2020 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best
Set at the foot of the Slieve Bloom Mountains in the centre of Ireland, Ballyfin is a place of history and romance, of tranquility and great natural beauty. At Ballyfin formality is blended with ease and enjoyment. The house has long been admired as the most lavish Regency mansion in Ireland, and after eight years of restoration, Ballyfin re-opened in May 2011 as a small 5 star country house hotel like no other. It offers the very best of Irish hospitality in the most beautiful surroundings imaginable. Enjoy the splendid interiors decorated with Irish Art and antiques from around the world. With only twenty rooms for the 614 acre estate, it is the perfect place for a break from the stresses of the modern world and provides discretion and privacy like few other destinations. Conceived on a generous scale for receiving guests, Ballyfin combines magnificence and intimacy in its State rooms. From the grandeur of the Saloon at the heart of the house, the eighty-foot library, the sun filled Conservatory which is reached through a secret door hidden in a bookshelf in the library. At Ballyfin, stone walls enclose 614 acres of parkland, a lake and ancient woods, delightful garden buildings, follies and grottoes. Whether you feel like swimming some laps, enjoying some water exercises or simply relaxing, our indoor pool, overlooking the courtyard garden, will be a beautiful space for invigoration and wellbeing. Come and enjoy life!!

This review is long overdue...but the memories are fresh. We went there with our daughter in June 2019 for four days before the pandemic. The whole staff were waiting for us through those massive gates. The grounds, building and hard product are gorgeous taking one back to the high life of old school service...perfection in service, and perfection in hospitality. We were upgraded a couple of levels and that was wonderful. We were busy every day with excursions on sight (from boating, shooting, browsing their library and hikes) that we never left the resort. Small things like supplying us with boots, rain jackets (all high quality), daily biscuits and snacks were done wonderfully. And the staff, very professional yet so friendly...a balance that is not easy to accomplish. Highly recommended.

Stayed here in Oct 21 for the wife birthday. Has to be one of the best boutique hotels in the World. The guest attention, open fires, historical & architectural detail, food is amazing, staff & management with 5 star service levels but personality & charm. The suites are furnished with no expense spared. Lovely chill out pool in cellar, nice walks around grounds. Breakfast was a feast of fresh irish produce. We did not want to leave. Lucky to stay just before Halloween lockdown. A bright highlight in a dark year. Thank you Ballyfin.

I recently stayed in the wonderful Adare Manor and a guest asked me there: "What sets this place apart from Ballyfin?" All I could think to say was: "It was one of the most joyous and exclusive experiences of my life...!" - There is nothing there that was not on point! Your complete and utter comfort is taken into consideration so much... that you will be made feel as though you almost own the demesne. I could not recommend this highly enough, it is certainly the best place I have ever stayed in in Ireland!

Had a splendid weekend in Ballyfin Demesne. Hotel is absolutely stunning and staff are professional and courteous. I cannot find one fault with this place. The only downside is that we had to leave at the end of our stay. They have thought of everything here from golf carts to get around the impressive grounds to a romantic picnic lodge with lovely views as well as complimentary sticked fridge in the suite. I can see why this beautiful place has won so many awards. We will definitely be back. Thank you for a special weekend

We recently had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful hotel , and I must say it’s had made a lasting impression on us. The hotel is located on the foothills of the magnificent slieve bloom mountain , in the beautiful co Laois. When you entering the main gate to to House and you drive along the Demesne, in the beautiful kept grounds you know you are in someplace very special. But when the house comes into view , looking down on the beautiful lake and countryside , it takes your breath away. We were warmly welcomed by the very capable and most courteous hotel manager Damien and his excellent team of staff who made our stay a most memorable one . Refreshments were quickly offered and a lovely touch was the warm cloth to use. We were give a very informative tour of the ground floor reception rooms before we checked into our spectacular bed rooms which can only be described as sheer opulence. The attention to detail was exemplary . Every little detail was taken care of in regards to customer comfort. The standard of accommodation is truly exceptional . We returned down to the magnificently restored glass pavilion, with its imposing outside cascading water feature, which is a most impressive feature as you sit having lunch in this picture perfect setting. Lunch was absolutely superb beautifully served with a huge emphasis on ingredients from the hotel garden. Accompanied by superb service and genuine hospitality. After lunch we took the bikes out to cycle the superb grounds and work off the beautiful lunch. We were given our map and off we took . We thoroughly enjoyed our tour and tried to take in our superb surroundings, with so much to see and do we spend hours just peddling our bikes around. We enjoyed meeting the gardener who took time out to chat and it Evident they take enormous pride in their work as the ground are impeccable. We really enjoyed the Walled vegetable and flower garden it was just fabulous and the orchard was also lovely and the attention to detail was evident where ever we went. We returned our bikes ,and we decided to view the different rooms in the lobby of the house . Each and every room has been Carefully and painstaking restored to its unique and charming original state. In addition to all its characteristics and furnishings present beautifully in each room which maintains a wonderful sense of elegance and a beautiful feeling of opulence. The owners have really embraced this restoration project with huge vision and are truly wordy of been the Custodians of this remarkable Hotel and sharing it with the guests who also can appreciated this remarkable labour of love . Before dinner we came back down had a drink in the library which was just lovely and relaxing , we were also given the menus and was full explained on the dishes that was been served that evening, again a massive influence on local and home grown produce, which later was evident in the meal we thoroughly enjoyed. Next morning for breakfast was equivalent all locally sourced food with a wonderful selection to choose from, and the attention to customer satisfaction was Priority. We all concurred the hotel and its superb team of staff make it so comfortable and it’s impressive how they can incorporate the extremely high level of standards with such Ease and pleasure to making sure you feel as your part of the family. On our departure we were given a lovely picnic Box which I thought was a lovely touch and greatly appreciated while we were travelling later . Overall I will always remember our magnificent stay in Ballyfin , hopefully we certainly will return, and I want to take this opportunity to especially thank Damien and the tremendous team of staff for making our stay such a most memorable one . Continued success to you all, and most importantly the wonderful owners with the vision and knowledge to get this project to one of the top hotels in the world.
