Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at Kilkea Castle in May of 2022 on our honeymoon. We had previously been staying in Temple Bar which was very lively and eccentric! Arriving at the castle after a few days in Dublin was a serene experience. The beautiful trees, the perfect landscaping and the quiet atmosphere all create the perfect respite from the noise of the city. We arrived early so we spent some time walking around the grounds of the castle, and used the thermal suite in the spa. The spa staff were professional and accommodating to our needs. Everything about the hotel was delightful, including stunning floral arrangements, and the beautiful soundscape of the birds of Ireland. After getting settled in our room (our room was stunning and very comfortable), we headed down to the bar to have a drink before dinner, and that's where we met the best bartender of our trip (and we went to a lot of bars) named Andrew. It appeared to be Andrew's personal mission to ensure we had a great time there and that we felt like kings and queens for the day! He was welcoming and we were very well-tended to, right down to him playing music he knew we loved throughout the bar! We enjoyed a lovely dinner at Hermione's restaurant before heading back to the bar where we had a great time with our favorite bartender and some of the other patrons. The bar patio is a lovely place to hang out but within the castle, I would encourage any guest to wander around the first floor. There are couches where you can sit next to a fire with a perfect stranger and have a conversation, as well as private nooks where you can just sneak off with a loved one for more privacy. Our experience at Kilkea Castle was perfect. We will definitely be back!

Great venue, easy to find, great service, good food / beverage, quite rooms. I did not play golf but after seeing the course wish I had. Falconry demonstration was very interesting and educational. Breakfast was included and was first class!

We had a big wedding at Kilkea Castle two weeks ago. The whole extended weekend was perfect. The castle staff made the event work. No problem was too difficult, everyone bent over backwards to make it a very memorable wedding. The castle is perfectly set up for weddings and big events. I can’t recommend it too highly. Go there, it’s fantastic.

Went to lunch here today for my mother's birthday as a special treat. The food was lovely. We had ceasar salad n chicken supreme for main and both were tender. Then as one of us has an egg allergy the staff sought out a sorbet... never have I had one so nice. I am told the apple crumble was fab too. I will be back for more sorbet soon. All staff were very helpful especially in getting us a higher chair and Rachel Logan coming to say hello made our day. Thank you Kilkea. See you soon

Unique and wonderful experience to stay in an old castle out in the country. My wife really enjoyed the Spa experience, while I played 9 holes. Nice course - more American style than Irish/links. Unfortunately, we were unable to experience 1180 Restaurant (CLOSED) due to the August bank holiday. We were not made aware of this when booking, otherwise we would have reserved a different night for our stay.

The castle and the grounds are beyond beautiful. BUT the resort is disappointing all in all. Service and food terrible. It is NOT a 4 star resort. We attended a wedding and as an experience was extraordinary BUT the hotel NOT. Will not stay again and will not recommend. Sorry

A fantastic place to stay particularly if you intend to play golf. I found the Superior Courtyard accommodation very spacious and well decorated. The golf course was a good challenge and not overly busy. The staff are really friendly and attentive and I could not fault the service in all areas of the resort. We arrived on 17/07/22 and I cannot remember the name of manager on duty but he went out of his way to ensure we had everything we required. Will definitely return. (Top Notch)

A highlight from our recent trip to Ireland. We wanted to do a castle stay and we won the lottery when we chose Kilkea. From start to finish everything was great. We had dinner on property and even saw fireworks from a wedding that took place during our stay. Everything exceeded expectations.

WE had a nice, three-night stay in the Lodges of Castle Kilkea. The scenery is stunning, castle is gorgeous, and all of the staff are so friendly and helpful (esp Dom, Heather and Andrew). The lodge rooms are large and there were nice linens, however, our issues were that there was no fridge, no stocked waters or drinks, and we were told not to drink the tap water. WE had to go to front desk in the castle any time we needed water. There is no daily housekeeping, you have to schedule it through the front desk, (which we didn't realize till last day). They seemed to be still "working on" the lodges. The two restaurants are good and staff was great, but they did seem very short-staffed. There really isn't anything to do at the castle other than golf or tennis (and the tennis court was astroturf). If they just added some comfy loungers, firepits, and lawn games, it would make the stay so much better. Spa was excellent, highly recommend Louise. All in all, I'd go back but maybe for a night.
