Set at the foot of the Slieve Bloom Mountains in the centre of Ireland, Ballyfin is a place of history and romance, of tranquility and great natural beauty. At Ballyfin formality is blended with ease and enjoyment. The house has long been admired as the most lavish Regency mansion in Ireland, and after eight years of restoration, Ballyfin re-opened in May 2011 as a small 5 star country house hotel like no other. It offers the very best of Irish hospitality in the most beautiful surroundings imaginable. Enjoy the splendid interiors decorated with Irish Art and antiques from around the world. With only twenty rooms for the 614 acre estate, it is the perfect place for a break from the stresses of the modern world and provides discretion and privacy like few other destinations. Conceived on a generous scale for receiving guests, Ballyfin combines magnificence and intimacy in its State rooms. From the grandeur of the Saloon at the heart of the house, the eighty-foot library, the sun filled Conservatory which is reached through a secret door hidden in a bookshelf in the library. At Ballyfin, stone walls enclose 614 acres of parkland, a lake and ancient woods, delightful garden buildings, follies and grottoes. Whether you feel like swimming some laps, enjoying some water exercises or simply relaxing, our indoor pool, overlooking the courtyard garden, will be a beautiful space for invigoration and wellbeing. Come and enjoy life!!

Ballyfin is one of the two best hotels I have ever visited in the world...the other is in South Africa. The property itself is breathtaking. It is very intimate....only about 20 rooms and each is individually decorated. The public spaces never feel crowded. It feels like you really are at a private country estate. We are a health issue while there and the staff was exceptional on helping us and making sure all was well. The General Manager was very kind and obviously sets the tone for the staff. We look forward to a return trip.

Dreams of a hotel like this came true. We drove up the private drive to find a staff of five waiting to greet us and take our bags. The interior of the hotel was beautiful. The dining areas, the food, and the service were outstanding. Our room was phenomenal. We had a canopy bed, a fireplace with a sitting area, an amazing view and even a Dyson hair dryer. There was a 4:00 tour of the interior of the hotel. It took about an hour and it was wonderful. In order to get around the property golf carts were available for us to drive anywhere we wanted. Upon departure we were given a box of cookies and apples to snack on. It was a wonderful place to celebrate our 39th anniversary.

This was our 2nd visit to Ballyfin and it will not be our last! Last time I reviewed Ballyfin, the title was Downton Abbey on Steroids, that has not changed. Maybe a better way to describe Ballyfin, is it feels like your rich friend gave you the keys to his mansion for a few days. I can't say enough about the property, food, rooms, and the outstanding staff. We had an awesome wine tasting with Ian, toured the property with Joel, chats with Pat and Eric. One of the highlights was air guns and archery with Glen! I don't think we ever laughed that much. He was a great guide with an awesome sense of humor and made my birthday very memorable! After reading my review from 9 years ago, I also mentioned Glen, so he must be doing something right! Can't wait for our next visit! Thank you Ballyfin!

Alluding is truly special. The two day stay was a total experience of serene perfection - the food staff grounds house room pool gym etc were all beyond 10:10. We've already, whilst there, booked 3 nights back in December Whichever room you stay you get the Ballyfin experience. Particular staff shout out to - Declan Chloe Lorraine Eric Mili Clare, not to mention the resident gardener and florist Stacey ( her arrangements are insane ) .... but everyone we came into contact with were wonderful We had the full board food booking and every meal was also exquisite Well done all there and see you in December

My husband and I visitied this exquisite hotel for the first time for our 10th wedding anniversary in May 2022, this venue has been on my wish list for a while. We were not disapointed! The staff, house itself and the location are sublime. It's a relaxed 5 star experience which is a delicate balance to strike, but Ballyfin does it perfectly. We flew in to the house (as it was a special occasion) and we were met with the amazing staff who transported us by golf buggy to the front entrance. We had a glass of champagne on arrival, followed by a wonderful lunch in the conservatory. After lunch we were shown to our room which was beautiful. Traditional interiors, filled with antiques and contemporary additions which complimented the decor wonderfully. It overlooked the lake, right over the front entrance of the house which gave us a wonderful view. The room had a lovely large bathroom which was luxurious with traditional tasteful touches. A very small minus point was a slightly mis matched, poor performing shower door & the lack of high end tolietries (a very minor gripe though). Food was exquisite, melt in the mouth fine dining! Loved it. Terrific French sommelier on hand for wine queries or requests! I can honestly say this Hotel really gets the "customer experience" from start to finish and it does it in and easy unpretentious way! In summary, staff amazing, venue amazing! This place has ruined me for any other five star experience in Ireland as this is now the standard I measure all the others by and in my opinion there is no comparison! It's Ballyfin all the way! Planning my next visit already! Love Love Love it!

If you want to experience old country house living in the midlands of Ireland you will have to stay at Ballyfin, first you will wonder where the place is and how to get in, the gate is a bit an adventure to find, once you ring the bell the gates will open and the drive up to the mention is beautiful until you come around the bend and see Ballifyn and the staff awaiting for you in front, right from the beginning you feel welcomed. After a glass of champagne we went to our room and it is exactly like in the pictures you see online, the Sir Charles Coote Room comes with a lot of history as every room and the whole estate, the bathroom and Lady Caroline’s bath was my favorite part, first I walked into the bathroom I was wondering how cold it will be with the old stone floor, but there was no money spared during the renovations to make it perfectly comfortable with floor heating and original bathroom tab’s and toilet from England, you will notice this in the whole Estate, the owner spared no cost to get the building back to it,s old glory, maybe even better. We also enjoyed the activities with clay pitching shooting, it,s a great experience if you never shoot before, and the staff is so connected with the estate, doesn’t matter if you ask for an route to walk or doing the shooting, everyone will tell you a bit more history about the building and their connection to it, what is great and very interesting. The restaurant is another good reason to stay here, the food is innovative but at the same time traditional local sourced food, the friendly staff will give you all the details where the food was sourced from all the local butcher and bakers or the own vegetable and fruit gardens. It’s the small things that makes the difference, such ads when we got back from our first night dinner we found our boots beside the bed, I was lucky and had chocolate in mine, where my husband found coal in his ;) It was the weekend os St. Nicolaus we stayed and the tradition in Germany is, if you have been naughty you get coal, that was so cute. Would I come back? Definitely, I plan already our next stay Value for money? It is pricy bud worth it

Enjoyed every moment in this outstanding hotel. The family who brought this manor house back to life deserve the thanks of the nation. The attention to detail by the staff is something to behold. Sorry I did not get all the names, Colleen who met us on arrival, Philip, Tommy, Mari and Colleen in the dining room. Lionel (for the carriage ride and all the other duties he performed so well) and the kindness of the housekeeper. The food was exceptional. We cannot wait to return for the bluebells in April\May. We are not a bit surprised to find it was voted best hotel in the world. The swimming pool is 1.4 metres.

We went with friends here a few months back and came away with mixed feelings. The place is beautiful and excellently restored. The highlight for us was the staff; they are predominantly local and know the history of the place inside out- the tour was excellent. They are up for some fun which was refreshing. We had a champagne picnic on the grounds during the day, which was fantastic fun....food was ok...and this is where the 'but' comes in. Overall we were left, well to be honest, disappointed with the food at Ballyfinn. We went for dinner and the food was uneventful and we were really looking forward to it and wanted it to be great. We have eaten in lots of really good hotels and restaurant's around the world and this, for us, was Ballyfinn's Achilles heel. The food was pleasant for sure...but did any of us come away speaking about how good it was...unfortunately not. Especially given the cost of everything here...when high prices are being charged, everything else needs to match it. One small thing, but it seemed very odd to us....there was all this grandeur and restoration, and in our room there were two vases mounted on the wall...both made of Styrofoam!!!...Really Ballyfinn...fake ornaments, not a great look and cheapened the overall feel somewhat. But...is it worth visit...yes...for sure....but the real strength here is the staff...they make it.

‘Far from the madding crowd’ lies this architectural gem, an oasis of luxury and calm! We spent one night here for a special birthday. Arriving at the gates on a small country road you press to announce your arrival and drive up the very long avenue and turn a bend to see the house in full splendour! On the step are 4 staff to greet you and there isn’t another car to be seen. A warm friendly irish welcome awaits as they take your luggage and drive your car away from the house. We were offered champagne and then decided to have lunch in the ornate dining room but at a leisurely pace with friendly service. Later we went of out rooms where our bags had been taken. Each room is carefully laid out with furniture and tapestry fitting the age of the house. An informative, lively and entertaining tour of the house takes place each day followed by pre dinner drinks and a fantastic tasting menu is on offer. The estate is vast (600 Acres) and not a golf club in site though there are golf buggies available to explore the grounds! A word of praise for the staff, the majority of whom live locally. There is full attention but no intrusion and nothing is too much to ask. They are all friendly and create an ‘at home’ atmosphere. For a:special occasion I cannot think of a better location anywhere!. Thank you all at Ballyfin for making our special event memorable.

Our last stop on a magical anniversary trip to Ireland, Ballyfin exceeded all our expectations! The service was exceptional (e.g. staff had noted that I liked sparkling while my spouse preferred still at meals). Grounds are a real treat and we tooled around the gorgeous property to see everything in an electric golf cart, seeing the lake, the various buildings on the property, etc. The walled garden is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen, and we dined at dinner (drinks beforehand in the library) eating some of the walled garden's delicious fruits and vegetables. Staff prepared a packed breakfast for our early morning departure. With less than 25 rooms, the staff treated us as special guests (the Manager came by to say hi while we were having drinks before dinner). I look forward to visiting again! Thank you Ballyfin!
