We visited this hotel for the second time following our first trip in 2009, this time we came equipped with some netting for the windows and a plug-in mosquito zapper which was a cheap and effective way to stop mosquitos buzzing us at night. Some people have said that the hotel is in need of a little updating and whilst...

Stayed one night during our recent two week stint in Portugal. Were very much looking forward to a stay in a Pousada and expected much better accommodations. We were told upon check-in that we should not open our windows due to mosquitos. With no air conditioning we were sweltering in the heat and got very little sleep. The place really...

An amazing weeks holiday in Madeira. All of it totally exceeded our expectations. The hotel was comfortable and a great location for getting to lots of places (Port Moniz,, Ribeira Brava and Funchal). We were on our 'babymoon' and I was 32 weeks pregnant. We had some problems with our hire car overheating and we ended up having to find...

• location just below Encumeada pass is good for both mountain and coastal areas • staff is very friendly and helpful; my special thanks to the young lady who "runs the business" so efficiently! • nice and spacious room in the "block house" • restaurant: you should try the soups! • don't miss the Miradouro close to the hotel

We stayed at the same time as EagleDK and indeed followed them onto the Jardim Atlantico and we concur with most of their comments. The location is stunning, the staff are some of the best we have come across and the food is superb; those are the good points. On the downside the whole place badly needs updating. The bathrooms...

Advantages of this place are: Location in the middle of beautiful mountain landscape and a cosy/friendly atmosphere with some rustic and patina. We had booked a triple room in order to get three full beds but on arrival we were offered a small, dull and spartaneous hostel-like double room with an uncomfortable extra bed. The friendly female host was very...

Stayed in Log cabin unit, which was peaceful (a little noise from upstairs bathroom) and with great views from the bedroom window. Breakfast and set dinner good value. Good supermarket on route to Ribeira Brava, from lunch stuff

The geat thing about this place is the location. We stayed in the annex and had an amazing view over the mountains. Room comfortable. Bathroom fine. Good dinner and breakfast. Nice beer on the terrace looking at the view. Great sunset. All at a very reasonable price. Good base for walking too. Hightly recommend this place. Bit of a gem.
