We stayed at Gradonna resort with our family during summer. It is fair to say that it is one of the best hotel we stayed in in Europe.
We really like the design and atmosphere: super modern, wood, stone, concrete and iron materials, and you can see the mountains from basically everywhere inside the hotel. Super cool!
A big plus is that the hotel is located at the end of the valley, so it is really really quiet. From there you can start all kinds of activities directly from the hotel.
The kids club is clearly worth highlighting. It goes much beyond day care. Kids are entertained ans staff is super friendly. Even if the kids club staff did not speak French, our kids had no issues to have fun with other kids and really enjoyed it.
The food is of good quality and quite diverse, without being extraordinary. Yet it clearly does the job and we had pleasure sitting at the table every day.
The staff is super friendly and almost gives you want you want before you ask. Quite impressive !
We stayed in the regular room (best to ask for mountains view) and they are big enough for a family of 4 (2 kids of 3/6), with plenty of cupboards to hide your stuff.
So in short, go there and enjoy if you like the mountains. But be sure to book early on as it gets full quite fast.

A very warm heating welcome. The rooms are big enough but a bit to warm so the air is very dry. Rooms are clean and beds are comfortable. Breakfast room is huge and everybody can find something. Dinner wqs delicious and our waiter Victor was very nice. Kids club was a hit for the kids amd also the kids pool. Outside area is spacious and you have a lovely view. It is a quiet spot qnd you can enjoy the silence and the mountains.

We really loved the hotel. The setting and views are amazing. Staff is very friendly and hour waiter Tamas was absolutely amazing. Room was lovely and the little window enclosure where kids sleep is really cute. Kids club is small but our daughter enjoyed it very much. What we liked is that they go 2x day for a decent walk which is cool. Swimming area is on a smaller side and the water is in my opinion not warm enough. Sauna is pleasant. The highlight was definitely the food, especially the dinners. It’s every time combination of buffet and served meals. It changes every day and the food was consistently impressive. We will definitely come back. Another great thing is that you can hike many places directly from the hotel. So if you choose so you don’t need to drive at all. One big issue to improve - there is no decent coffee in the hotel. It’s all undrinkable (and yes, we are coffee People) but in a top place like this having great coffee should be compulsory. This way, we had no coffee for a week!

We visited the Gradonna Mountain resort from the 27th of December until the 4th of January 2013. At this time, the hotel had just been open for one week. What struck me immediately was the design and architecture of the hotel.

They opted to go for a hypermodern look and feel, which in our opinion made for a hotel with a very cold, sterile and basically just uncomfortable atmosphere. There are concrete pillars everywhere and the lighting reminds me more of work place or a dentist’s office rather than a luxury hotel. When you come in from a long day on the slopes you want to come into a warm, cosy environment and this is where they completely missed the mark.

We stayed in one of the many chalets the Gradonna has. When we got there it turned out not all beds were made. Some of the mattresses were still in their original packaging! Then, it turns out, they had not cleaned yet since all the constructions were done...so they still had to come and do that when we had already checked in and had taken up residence.

The interior of the chalets is of high quality but bland and uninspired only housing the bare minimum. There were no towels, no soap, no shampoo and only about 3 clothes hangers per closet. On the plus, the kitchen was state of the art. The chalet also featured an infra-red cabin which is great to relax in after a long day on the slopes. Another plus of course is that you can just ski down right to your chalet. There also is plenty of space for your equipment and there is even a heater for your ski boots. Moreover, the view from both the chalets and rooms is fantastic.

Moving onto to some of the hotel facilities. The bar area only has 10 tables to accommodate the 800 or so people the Hotel can house. There were 10 tables, perhaps less even. Instead, they had about 60 seats at the huge bar which was built in the shape of a square with the staff and all necessities for the bar in the middle. You are not accommodating 100 singles who will sit alone at the bar and even then there was nowhere near enough space to accommodate the amount of potential guests.

The biggest disappointment must have been New Year’s evening there. They hid the band behind the bar so only about 10 people could see them. All the families (because there were no tables) had to stand around the bar, glancing at the other guests across the bar which made for a very awkward and uncomfortable New Year’s atmosphere. There were no decorations. Bar staff could not cope with all the people. The Bar had spotlights which would shine right on top of you. As it took about 20 minutes just to get a drink and the atmosphere was so atrocious we decided to celebrate 12:00 amongst ourselves in the chalet.

The cherry on top though has to be the fact that we as HOTEL GUESTS were not able to be seated at the New Year’s evening dinner. Chalet guests were not calculated as Hotel Guests and so we were told that there was no space for us in the Restaurant. In my opinion, for New Year’s there should be a seat for every hotel guest. So after talking to the Restaurant manager we had to eat outside of the hotel and were lucky enough to snag the last table at a nearby hotel.

As for the food, I can only judge the lunch menu because of the aforementioned explanation that chalet guests apparently are not hotel guests. (Those were, btw, the actual words of the restaurant manager) The lunch menu was very good. Classic Austrian and contemporary cuisine, good portions and great service. Staff was polite and very professional.
What is great is that they have ski rental and a ski shop in the Hotel and even a ski school. Also the parking at the hotel is easy and straightforward.

With the staff in general I found the quality of the service to vastly differ from employee to employee. Some did an outstanding job, really going out of your way for you with a top notch attitude. Then there were others who were on the other end of that spectrum. Consistency in the quality of your service amongst the entirety of your staff is of course crucial to ensure everybody gets the same, high-end treatment. And once again, especially in a 4 star superior hotel that charges exorbitant prices and markets itself on the luxury and high-end experience they promise.

Conclusion:

All in all, while there are some good points it is the basic, important things you look for in a hotel that are either non-existent or just fail to even deliver in the slightest. The atmosphere, the interior, that feeling of relaxation and comfort; it just isn’t there. You want to feel at ease and feel at home at a hotel and this is just not the case at the Gradonna.

We have spent 5 nights in this amazing Hotel in August, 2016.
We travel a lot, in good circumstations (usually in 5*), and we are really critical, we expect good service for our money.

Now We expected a normal 4* Austrian Hotel, but this one is really went over even our (pretty high) expectations!
We were amazed!!!

The STAFF - ecpecially the hungarians - were amazing, and worked hard to do their best.
I must mention
- BALÁZS : who gave us nice trip ideas around the place,
- KRISZTIÁN: he is really professional, with good knowledge of wines,
- TAMÁS: was always very friendly, and helpful.

The Staff in this Hotel even made our Holiday more wonderful!

We loved the natural-minimal style, loved that the Hotel is very clean, and the CUISINE!!

To be very honest, even though we Love the country, Austria, but Austrian Cuisine is not the World Leader Cuisine...and I think I was very polite... :) but not in this Hotel!! The FOOD was excellent!! Almost 'fine-dinig', gourmet food! Wow!!

There is a big, clean, pool-wellness area inside-outside, with outstanding view to the beautiful mountains.

Rooms are really comfortable, very kids-friendly, with a cute 'kids-hut' in the room, what my Son just loved very much!!

All in all, this is a really Great Hotel, I am pretty sure to return, and highly recommend to everyone!

I've stayed in Gradonna for 4 nights just last week, and i have to say that i left with mixed feelings about this hotel...
On one hand, the hotel itself is beautiful, the rooms are top quality, and the view that surrounds the hotel is truly breathtaking!
We've used the hotel basically to sleep, eat breakfast and dinner, and relax in the afternoon before dinner.
The outdoor pool is amazing with it's heated water and amazing views of the valley that surrounds the hotel. Even with cold weather like it was when we were there, using the pool is a must!
However, i ran into some issues due to the fact that me and my wife don't speak german. Let me elaborate on that:

On the 1st meal there (dinner) we didn't had an english menu, so we asked for one, and it was promptly given to us. On the 2nd day, as we sat down for breakfast we noticed that the menu for the day was already in our table, and it was in english already.

Then the problem came on the 3rd day. We sat down for breakfast and noticed that every table in the restaurant had a menu, except our table. We then asked for the menu (in english ofc), and the waiter (Sandor) told us that they didn't had the english menu available at that time, but one would be available at dinner time. No problems there, since we only need the menu for dinner anyway.
Much to our surprise, when we sat down for dinner later in that day, the menu that was in our table was in german. We asked the waiter (Sandor) for the english menu once again, and he told us that they didn't had an english menu and immediately after asked us what we wanted to eat.
Well, if i don't speak german, how am i supposed to know what i want to eat if i don't understand the menu??? I went to speak with the hotel manager about this, and he apologised and said he was going to take care of it.

After about 5 mins a waitress named Steff came to our table and explained that since we didn't had an english menu, she would translate the menu for us so that we could know what we were going to eat.
She even went the extra mile on that day because the dessert was a buffet, so she took the time to explain what every dessert was in english.
Despite all of this attention and care by Steff, we just can't overlook how we were treated by Sandor during our stay in Gradonna. It was clear that we were treated differently than every other guests. Either cause we don't speak german, or because both me and my wife have a relative young appearance, so maybe he felt we weren't "worth" his time. Not to mention that his spoken english is terrible, which is odd since he is the head waiter from what we could tell.

So overall, the hotel has magnificent installations, the view is amazing, the front-desk staff is super helpful and speak fluent english, however the service provided by Sandor in the restaurant was appalling, and if it weren't for Steff i don't know what we would've done. It's a shame this happened, cause everything else was top notch.

So if you don't speak german, beware, because the service you get will ultimately depend on who's serving you...

Great location, beautiful room with a stunning view (good isolation!), extraordinary food (dinner is served in courses and all the courses, every single day were fabulous). Many hiking paths, possibility to rent e-bike (40€ per day), indoor and small outdoor pool, great staff who does their job with smile. We received a bonus from the hotel - voucher for the gondola to Adler Lounge and we used it, I definitely recommend this because the view is magnificent! Also, at the check-out from the hotel, we were given a bag with home made products which is a really nice touch. This hotel is worth the money it costs! The only thing I didn't like is that you have to pay a short stay supplement.
