We went this May and had a fantastic time! Resort was huge, plenty to do. Reps in the lobby in the AM until 3 or 4 in the afternoon. Super easy to book excursions. They only run certain excursions that are far from the resort (like the cloud forest) once a week. If you're there for 3 weeks, though, that shouldn't be a problem. The Papagayo Bay is right there and convenient to cruise around, snorkel, see sea turtles, etc. The resort abuts the jungle so you hear wildlife all night with the windows open. The Diamante eco park is right next door. Less than a 5 minute bus ride and you can see all kinds of animals there. I didn't see as many monkeys as I would've liked around all the grounds. However, people at the next door resort said they saw them walking around the whole time, so you may want to go over there some. Forget the name, but it's a white building and right next door. When you take a boat ride out, you can see them both side by side. The staff is so nice, courteous and always says my pleasure. They have to turn off the resort lights around 11pm because the sea turtles that are hatching go towards the light and the turtle need to head towards the sea. The nightlife isn't spectacular, but they really try. The only 2 things that irritated me were sometimes the elevators went out and we were on the 4th floor and my hubby is disabled and the whole restaurant deal. If you don't want to eat in the main dining room, you have to line up at one of the other restaurants starting at 5 to get a buzzer to get a seat. So, if you're not out of the water and standing in line then, it's hard to get into one of the more specialized dining areas. If you have a group going, you could always switch off designatees to stand in line. However, if you're not ready then, that could be a problem. I did go get a buzzer once around 5:30 and they were on a 2 hr wait at that point, so we had until 7:30 to get ready. I can't imagine why it would get negative reviews? I really think you'll enjoy it.
