Been trying to stay here for ages and finally found a time when it wasn’t full. Checking was quick and my room was on the 2nd floor, really big with twin beds, 2 small arm chairs and a desk to work from. Nice large flatscreen TV on the wall & mini bar (which was really noisy so got turned off). Breakfast was a good choice from cereals, pastries, toast to fried, scrambled, boiled or poached eggs, omelettes, teas, coffees juice etc etc and plenty of it. We had dinner one evening and a good selection of seasonal food to chose from at a reasonable price and very good quality. Would recommend eating there if passing. Would have been good if the dragon bar was open but as there was only 6 of us in the hotel I think they thought it was not worth it. Very interesting to see what the hotel was like In ruins before being rebuilt to its current state and to see some of the history & artefacts around the hotel. Would like to stay there again in the spring summer months so we could sit outside on the patios.

Amazing hotel in the castle. History was felt everywhere. Beautiful premises, room, restaurant, dining room... We had a tour of the entire area with a lecture - a very nice and well-informed lady. Delicious food. They also showed us Dracula's room - I probably wouldn't sleep there :) Beautiful space for a wedding. This place has Genius Loci.

WOW. Live in a castle snd feel like royalty ! A one of a kind old castle turned into a luxury hotel. Spacious rooms with antique furniture. Nice pool. Good breakfast. Friendly staff. Stayed in summer (August) and could have used an a/c. Overall - great experience.

Unfortunately, we were not satisfied with this hotel, and we don´t recommend it at all. Services were really poor, and the food was horrible (there was a very small selection and dishes were disgusting and other guests were complaining about it too). Wellness is too small, and it should be renovated, as well as bathrooms in hotel rooms. The hotel doesn´t meet the quality standards of a 4-star hotel.

We looked forward to this experience. Communication prior the stay was very good and we appreciated the summary e-mail a few days prior check-in. The room was large enough, same with bathroom. Although we feel there was empty space in both, it did not feel too tiny. We were impressed how the ruins of castle were turned to the beautiful hotel. 45 minutes castle guide was enriching. Spa was small (short pool, jacuzzi for max. 6 people, infra sauna for 2, Finnish one for max. 6) and only a few places to chill. However understandable due to place where it's located. Lower restaurant was absolutely amazing. Grilled veal liver was absolutely amazing and definitely recommending. All the other meals were amazing too. Breakfast was average, pancakes were good. Dinner on 2nd day was solid, nothing exceptional unfortunately. Regarding to the areas of improvement: eco tissues in the bathroom were great and the direction to use more ecological products is great. We though did not understand one-use plastic cups in wellness area :-( Inconsistency of providing information: massage opening hours: we got 3 different answers within 5 seconds from 3 people at reception. When we checked in the room, we found out we got incorrect information. Also, Sphere club discount question: we asked whether it's applicable because we spotted Sphere magazine in the room. Firstly, we got the answer no. Then the receptionist said she will check. When we came back, we were told Sphere card is applicable and we appreciated that. During check-out, the discount was applied however the comment from the person who originally said Sphere discount is not applicable and then told me to put into the comment during the reservation was rather weird. Firstly, she is not aware and then I should have put into the comment during making reservation? Overall, we enjoyed the stay, if a few things could be improved, it would have made even a bigger difference.

The Viglas is a folly of a vain rich man, it is a complete rebuild of historic ruins into the owners play house keeping nothing of value creating a mediocre hotel. It would have been better off left as ruins.
We did a tour and was only shown photographs of the owner and a modern building - the construction did not even try to restore the ruins or utilise traditional techniques to recreate the original.

I'm very conflicted about this review...and I think this is because the hotel is conflicted too. It's not clear what the hotel wants to be - a luxury mountain 5* retreat, or a castle-themed 4*. Currently they are falling between both and the conflict is clear. It must have cost a fortune to renovate this property from its former ruined state. In many respects no expense has been spared - the hotel is overall well restored, and the fixtures and fittings are high quality. However, sometimes some aspects are not quite right for a luxury hotel. Service is friendly, but a bit casual. Furniture is solid and comfortable, but sometimes seems out of place...not quite luxe, not quite romantic castle. Overall the hotel has too much 'castle kitsch' to pass muster as a serious luxury retreat - if you compare to the Kempinski High Tatras (which admittedly is almost 2x the price) both the overall feeling of luxury and service standards fall short. I would recommend the management to take a trip to the Kempinski to experience what a true luxury and top notch service feel like. I suspect they will learn a thing or two. For a decent 4* hotel would give them overall 4, but if they advertise themselves as "in the tradition of the finest hotels in the world" or "medieval architecture meets five-star elegance" then I have to go with overall 3 - an average. They have a long journey to go before matching their slogans on their websites.

Dear Zuzka, thank you for your visit and also for you review. Your opinion and recomendation are very valuable for us to improve our services. We are not trying to sell us as 5* stars hotel and we also do not want to compare with hotels, wich are part of world hotels group. We are trying to provide hotel in the castle and castle in the hotel what is sometime very complicated. But you are right that we have a long journey to go but we are doing our best. And I am sure that with our guest and their recomendations and remarks we can do our best. Thank you and have a nice day.

New hotel, opened Sept. 2014. Replica of the Viglas Castle (part of it was preserved but most of it completely rebuilt because the original castle was destroyed during WWII). Beautiful replicas of medieval paraphernalia on the hallways, in the restaurant and just about everywhere one can look. This is by far the most beautiful hotel I ever saw, and I saw them a few. The rooms are huge and spacious, as well as the bathroom and toilet. And did I say the hotel is super clean? Slovakia is said to have the cleanest hotels in Europe and this hotel is surely one to surpass anybody's expectations on this account. Free wifi in the rooms, free wellness, all inculsive restaurant. We had breakfast/supper included in the package, not all inclusive but despite that even the lemon flavoured water was served to dinner for free! I was expecting having to pay for the drinks and what a nice surprise. Guided tour around the castle was also included in the package price as well as a free entry for 1 day for 2 persons to spa Kovacova, located just 15 km away. Prices are very reasonable. Free guarded parking in front of the castle.

What a venue! We had our wedding at Viglas Castle, we were there for two days and everything was absolutely perfect! From the moment we arrived Hricova the wedding manager was there to greet us and assist with all the guests check-ins to the time we all had to leave, everything ran smoothly and all the staff were so very helpful and friendly. Our honeymoon suite was beautiful and the staff did a great job making us feel special, and all our other guests were very happy with their rooms. The wedding was absolutely perfect, we could not have asked for a better day, could not fault one thing but that food was outstanding! Well worth travelling from Australia to stay there and we are already planning to stay next anniversary.
Thank you So much Hricova and the Viglas team!

Not far off of highway. There is parking at the castle. Staff at reception was friendly. Hotel is an old Middle Ages castle that was restored 2009-2013... really amazing! Rooms are spacious, bathrooms are ok. Not a lot of counter space for the ladies. Restaurant is tasty and Stanislaus is really friendly and fun!
