We accidentally happened upon this now privately owned castle chasing a double rainbow on our first trip to Ireland in 2014! We pulled into the outer driveway area so I could snap a photo of the rainbow and the owner came out to talk to us, he was super friendly and offered a private tour of his unique castle home! I hope someday they turn this amazing castle into a B&B so others can enjoy the place, and learn about the history! The owner was amazing, and for us Americans this was the highlight of our trip to Ireland, even with all of the amazing adventures and sightseeing in Ireland, so that says a lot for an amazing experience! Cheers to the owner and best wishes! We are very grateful for your generosity and hospitality! Judy and Al
we loved our stay in the castle hostel! the grounds were beautiful, and inside was quite nice too. modern bathrooms, big kitchen and dining room, den with pool table. we stayed in a private room but dorms are available as well. not too pricey but a little more than a regular hostel. the owner was very nice. it is about 10 miles from kilkenny and you have to take a coach out there if you don't have a car. bring your own food and drinks!
This Castle was a very pleasant surprise. The grounds were lovely and clean. The people we met were so nice and staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Our dorm room was clean and the beds very comfortable. We did have trouble finding the Castle even with our GPS system. After about an hour of driving in circles, we stopped and asked a local who gave us excellent directions. In the evening we wanted to go into Kilkenny for dinner instead of cooking at the castle and staff rang up a taxi service for us. The driver gave us a number to call for our return to the castle and was actually waiting for us to take us back. He also gave us tips of where to go for dinner and nightlife. We definately will stay there again.
My boyfriend and I rented a car and drove across Ireland for 1 week. It was all in all wonderful experience - places, people, basically everything about Ireland - we love you Ireland!! To conclude our trip, we decided to stay at this castle hostel for our last night in Ireland. It was a bit hard for us to find the castle, but we managed and it was such a breathtaking site when we arrived there. As we walked inside, there is no reception on the 1st floor. You have to go to the 2nd floor and ring this age-old "bell" and the owner shows up with his dog (which we thought was so lovely!). We didn't book for twin room, but Bridget who was so helpful over Oige booking site apparently reserved it for us (Thank you Bridget!). The kitchen was so nice and huge, and the bathroom was clean too :) The dining area was just like from one of those movies and we both truly enjoyed our stay at this quiet, beautiful environment :D…
Stayed here in April and it was quite cold, but we were cozy enough in the dorm with the space heaters. Make sure you have food with you othewise its a drive into the next town. The castle is amazing as is its history. The place was clean and comfortable. What more could you want from a hostel? I would not really recommend staying if you dont have a car, but if you do, this place is a must stay!
