Set at the foot of the Slieve Bloom Mountains in the centre of Ireland, Ballyfin is a place of history and romance, of tranquility and great natural beauty. At Ballyfin formality is blended with ease and enjoyment. The house has long been admired as the most lavish Regency mansion in Ireland, and after eight years of restoration, Ballyfin re-opened in May 2011 as a small 5 star country house hotel like no other. It offers the very best of Irish hospitality in the most beautiful surroundings imaginable. Enjoy the splendid interiors decorated with Irish Art and antiques from around the world. With only twenty rooms for the 614 acre estate, it is the perfect place for a break from the stresses of the modern world and provides discretion and privacy like few other destinations. Conceived on a generous scale for receiving guests, Ballyfin combines magnificence and intimacy in its State rooms. From the grandeur of the Saloon at the heart of the house, the eighty-foot library, the sun filled Conservatory which is reached through a secret door hidden in a bookshelf in the library. At Ballyfin, stone walls enclose 614 acres of parkland, a lake and ancient woods, delightful garden buildings, follies and grottoes. Whether you feel like swimming some laps, enjoying some water exercises or simply relaxing, our indoor pool, overlooking the courtyard garden, will be a beautiful space for invigoration and wellbeing. Come and enjoy life!!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My bride and I have had the blessing of traveling to some incredible places around the globe over the last 38 years. We have stayed at some of the finest properties but Ballyfin Demesne exceeded them all! If you have ever had the desire or dream to stay at Ballyfin - don't wait! There is a bit of a magical experience in the elegance of all that the staff does from the moment you arrive - to the moment you depart. This stay brought us some rest and relaxation that was uniquely needed at this time in our lives. You will be grateful you went!!

This is a wonderful place filled with beautiful antiques, paintings and books. We loved every minute and didn't want to leave this very special house. The glass of champagne in the hall on arrival, the delicious food, the vigorous jacuzzi, the cups of tea and puzzles in the library, the walk in the walled garden and the fabulous four-poster bed are all highlights.

Ballyfin is a destination to be experienced, where attention to detail and the beauty of the estate is second to none. The warmth of staff shines through making it a thoroughly welcoming venue despite the Downtown architectural feel. A short trip which will remain with us for a long long time. Simply superb & thank you to all involved.

Stayed for two nights on this property and the experience was truly amazing, the house has been brought back to its former glory and the level of detail was truly inspiring. The staff were absolutely perfect and could not do enough for us during our stay. Thanks to all at the hotel especially the butlers who kept us entertained and fires burning throughout the property.

Our stay at Ballyfin was to celebrate a number of combined personal milestone events and it was definitely worth the wait! We booked a Relaxation Package for one night and from the moment we arrived, to when we left, we were really well looked after by all of the staff. It was lovely to hand over the car keys and be greeted with a glass of champagne by Lorraine, who was very welcoming as she gave us a brief tour of the house before we had lunch in the orangerie. The emphasis is on treating the house as your own and nothing was any bother. Peter, the hotel manager, was a genial host and we enjoyed our chats with him throughout our stay. We had a very interesting tour of the house with Kevin, one of the butlers, in the afternoon and headed off to explore the estate grounds on our own in a golf buggy afterwards. One of the other guests had highly recommended the horse drawn carriage ride but the timing just didn't work for us unfortunately. We had pre(and post)-dinner drinks in the Library and dinner in the State Room. While the food overall was delicious, we did find the starters on the a la carte menu a bit limiting (pork consommé or smoked eel) but that was more due to our own personal tastes and it wasn't a problem to pick a starter from the vegetarian menu instead. We took a dip the next morning in the pool and jacuzzi and enjoyed a leisurely breakfast before heading to the spa for our treatments. I had a facial with Audrey and my husband had a massage with Deirdre and they were the perfect way to end our stay in Ballyfin.
