Ask if there's an "event on" at the hotel and if there is get a room as high as you can!!! The hotel is a large modern building that also provides for "celebrations and private parties" etc and when its booked don't expect any sleep until past 2am if you are a light sleeper so make sure you get as...

This hotel is situated at the top of the Encumeada pass and ideally suited as a base for both north and south coasts of Madeira, the high plateau and for levada walks. A car is a must for this isolated spot. The hotel is in the most beautiful area, the mountains are the most epic backdrop for meal times in...

A great location near the summit of the Encumeada Pass. Although we were booked a superior room it was small and basic, but clean and fresh. Often rumoured to be cold up here the room had heating and we were very comfortable. The restaurant has a captive audience and this was reflected in the quality of the evening meal offerings....

We arrived soaking wet at the hotel and the receptionist was not overly forthcoming re helping us to wash and dry our clothes. However, once that hiccup was sorted we could not fault the hotel. The clothes were washed and dried (at a price) and the meals were excellent. The hotel is a popular wedding venue and guests are warned...

On my round trip through Madeira I stayed there cause I wanted to have a good starting point for hiking. The area in the mountains is definitely great for hiking but the hotel maximum average. I ordered fresh fish fillet but it tasted like Captain Iglu right out of the microwave. And I am pretty sure that it was. The...

Love this hotel, have stayed there several times. The surrounding landscape is breathtaking. The rooms are extremely comfortable and clean, the rooms I have stayed all had balconies, where we can sit and relax watching the amazing landscape during the day or the starry night while having a drink. The restaurant food is extremely tasty! Staff is extremely friendly and...

We stayed here for a second time this year. 2 weeks this time. Managed to get the same room with amazing mountain views. The hotel was still extremely noisy, no one can close a door here, only slam them no matter what time of day or night. The bed was still rock hard and very noisy. If you dare to...

I stayed at this Hotel to attend a friend's wedding. My bedroom was clean and comfortably furnished, with a small balcony with table and chairs where you can look out onto the Mountains around. Flat Screen Tv had British News Channels which was a bonus. Staff were always friendly and helpful. Food and service is excellent. The views of the...

We stopped at Hotel Encumeada for lunch during a drive, so this review is for the restaurant only. We had an amazing meal of steak and meat brochette. It was perfectly cooked, and we sat outside with stunning mountain views! Loved it!

The hotel itself is clean and simple. Staff are helpful but not overly friendly which is fine. Rooms simple and yet linen changed everyday and well cleaned. The scenery is stunning and can be seen in sunshine/cloud/winds. There is a good choice of food in the Evening buffet although meat and fish does not always look appealing but salad bar...
