is fantastic. It is a really peaceful view and the river is different every day. It is nice to watch it changing every day. We warmly recommend these cottages.

I had a great week at Poronpurijat, Utsjoki. This was my first trip to Europe and to Finland. I chose to spend a week at Utsjoki to photograph Aurora Borealis. I got to know of this location and Henry Valle from the website, http://www.onlyinlapland.com/meetthelocals/local/734/

Henry was most responsive. I was lucky to have got to this place when early snow gave a glimpse of winter in late autumn itself. From day 1 of the trip day 5, I got great guidance about the place, its history, environmental aspects, energy demands, salmon fishing, sami culture, flora & fauna, reindeer, shopping etc.

I was very well looked after by Henry. I was provided required snow clothing to manage the cold. I went from 30 deg cel in Bangalore, India to minus 10 at Utsjoki. The cottage was exceptionally well maintained. Henry stopped by the local grocery store while driving from Ivalo to Utsjoki and helped me in picking up the required food items.

Henry engaged me well with packed day activities. I also visited Nuorgam, EU's northern most town for selfie. I enjoyed ice fishing and driving through arctic tundra on snow bike.

Every night, soon after dinner Henry took me to various corners of the town to witness aurora borealis. I must have been extremely lucky to have seen the northern lights all 4 nights I stayed at the Poronpurijat cottage - set at the banks of the Teno river famous for salmon fishing in summer (was frozen during my stay). This is once in a life time opportunity to experience and photograph the dancing northern lights.

Big thanks to Henry and his team for unforgettable memories of life time.

Holiday Village Valle is the perfect holiday resort to go to if you are looking for a complete winter experience. From winter sports to catching the aurora borealis, or simply enjoying the closeness to the quiet tranquil nature, you can get to experience it here.

Run by an excellent family team compromising of Henry, Erik, Anne and supported by others like Henri and Aramis, the entire crew made sure we were in good hands from the moment we arrived till our departure.

The holiday village is located strategically next to the River Teno, which was nice and frozen and provided the perfect spot for our winter skiing activities. We stayed in a newly built hotel (first guests!!) which was well equipped with all the modern facilities and had a perfect view of River Teno. Families can opt to stay in the beautiful cabin houses also situated along Teno. Across the river were the mountains of Norway. How amazing is that! All in all they form a beautiful scenery one can only imagine!

Best of all, the aurora borealis were visible from the village itself. We saw the lights 3 out of 5 nights in our stay. What an amazing feeling! A short walk uphill brings us to a high vantage point where one can also observe the lights. Henry, being ever so attentive, even switched off the extra lights and street lamps so that the Northern lights were more visible on our cameras.

We opted for a 6 night package which had all the essentials of a winter wonderland trip. These included skiing, husky rides, reindeer feeding and reindeer sleigh rides, and the sharing and learning of the precious Sami culture and language. All were rather new activities for us living in the cities, but the team took great care of us at every point in time.

We had an unforgettable traditional Sami dinner of reindeer, potatoes and lingonberries and 'squeaky cheese and cloudberries' in a traditional hut, and learnt about Sami culture, clothing and Henry even sang for us to help us call forth the Northern lights.

All equipment we wore and used were kindly provided by the resort, they include the snow suits that were hardy and kept us warm, boots that were sturdy and allowed us to walk on the thick snow, hats, gloves, socks, everything! Ski equipment and snow shoes were also provided.

The pace was generally comfortable with one or two main activities a day. There were optional tours to choose from if one was feeling adventurous. We chose the snowmobile pulled sleigh up into the mountains, snow shoe hiking in the forest and northern lights chasing by car. All were reasonably priced.

I especially enjoyed the snowmobile experience up in the mountains, it was snowing heavily that day and it was such an adventure and experience when we stopped in the big wilderness, in between two big mountains, as Henry explains more about the place and Sami culture. We then set up an open fire in the wilderness, and It was relaxing and calm to watch the flames dance and listen to the fire, as we marvel at the surroundings and the power of nature around us.

The other optional activity of snow shoeing involved a tranquil walk in the forest. We saw the footprints of foxes, moose, reindeer and squirrels. For someone that comes from the city, it was an amazing and calming experience to walk on the soft snow and listen to the silence around us. I was rather slow and clumsy, and guide Anne was patient and helpful and did her best to push me up the slopes!

For all the outdoor activities, we were treated how the Sami people made fires and gathered round to drink hot berry juice and chat and rest.

Restaurant Deatnu was where we had most of our meals and New Year's dinner. Bartender and lead waiter Aramis was attentive and efficient, and took care of all our needs. The food was excellent, consisting of reindeer, beef, fish. We ate heartily and refuelled well for activities. We also enjoyed the alcohol concoctions of vodka and rum drinks, and Henry's recommendation of honey, tea (the tea was called Tiger's Daydream) and rum. They were especially good after a cold day outside!!

A key highlight of the trip involved us doing a New Year's countdown twice. Thanks to its strategic location, we first had a countdown (with live music and champagne) at Restaurant Deatnu, and then crossed the river to Norway where we did the countdown again (Norway is 1 hour behind) right on River Teno. What an unforgettable experience!

Through our interactions with our hosts in the last few days, we learnt to respect and enjoy nature and appreciate how beautiful the place was and how lucky we were to be there. The air was clean and the water delicious. We can really feel how much our hosts love and respect all parts of nature around them, and how proud they were to share the Sami culture and lifestyle with us.

Many thanks to Henry, who was attentive to every guest, to Erik, who is the reindeer whisperer and for sharing with us beautiful stories of the reindeers, and to Aramis who took care of our meals, Henri who took us skiing and Northern lights chasing, Anne who took us snow shoe-ing.

I had a truly unforgettable experience and felt the warmth from all of you. I'd definitely be back again one day!

Hi there! Everything is possible up here. Most challenning part might be fisrt 100 kilometer from Utsjoki to Ivalo. Anyway it so early winter and usually we get bad snowstorms in february so i believe you will have good roads on that time. Thought i still recommend to leave in morning. You need one hour for check in to flight and three hours for driving just in case if something happens on the road.
