Beautiful farmhouse, built in 1859 and laiden with character. The grand en-suite bedrooms accompanied by a home cooked farmhouse breakfast provide a homely and comfortable holiday for all. Children are very welcome and there is a family room available. A guests lounge with television, DVD, Video facilities and a wood burning fire for those chilly evenings. The farmhouse also provide freshly baked scones and cream teas, and will provide lunches, dinners and packed lunches on request. This B&B is set in the magnificent Peak District, and just half a mile from the quaint village of Hartington. It is ideal for exploring the Peak District, visiting Chatsworth, the towns of Ashbourne and Buxton, walking in the Peaks, and it is also close to Alton Towers.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My wife and I stayed at Bank Top Farm just north of Hartington for four nights in August 2021. It is a very characterful, authentic and charming bed-and-breakfast. The hostess is very kind and accommodating and the full English breakfast not to be missed - it provides the perfect start each morning for adventurers in the Peak District. Our room way spacious and like the farm, full of charm. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom very clean and well equipped. Nearby Hartington is a beautiful little village and a convenient place to base oneself for day-trips within the Peak District. I would highly recommend Bank Top Farm to anyone looking to visit the Peak District who wants a genuine experience of living, if only for a short while, in the English countryside. 5 stars, 10/10, A+++.

Had a lovely overnight stay with Jane and family at Bank Top Farm. A very warm welcome, it was a joy to stay at a traditional family farmhouse, seeped in history. We had the Family Room which was perfect for a family of four, even had an ensuite which I was not expecting. Room extremely clean and comfortable, which stayed dark after sunrise. In fact, we were so cosy in bed we nearly overslept breakfast!!! Delicious breakfast in the morning and a stroll around the farm to say hello to the calves and admire the beautiful hanging baskets. Was so lovely of Jane to welcome us into her family home, with additional lounge rooms for us to enjoy full of photos across the years. Loved our stay and will definitely be back.

This really is a working farm and if you take the time to ask Jane about it she'll give you some insight about daily routines which is a treat for a Melbourne city girl like me who loves sheep and cows! Lovely quiet rural area with an easy 10 minute walk into Hathersage. Jane cooks a very generous breakfast which will keep you going until dinnertime, even if you do some big hikes! Fresh juice, tea/coffee, cereals, fruit, then the hot stuff. Had my first oat cakes here and loved them!

Lovely welcome, lovely place, lovely location! This is proper rural England at its best and most genuine. Breakfast was delicious in front of the fire watching the rugby. (Thanks Jane!) Beds were super comfortable and just overall very relaxing stay!!

We have had a lovely stay at this B and B... however we did read the reviews before coming and knew what to expect... Some reviews have been a bit harsh of this lovely old working farm... and that’s exactly what it is! We also searched for other places to stay and you do get what you pay for. This is somewhere unique, oozing character and tranquility. The hostess was lovely and couldn’t do enough to try and make our stay welcome. Delicious cooked breakfast provided at a time of our choice. The decor is dated as you would expect in an old farmhouse but what an amazing location and beautiful scenery. I think that reports of it being dirty are harsh. Like I say, just more of a rustic interior than a more modern guesthouse. But to us that made the stay more memorable.

We stayed here three weeks ago during very hot weather. Our room was spacious and cool despite the heat outside. We had one small, but comfortable double bed and a single. Decor is traditional and furniture farmhouse style. We had a really good night's sleep. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided and a nice touch was a jug of fresh milk left outside our room. The breakfast was filling and tasty and Mary ensured we had everything we needed. The place has a real sense of history and I suspect Americans would love it. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful stay at Bank Top Farm in April and I cannot recommend Jane's hospitality more highly. From start to finish, she was attentive, informative and made us feel at home. The house exudes authenticity and rustic charm without the usual shabby chic look. Bank Top Farm offers stunning views and near total seclusion. The perfect getaway.

I rang and spoke to Jane and booked for 5 on our annual walking weekend and confirmed by email at the end of August. We were due to arrive this Saturday and I rang to check everything was Ok as i had read previous reviews here on Trip Advisor that bookings are not the strong point of this place. I was shocked to hear that Jane had booked 6 motorcyclists in our place. What do you do when this happens? I also had to cancel our booking at the wonderful Devonshire Arms. This incompetence has caused upset and disappointment to a large group of people and lost business to a number of businesses that we use in Hartington. This place is already 7th out of 7 in the area and best avoided. I rarely leave bad reviews but this behaviour is totally unacceptable.

Stopped here just last Friday night through a voucher deal and all I will say is fabulous place, on arrival we were greeted by the owner with a friendly smile and once shown to our wonderful full of character room we were offered a nice refreshing cuppa which went down a treat after our 7 mile walk in the gorgeous Derbyshire countryside, spent the evening in wonderful Harrington village now that is a place we could gladly retire to and then returned to the farm late that evening for a very comfortable nights sleep with the promise of breakfast awaiting us in the morning, well that certainly did not disappoint, a delicious hearty breakfast cooked to perfection and served by the friendly host. Now if you want Spick and span and clean lines look elsewhere but if like us you love older places with bags of character and charm then book here, we shall be returning here no question for a long weekend soon
