Having had a nice holiday in 2019 at Cruck Cottage we booked a week there as our first post-covid holiday. 24hrs before we were to go, the letting agency called to say it was cancelled due to a problem with the septic tank. They seemed to think the owner had already warned us but we'd heard nothing from them. In fact, in 2019 we heard nothing from them even while were there. Luckily, Holiday Cottages pulled out all the stops to get us rebooked at 24hrs notice, getting us the much better Stables in the Wolds for the same price. Cruck Cottage is small but quiet and in a lovely, if hilly location, but the owners need to improve their communication with their customers. Wouldn't risk booking it again.

We had a wonderful, quiet and relaxing time at Wolfscote Cottage. The surrounding countryside is absolutely beautiful. We did a few of the local walks which were manageable with a toddler and a baby (if you don't mind carrying them!) The routes were suggested by Jane, Joe and Grace the owners who were very friendly. They were busy making hay during our stay which was great for our three year old who was in tractor heaven. Jane took us to see the calves (we hope young Alfie the calf is thriving!) and Grace's Mega Cottage Pie was delicious. We did a couple of day trips out to Buxton and the Tissington Trail but feels like we barely scratched the surface of things to explore. It was equally enjoyable just sitting and watching the lambs on the hills behind the house and seeing a hare hopping about every evening. The only minor negative was that we couldn't connect to the wifi, but it was actually really nice feeling cut off. I only mention it as it might be frustrating if you were relying on it for your stay. Wish we'd gone for longer, we'll definitely go back!

UNRELIABLE!! We were booked into this cottage for a week, having booked this way in advance, having coordinated a hospital procedure for our father for the same week who is currently in a care home. It was cancelled on no notice, with a very confused story, I expect that they saw an opportunity to make more money elsewhere during COVID. If was cancelled so late leaving us no option to book somewhere else. The owner gave a very garbled story. I have raised this booking.com. But do not rely on this booking as you may be dropped in it and have your holiday plans dashed. VERY POOR!

Just come back from a lovely few days in Cruck cottage. Once warmed up the cottage was lovely warm and cosy felt at home. Didn’t see owners but were available if needed. We didn’t need them, all was satisfactory. Our dog Buddy loved it. Shame about the weather but even so the country side was phenomenal beautiful (even in mist) loved the fact there was no internet or phone signal (advertised as such) complete break from everything bliss. Totally relaxing 😌 perfect for walkers and dog owners. Planning to go again in Spring or Autumn.

We stayed at the b&b for 2 evenings. Booked at the last minute whilst attending an event locally. We literally had no idea about the area. Didn’t realise it was such amazing walking country. We must have looked like complete out of town ers with my LV hold-all & glittery shoes. Embarrassing! This is stunning land, rolling hills, dry stone walling & cows & sheep as far as the eye can see. The farmhouse dates back hundreds of years ,is warm & inviting & our room had a giant four poster bed. There is WiFi but we didn’t bother to log on. I had some phone signal but it was great not to have the phone ringing constantly. The properties are accessible down a 1.5 mile drive. Grace , Jane & joe were very friendly . Grace showed us the calves ( see photo) which were so cute( meat eater guilt). This is a proper working farm. If you want to get away from it please come here, we most certainly will come again- with the right clothing.

We stayed at Wolfescote cottage for 1 week Jul 19, family of 4, 2 adults and 2 kids ( 6&13) plus a dog. I have to totally commend Jane and family for their total patience and attention to detail especially when engaging with our youngest. The family regularly took time to speak with our wee girl and show her round the farm, she even got to name a new calf!! (Spot!!) The cottage itself was beautiful and although small was perfect for our needs. The cottage was clean and well maintained and we had no issues at all. Took a couple of days to get used to the lane leading up to the property but at end of day we knew we were going to be in the heart of the countryside so just got on with it! The area has so many places to visit and if you cant be bothered venturing out there are some beautiful walks right on the doorstep! I was a little apprehensive after reading some previous reviews but can honestly say as a family we felt every detail was perfect, Thanks so much to Jane and family for a beautiful and relaxing break xx

We have just returned from a wonderful week’s holiday staying in Cruck Cottage, one of the cottages at Wolfscote Grange. Cruck Cottage however is detached and stands slightly down the lane from the other cottages and the owner’s farmhouse. Cruck Cottage is a beautiful stone converted cow barn with stunning oak beams and amazing peaceful views. The living area is small but was plenty big enough for my partner and I. There are two bedrooms. The main bedroom was on a mezzanine floor upstairs with a twin bedroom on the ground floor. The owners Joe and Jane were absolutely lovely and had 2 very gorgeous friendly border collie girls who liked to say hello. The property has a lovely enclosed private garden/ patio area where it is lovely to sit outside and eat and admire your surroundings. There are some great walks on your doorstep with other attractions Curbar Edge, Mam Tor, Castleton, Chrome Hill, Bakewell etc within short reach by car (approx 45 Mins). The cottage sits above the River Dove but has no WiFi or phone signal. Perfect if you want to get away from it all. The only slight draw back we found was that it would have been helpful when planning the next days activities but we easily got around this. Bed linen is provided but you would need to bring towels. The cottage is just outside the pretty village of Hartington which has a couple of places you could pick up a few groceries, a newsagents and a village store. However if you wanted a slightly more extensive or bigger shop you would need to go to somewhere like Buxton which is what we did, which was about a 30 min drive away. The newly refurbished The Devonshire Arms pub was very good and we ate there twice. A Sunday roast lunch and on our last evening. The food was excellent. We would most certainly love to visit Cruck Cottage again and would wholeheartedly recommend it!

We have just returned from a quiet and peaceful weekend in Swallows Return . The cottage had everything we needed and it was so nice to be able to go on walks without using the car. Yes it is a bit of a drive down a single track road but we had no problems even travelling in a convoy of two cars and meeting the post van who kindly reversed for us. We received a very warm welcome even in the middle of lambing . It was wonderful to enjoy the spring scenery and see the new arrivals. We would happily return and would like to say thank you for a lovely break.

Have just returned from a stay in Cruck Cottage, one of the dwellings at Wolfscote Grange. This is an old cow barn which stands on its own and which has been turned into a charming, cosy cottage with amazing beams and mezzanine bedroom, looking out across Dove Valley. So peaceful and tranquil, and no chance of modern day intervention as no wifi, 4G or mobile signal. Sits above the River Dove which provides great walks. Hartington is also a typical picturesque Peak District village, although we were disappointed that the cafes/tea rooms etc accepted walkers, but not walkers dogs, and we found the two pubs distinctly average, with disappointing cuisine. But we loved Cruck Cottage, and will return, which is unusual for us.
