We booked this Castle for Exclusive use over Christmas 2020. We booked and paid a substantial deposit well over a year previously. We ( just two of us) in October 202 to check that everything was in order, , liked the place very much, and the managers seemed competent. Introduced us to a chef to cater for us as we would be 12. Paid him a deposit as well. Checked out all in the area for Children and adults alike. Understandably 2020, was a difficult year, and after our November Lock down, when it looked like all systems go, we contacted ABBEY, the manageress, and this is when she became difficult. She Ummed and Ahhed. She did not get back to us, so twice we had to call her and then she said, Well I don't think so. Having spent a considerable time and effort sourcing this property for a special occasion, understandably we were more than annoyed, Sleeper train for 12 had been booked and paid for, along with return flights and hire cars. As is happened Scotland closed it borders and families in England could not meet over Christmas. However my objection is the Complete unprofessionalism of the manager and her husband and for that reason alone I would not recommend anyone to visit.…
We had a couple from Australia who while touring with us felt it was essential to stay in a castle at least one night. Barcaldine castle was a great choice at a good rate and even though we turned up very late, there were no issues whatsoever. We will be using Barcaldine again in the future and you should too.
Stayed here in October and we both loved our stay. Very Covid conscious so no 'meet and greet' but a note left inside the front door with instructions of how to find your room and feel at home. I think i actually preferred this as it was exciting exploring the castle yourself and making yourself at home. A luxurious B&B with gorgeous main hall and open fire or smaller reading room, board games, excellent breakfast, large bedrooms stunning views of the loch and surrounding countryside. I can't praise this beautiful, atmospheric B&B high enough. Loved every minute.
We spent 3 nights here in mid September 2020 and really enjoyed our visit. Very Covid conscious throughout and a very personal service by the wonderful hosts Abbie & Daniel. It is a luxurious B&B, with a fabulous choice of breakfast, large bed rooms, a lovely lounge and parlour to relax in the evenings, with a real fire - very atmospheric with views of the loch and surrounding countryside. And a decanter of malt whisky for a "wee dram" left in the lounge for a night cap. It is not the cheapest of B&B's but the atmosphere, service and uniqueness of the castle - it is well worth a stay here.
Barcaldine Castle is advertised as a luxury B&B, and it is certainly that! The room was very comfortable with plush bedding and all in keeping with the property. The shower in the cupboard was a bit of a surprise, but worked well. Breakfast was exceptional and will definitely keep you going until lunch time (and maybe even tea time!). The castle is so atmospheric and interesting to explore. We didn't experience any ghostly activity, but the stories we heard certainly gave me goosebumps! The hosts were wonderful - friendly and informative and cook a mean brekky! It's a little pricey, so more of a treat than an every day hotel, but definitely worth it :-)
