Staff here were lovely and really welcoming. I think it’s fair to say this is more of a bed and breakfast rather than a boutique hotel, and could do with a bit of love, but the beds are comfortable and the location was excellent for what we needed.

Nothing like the published description. Run down, shabby. My room had pillows without pillowcases and a badly stained pillow. Beds comfortable but overall feeling it must all have been better some time ago and does not rate four star.

Hi Jill I was waiting for your review. I checked you out this morning so I can respond accurately. Regarding the pillows You say there were no pillowcases in my room" then say "one was badly stained & quot; Either there were pillow cases on or not! You advised me this morning at breakfast, very sternly that the water was cold in the shower. Upon hearing this I called my plumber who came out immediately. He checked the shower and advised me the water WAS hot. I then went to the room and the shower was HOT. I really wish I had had the time to check myself as this would have saved me time and money. You were so annoyed that I had to resolve the problem immediately. It seems that you were not turning the handle the correct way. Oh Dear!!!!! Your daughter went to the toilet on the ground floor and promptly advised me that there was no running water in the basin. "Oh no!" I thought! I went to check and there WAS running water. I advised that you had to lift the leaver on the tap. ( very easy to do ) Nobody has had a problem with this. To which your daughter said " Must be one of those modern taps" to which I said Its been there 12 years! You also complained about the tea bags in room stating they were too strong and did I have any others. I didn't. Maybe more water would suffice. Upon checking out, you advised me that you were disappointed and proceeded to advise all the above to which I DID SAY 'I expected that" There was a big silence and you then went upstairs to collect your bags. There was NOTHING to apologise for in my opinion. Eye contact ? Regret- none! My regret is that I called a plumber out urgently for no reason and now have a bill to pay! Big regret! Sheila - Owner

My sister and I stayed here as part of our Great North Run weekend. We had a lovely time and the staff were brilliant, so friendly (and funny!) and very accommodating of us leaving our stuff and car after checkout while we completed the run. When we finally got back, the relaxing bar area was a godsend. The room was very nice, the bed super comfortable and breakfast just right. Thanks for being part of such a memorable weekend. We’d definitely stay again!

Stayed here night before Great North Run. Prices were increased but that's the market rate for the event. Comfortable bed and quiet location near Gosforth high street. Handy for bus or tube to Newcastle. Clean and nicely furnished. Staff very friendly and efficient. Good English breakfast but I think that may have been a special for the weekend. Honesty bar after 10pm which is a nice touch. Parking on road is limited but the hotel provides residents parking permit. Overall a good experience.

Positives Friendly staff, welcoming guests everytime they appear. Offering help. Can't come and go without being greeted ( +/-) Waiting for guests. Location perfect for public transport and convenience stores. Overall felt clean.towels replaced daily . Negatives. Old building creaky doors so impossible to come and go quietly . Locks on rooms are too close together to handle awkward and again lots of noise making to get in and out Stairs are steep and very narrow( building old) just be careful. Rooms ok but inconsistent designs. Bed comfort needs improving need to turn mattresses or invest in new as heavily used. No extra bedding only towels . Breakfast was very poor very basic B&B 2stat ...curly veg, processed meat left out , cheese comes in and out of fridge daily sits there then goes back till it's all gone, really dry bread, fruit salad the same put out for hours to room temperature then away again till eaten it looked stored for few days not fresh. Room service inconsistent day of arrival tea bags coffee water little biscuits all there , next day after serviced were not replaced for some reason . Carpet not vacuumed. Sound like little things , but pricing is at hotel premium but service and conditions definitely B&B and makes all difference to staying there again.
