This is a very small hostel with friendly staff, a comfortable common area, and a small communal kitchen. It is located about a 5-minute walk from the main square and just a few hundred meters from the bus station. It is one of the cheapest options in Villa De Leyva, and I would highly recommend this hostel to any budget traveler.
I’ve stayed two nights at the hostel in a 4 dorm bed. The room was very small for 4 beds and backpacks. Not enough lockers were in the room for everyone (some more lockers were downstairs in the common area). Couldn’t open the window to get some fresh air in due to beds in front of it. Breakfast was included - cereal and yoghurt and two crackers or an egg and two crackers. I found the woman who checked me in and was preparing breakfast not very friendly. In general I had the feeling they were quite bothered when people asked them things. She was not the owner though. Limited English which is fine though. WiFi worked for me only downstairs in the common areas, but that could have been my phone. It’s a cheap place, but girls I’ve met got a double room around the corner for less money and the place was almost a hotel and super clean and newish. I think for the money you could find nicer places. …
I have just read some of the last reviews and wonder if it was the same place. It is a hostel- not a 5 star hotel. While I was there, it was very quiet with lots of nice considerate people. Lilian (the owner) had a women working there with her since she has the hostel and other rental places nearby. For hostel standards, it was clean, everything worked and it was in a quiet location a short walk from the center of town. One night, Lilian put on a free pasta dinner for everyone staying there and tried to convince us all to speak Spanish during the dinner. It was great. Gracias Lilan
The first thing we saw the night we arrived there was a big mouse in the kitchen on the fridge. The cleanliness is terrible the tend we stayed in was not clean and there are cockroaches. The mattress was very very dirty. The staff is friendly but they allow loud and music so you can't rest at all. The price compared with the quality is expensive.
Honestly, I wouldn't really recommend this hostel. I stayed there one night. The bathroom wasn't really clean during the time I was there. The kitchen didn't really appeal to me to use it. And there were quite some signs everywhere telling me that check-out was at 12.30. So I made sure that I was there before 12. But no one was there. I waited for little over an hour. Then I just left my key on the counter with a note and took my deposit from behind the counter. Made me feel quite uncomfortable.
As I worked in Hotels and Hostals all my life I can easily say this staff NEEDS SOME MANAGEMENT CLASS The first point for a hostel or a hotel is to provide a decent sleep first and nice friendly atmosphere . Ok that said , could not sleep because of the constant loud music … BASS who puts a loud bass boomer blaster in the courtyard … I arrived loud music … Than I woke up because they do not know that when u plug your phone if the level is high than blasting music came out at 8AM … made the same error every morning …ALL DAY AND NIGHT LOUD NOISE can’t read can’t concentrate … It looks they made this hostal more for the love of money than for the love of traveling they know nothing about managing and making a nice place they literally ruined my stay in villa de leyba which is a beautiful place by the way lots of nature lots of trekking and activities … Heard a lot of other customer leaving before they had for the same reasons ……
worst hostel and worst staff if you want to visit villa de leyba do not go there cannot sleep TOO MUCH NOISE and music … what a way to enjoy nature … could not get a minute of sleep horrible horrible idea going there … With the amount of choice u have I would recommend anything is better than this one. NOT PEACEFULL NOT CALM no sleep
Small ROom small backgarden ok but just loud blasting music afternoon and night. It is far away from the center no shop no restaurant around. Close to the terminal . this hostal will ruin your trip to villa de leyba.
We stayed two nights in a triple room. When we arrived it looked more as a building site than a nice hostel (they were painting) but everything was cleaned up until the evening. The room was basic but good, the bathroom was clean and provided hot water. The kitchen was not very clean and provides basic equipment only. Ok for what you pay for.
We stayed in the dorm for a few nights. The rooms are a little squished, but for the price, location and friendly atmosphere - no complaints! There are big wooden boxes to keep your things in (bring a padlock). There's a kitchen with a water filter (fantastic) and a small back garden with a few hammocks and chairs etc. Even options for sleeping in a few tents out back, too. We even bumped in to Robert the mural painter in cartagena!
