We booked well in advance as it was my friends 60th birthday and we were having lunch together. The weather was glorious and we got there in plenty of time . Lucky we booked as there was a queue and people were being turned away .The garden looked nice and the, staff were very pleasant. After a while our order was taken .....then it all went downhill ...... We had ordered scampi chips etc and gammon chips with all the trimmings , after some considerable time we noticed the waitress was going from table to table , apparently there was a problem with the frier , so chips , scampi , onion rings and fried egg where all off the menu ...we were given an option of mash for the gammon meal so said yes as we had by then been waiting over an hour ...I changed my order to Tuna sandwich , which was meant to have chilli and spring onion , I asked for a packet of crisps to go with it but ‘sorry no crisps’ ! ( a pub without crisps??) Anyway fortunately the weather was good , and it was out first ‘meal out ‘ since before ‘lockdown’ . We waited , and waited .......I asked how long it would be ...the reply was ‘ gammon is ready’ just have to make sandwich ....we waited ...how much longer please ?? It’s just being plated ....by this time , the waiter had said he wouldn’t charge us for the 2 drinks we had ordered over an hour ago .... eventually the food arrived ........sadly the mash and peas were cold , the fried egg ( which we were told was off ! ) was hard and burnt ...the sandwich was ok but no sign of the chilli or spring onion , my friend left most of hers . I asked for the bill , and they bought the wrong one ....oh dear off he went to get the correct one .....I waited .....when he eventually came out again , I had left the table and was standing by the exit , He didn’t have my bill with him , I said it had been a great disappointment and I didn’t think I would want to pay for anything ...in his defence he agreed , so off I went .......great shame ......lovely village , nice staff , need to get their act together ....

We came for 2 nights break from lockdown & Covid. Great spacious room. Great pub and felt very safe with COVID precautions. The staff - especially Stephen - looked after us really well. No free tables in the pub to drink so they let us sit in the restaurant. They were fully booked for food when we arrived but found us a table as we were staying! Fantastic breakfast. We felt regulars after 2 days, thanks to Stephen and the team. Massive beer garden at the back that no one seemed to know about so quiet. Definitely recommend

Our stay at The Devonshire Arms was short, but definitely sweet!! We made check in by the skin of our teeth but were still greeted with the warmest welcome!! The room was lovely, the staff super friendly (and coping brilliantly with the new way of doing things!) and the food was fantastic!! Perfect short escape from London after working all through lockdown! Couldn’t recommend this place enough!!

What a little gem this pub is! Set in the heart of Harrington village (which is quaint and peaceful) it has the perfect location. After a long walk along the River Dove we retraced our steps back to here and had some delicious food! I had a hot sandwich of turkey, stuffing and cranberry served with a tasty salad and vegetable crisps! For £1.50 extra I added a cup of tasty homemade cauliflower soup! Friends had the fish and chips and the homemade pie. All superb! The service was second to none and the staff were kind, attentive and friendly.

Welcomed by a really friendly young barman who was super-polite and engaging. The interior looks fab-really stylish. Every pub needs a chap like this-taking real pride in his work. V refreshing. After a long, muddy walk, we needed a decent lunch and we weren’t disappointed. Friend and I both had the falafel sandwich with chips and salad. Couldn’t fault it. Aside from the fabulous food, I think the keys to success at The Devonshire Arms are: great customer service (wish I had caught the man’s name-he was brilliant) and a limited menu. Too often, pubs try to do too much and end up doing it all badly. Not here. They know what they do well and we were really impressed. Thank you for a great visit; we will definitely be back (though we plan to stop over next time so we can enjoy the evening menu and a couple of glasses of 🍷🍷) 🙂
