We came during Covid times. The property is great and the view is fantastic but I’m disappointed with the customer service. I bought a package deal online and it said there should be a pool view or bungalow as accommodation. It’s also our ten year anniversary so I before we came a write two emails asking if they can do something special for us and they said they would try. However, when we go here we got a view of the parking lot and nothing special. So to say the least I am disappointed. The restaurant that is included in the package is ok but doesn’t seem very Covid safe bc everyone is next to each other. Even if they wear masks and have plastic shields for the food. The pool and sea is amazing though. And as usual for some reason the pillows in the room suck!

Honestly, this was very meh. Mediocre stay; highly overpriced, very average quality in terms of food and comfort food and the segregation between the club members and ‘normal’ guests make you feel half unwanted.     We’d booked based on promotions the hotel was giving and based on their website, social media and the gorgeous pictures. I had read some of the comments surrounding the hotel around but made the mistake of discarding them as disgruntled petty customers. Turns out, below comments are very valid.     So, impeccable scene. Honestly breathtaking view, amazing location with the hotel resort going from up the hill to right down at sea level with private beach pontoon you can lie on. Lovely pool areas and gorgeous scenes. On that level – the pictures are honest. Where they get you is on room size, quality of food and staff’s smiles.     Firstly, no help offered whatsoever to help you with luggage or show you to your room. We’d booked the prestige suites so this was a first surprise. Next, settled into our rooms (clean and cozy, no issues there) but second surprise : size – much smaller than expected and with the toilet and bathroom separate only by a smoked glass panel (TRIGGER ALERT : essentially this won’t filter sound or smell – I travelled down to reception every morning to keep the romance alive)     Out of tiredness, we booked the hotel's restaurant on our first evening and were extremely disappointed – the food was really average. Considering we paid 3 times less in little osteria’s in town for some of the best food of our life, this was unfortunate.  Breakfast is included, but it’s appalling. Canteen buffet catering a selection of scrambled eggs made out of some power mixed with water, straight out the freezer sausages and a selection of the least authentic cheeses you have ever seen. If at least you could take that depressing breakfast outside that would be nice, but, nope, the outside is reserved for the elites (the D-club memebers), and you, average guest who saved up a half-month salary, get the basement - not a joke, the basement. Worst part was the coffee which is offered to you from a machine.  QUICK VENT: On my last morning, I had an argument with a staff member when I sent back a cappuccino that didn’t have a milk foam. The barista, offended, pointed at the lousy cloud of milk that covered the coffee-flavoured warm milk cup he’d served me claiming it to be a cappuccino and that if I wanted another, I can get one from the machine. Shocking treatment.   Throughout the whole stay, the distinction between D-club members and normal guests is enormous – demonstration of the wannabee eliteness of the hotel usual's. We were booted out of our seats a couple of times and the general atmosphere is unpleasant as you walk past the ‘D-club’ towards your normal seats - as if you are supposed to look upon their comfier seats with envy. Moreover, you see staff bend over backwards for the members with staff members standing idle by the reserved areas whilst you try to get their attention. The most shocking was seeing a mother and her baby being woken up from their shaded seats in the d-club and asked to move towards 'normal seats' - normal seats were crowded and the remaining spaces were in the sun. Overall, having paid near 700€ for 3 nights in prestige rooms, I had higher expectations for the stay.

Response from Domina Zagarella Sicily, Proprietario at Domina Zagarella Sicily
Responded 22 Jun 2021
Dear Mister Bill, we appreciate the time you spent for the review, and we will work hard to provide the best possible service. We would like to explain that the difference between an individual guest and a member guest is just for some areas, as the member breakfast hall and some parts around the pools, that are anyway, accessible to all for swimming. Some tables at the restaurant are reserved for members and sometimes for groups, too, so it is not a segregation for others. It is not an elite club, and we try to provide the same service to all of our valued Guests. As a 4 stars Hotel, upon the arrival, we are able to provide a help for the luggages, under request. We provide different kind of rooms, for size, view, floor and colour and we set the correct informations online. In italy, the bathroom, is usually one space only, including sink, shower, bidet and toilet. We apologise if the food was not what you expected, and if there was not a good behavior by the staff, and we'll take the necessary actions. Even more the buffet restaurant area (La Zagara), it is not in a basement, but it is located on the first floor. We really thank you for your feedback, and we are at your disposal for any further information. Francesco Puglisi - Front Office Manager -

The half pension food definitely not worth it when outside of the hotel food is really good and cheap. In this 4 star hotel everything outside of the box is expensive without a reason, even parking is not included. Nonetheless and despite staff that sometimes can make the difference or not...I would not go back to this hotel because of the aggressive difference between Domina Club clients as opposed to normal clients and none of this is advertised on their website. Subscription to this club gives privileges to its members for everything making you feel not welcome, since not indicated before or during your permanence. This is poor hotel management from all points of view. Me and my husband travel a lot and this is the first hotel in the all world where coffee served in the morning for normal guests is undrinkable!!

I have added points below which I wrote as we were staying here; Extra car parking fee which was not told at time of booking Food - same breakfast/ served edible not hot - depressing canteen style with frosted matte windows no atmosphere Rude staff apart from the helpful lady at the restaurant Giulia.. Safe not working Beach not suitable for children (rocks surrounding) Maintenance works needs addressing on the decking by the pool Surrounding roads are dirty and rubbish everywhere and there are no actual visible footpaths which made it incredibly difficult to get around outside the hotel if you didn’t hire a car. Restaurant over the road was decent but most staff were rude. Bar staff were reluctant to fill up reusable water bottles.. as they wanted you to spent £3.50 for a bottle of mineral water. Eco friendly this hotel is not Strange atmosphere with the ‘D club’ segregation which we was not aware of. We felt like pheasants even though we payed close to £1000 for 6 days and it was totally obvious that those guests came first over any other paying customer! It was almost aggressive - Was not 4* based on customer service, food, quality of drink, I could go on... based on the non ‘d club’ experience this is more 3* Finally! - my 3 year old daughter had burnt her feet really badly on the hot metal disabled ramp by the main pool. The temperature had reached around 32 degrees at the point of the holiday and not only was there a warning sign or to make you aware not to use. Common sense would tell you not to walk on scolding hot metal in the midday sun however this was my small child running around the pool enjoying herself when this accident happened. There was no immediate help and no apology or effort to either put a sign up or surround with tape or something similar. Pros- Spotlessly clean room made at the same time every day. Excellent swimming pools AVOID if you are travelling with children this is not child friendly
