We stayed here while we were on our way to Italy. A gorgeous place to stay with a lot of interesting history. The cuisine was exceptional and the owners were really kind and helpful. Would definitely recommend a stop at this unique place.

A real pleasure. Really good and friendly service. We will definitely change our usual stay in Domodossola for this place. A professional service with a personal touch. English, French, Italian and German spoken. What else can you ask for. Additionally amazing food.

It's been now many times that we come here to stay overnight during our journey down south and its always a pleasure: Fabienne and Patrick are running the hotel and restaurant and they are a wonderful, happy and helpful couple. The rooms are very clean and all of them are different and unique with raw stone left on its walls to give it a special charm and there is free wifi in the room; the food at the restaurant is freshly prepared by Fabienne, very tasty, we ordered this time risotto, soup of the day, home made ravioli etc and it was delicious. We're looking forward to our next stay, thank you!

I am reviewing the restaurant only as we did not stay in the hotel. We had a wonderful lunch here. The views were awesome. As the weather had been rainy, we had a wonderful perspective of the waterfalls across the valley. I almost ordered a second bowl of mushroom soup it was so good. But I am glad that I saved room for dessert. We had several at our table and I tasted them all. Though the staff did not speak English, they tried and succeeded in giving excellent service.

The tower building which was half demolished by a dramatic landslide in 2000 was beautifully restored, successfully mixing modern glass and concrete with century old walls and opened as a hotel with conference facilities. Rooms are named after smugglers or smuggling tracks, adding to the atmosphere. We had a corner room on the customs side - Gondo is on a main thorough fare from Switzerland into Italy. Whilst I had been worried about the noise of trucks disturbing us, this was not at all the case. On the other hand, when opening the window giving onto the opposite side of the ravine-like valley, we could hear the waterfall which only added to the atmosphere. The perfect place to stop overnight.

Very recently I organised a Corporate off-site for 20 Sr Executives in Gondo and we stayed in the Stockalperturm Hotel. The conference room is excellent, with all technology one needs for presentations and meetings. Their are 11 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and a dormitory(sleeps 10), which are all clean and very comfortable. It is not a place one normally would think of staying, right on the border of Switzerland and Italy, however, that is exactly the charm of this tiny border place. Antonio and his staff went out of their way to make everyone feel comfortable, the rooms were clean and the food was excellent. The architectural design is minimalist after the landslide which destructed half the building in 2001 and makes it a very memorable place to stay. Around Gondo there is much to see and experience, ranging from Gold panning in the Gondo river, to mountain activities such as canyoning, rock/climbing climbing, Via Ferrata's and beautiful hiking routes in the Zwischbergen Valley, starting right opposite the Hotel. As it's on the border, an added benefit is being able to nip into Italy. One night we had dinner in restaurant Stella in Domodossola, which was outstanding, ave price Euro 55 per head, with 1 * (Michelin) quality. Overall the Stockalperturm in Gondo is a nice base for several days of exploring the mountains in the Wallis region.

I've been there cause of a long travel. Passing by, I decided to stop there. It's near Italy, in a very little town. The food was very good and the owners (new, coming from Portugal), are discrete. The room was clean and quiet, in spite of the proximity to the highway of Simplon. I recommend this elegant structure (inside also has a delightful local museum of gold) at all. seems a bit 'to go back in time between these walls.

This place is just fantastic. After the historic tower was terribly hit by a mudslide ten years ago, they re-built the building with beautiful style. Excellent modern architecture meets historic walls - just amazing. Beautiful rooms with beautiful design (okay, the TV could be a bit nicer and bigger but who cares). Super friendly staff. A nice breakfast in the stylish dining room. Only criticism: The food at the restaurant was not superb. The Rösti were obviously way too long in the oven. But I am rating the hotel and not the restaurant here.

This is one best renovation we have seen. After the horrible land slip which destroyed the complete half of the old Stockalperturm, the remaining half has been beautifully renovated and completed with a new semi-detached building (all concrete) and been reverted to a hotel. Wherever you step, you know exactly if you are in the old or new part, however, old and new match beautifully together. The rooms are of a simple elegance and we immediately felt very comfortable (very good price/quality). There is an excellent restaurant (also in this beautiful simple style) where they serve local food. Furthermore they have a wine cellar in the old part where you can take your apero/cocktail. Very friendly service. The hotel is definitely worth a trip!

Pros - This is a beautiful hotel with very nice rooms and a good restaurant. Cons - It is literally beside the Simplon Pass highway just a stone's throw from the Italian border. Unfortunately, there is a lot of truck traffic on this highway. The trucks are quite noisy as they brake to stop at the border. Several times we could smell the diesel fuel from the trucks in our room on the 2nd floor. We had to sleep with the windows open because it was so hot and I was woken at 5 am. We had planned to stay 2 nights but had to leave after 1 night because I couldn't get back to sleep with the symphony of trucks outside the window. Breakfast was fine but had the smallest selection of any of the hotels we stayed at during our 3 week touring vacation. There is also nothing to walk to from the hotel. If you want to hike you have to drive to get to hiking routes.
