What an idyllic place to stay, wow! We stayed there for 2 nights and could really have stayed longer. It is indeed in the middle of nowhere, but it's really worth to go there. We had 2 rooms next door with our 2 youngsters and we had a big terrace overlooking the exceptional garden and the breede river. The rooms...

Wow! 69KM up a dirt track and you find a slice of heaven! We only stayed for 1 night as we were on a tight road trip schedule but I wish we'd had more time. This is a beautiful place to stay, peace and quiet, views, friendly hosts, fishing, bird watching and chill out time. It was so lovely, you...

From the first moment we set foot on this lovely property, we knew we were going to enjoy our stay. For a normally very active couple, this was the most relaxing trip yet. We were welcomed warmly, the room was a nice cool reprieve from the afternoon heat and the magnificent birdlife attracted by the feeding stations, the surrounding brush...

Hilary prepares fantastic meals, especially the fresh fish dishes. She also feeds the local birds resulting in excellent birding in the beautiful lodge gardens. Mudlark is a great lodge to relax in and enjoy the birds or fish on the Breede...

We found this place by accident, just booked it off a listing. Was worth the 64k track to get there.. We only had a hired Polo and it managed the road easily. Quick tip make sure you have a full tank of fuel before going as there didn't seem to be any on the road available. Hilary's food is amazing...

After my recent four reviews (Old Thatch Swellendam, Hope Villa Knysna, Koffylaagte Game Lodge and Zwartberg Mountain View near Oudtshoorn) about our holiday in South Africa I have just realized I missed our last stopover at the mouth of the Breede River. May Hillary and Tim forgive me! After almost two weeks travelling we needed some rest and found this...

This was a perfect celebration for our anniversary. We love nature, needed peace and quiet and to spend some time on our own. We were given just the right room, A little pathway snakes to our almost hidden cabin in the bushes. The garden is lush and well kept with bird trays and feeders to attract lots of birds. The...

If The drive here on 65 Km's of dusty gravel road is daunting don't let it put you off coming to paradise. The separate log cabins with private shady terraces are everything you could want, with stunning views over the river. You join other guests for breakfast and dinner or a quiet drink on the communal terrace, in the bar...

“Room 1 & 2 are the smaller rooms, but still had more than enough space for us, 3 & 4 are almost twice the size of 1 & 2, if you really like space around you. Room 5 is also a large room, but set aside and very private. All the rooms however are stylishly decorated, have their own outside sitting areas and met our requirements two times over.”
