Not for everyone, but nice place. Rooms add to a certain "experience". Definitely would be great with a pool. Beach was a 10 minute walk. Owners helped us out of a pickle, wish we we really appreciated. That is the beauty of a small place like this, the owners get to know you and try to help you out.

Really lovely place. The accommodation is much nicer than the photos on the web site suggest and a lot of thought has been put into it. Fantastic breakfasts and highly recommend having an evening meal there, Karen's cooking is lovely. Roy and Karen are great fun and couldn't have done more to make our stay special. Great location for beaches...

My boyfriend and I stayed at Emplame after traveling for almost 6 months between Nicaragua and Guatemala. We experienced everything in Central America from bucket showers to 5 star resorts. Frequently we found that money didn't matter when it came to customer service and more than not, we dealt with unfriendly, flippant people. It being the end of our trip...

We had a great stay. Starting with a warm welcome. Ride through the area by marty. Wonderful breakfast and great room. They had quite a lot of trouble at the time we were arriving (water issues, broken washing machine and broken branches from a tree) but we didnt get to feel any of that except having no water for one...

We had a great stay with Roy and Karen. They are wonderful hosts who were always happy to chat and hang out, but never made it feel like an obligation, either. We had delicious breakfasts everyday (if you've never tried lime juice and honey drizzled over fruit before, you absolutely must), and we had a great dinner with them one...

Our family of four was well taken care of by the gracious hosts. They were thoughtful and attentive; arranged our shuttle from Managua, played games with us at night (entertained our young kids too!) and served delicious breakfasts. The cabana was clean and spacious and the fans effective. If you are realistic about the hot humid weather and that there...

I was in awe the moment I arrived. After spending a little time in the party town of San Juan del Sur, I was relieved to find a quiet gem close to the beach in the jungle. The flora and fauna were amazing, I could have spent my whole time there watching the birds and monkeys doing what birds and...

We thought the room was just OK - there was no door to the bathroom, just a curtain. The location was good - walking distance to a quiet beach and some restaurants. There wasn't really any private outdoor space to just hang out as a couple and the common area was usually occupied by the other guests and the hosts...

Tummy aches from laughing, but tummy smiles from amazing food. Roy and Karen are ideal hosts, with coffee pronto in the morning, and ready with stories, suggestions, solutions...Howler monkeys mingle with morning muses, walking "the hill" to the beach became a treasured workout, by choice, since rides were offered. But please, we don't want this place to change. Go if...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A true nature lover and beach goer treat. Spacious and quiet bamboo cabanas sitting in the jungle canopy above the river showcasing howler monkeys and many varieties of birds and wildlife. Within walking distance of Playa Marsella and Playa Maderas, said to be one of the best surf breaks in Nicaragua. A great place to relax, surf, trek and enjoy the natural beauty that is Nicaragua. We are as close to a nature reserve/eco lodge as can be without going through all the legalities to get the "stamp" of approval. Enjoy personal service and feel like you are at your home away from home. Offering personal service and satisfaction! ... more   less
