Lenin is a gentleman. Creaky wooden character, yet comfortable, ok washing facilities. Great just to lime out, watch the river flow from the veranda, though rocking chairs feel like they've been savaged by caimans. Would like to give a higher mark, but El Castillo was dead apart from the mosquito life. Managed to grab a few cold beers from a nearby restaurant with no food. No meals being prepared anywhere it seemed. Only traveller in the village. Nicanomics these days I guess. No unwelcome local glances; few welcome faces either. I just seemed immaterial. The castle was interesting. But apart from blotchy skin, El Castillo was a non-event. Usually enjoy river trips, and this was, if nothing much else, a pleasant wee romp down & back up to the relative metropolis of San Carlos, where I could indulge in playing football with the locals (when I could briefly get hold of the ball). With such energy & skills, how can Nica be dismissed as a baseball nation?!

I fear I may be staying in the best spot of our trip, with many more months to go! Lenin and his family are super helpful and normal!! The accommodations are great, if you are a budget backpacker, you will find it luxurious, but at a great price. Firm beds, quality linens. Can't recommend this spot enough!

Probably the best hostal at el costillo. The owner (lenin) is a very kind and helpfull man who can speak english. The food is good and rooms are clean with a private (tiny funny) bathrooms. There is a nice 2 person hamock where you can chill. The owner can arrange some trips. We took the basecamp bartola tour for 2 days (recommended!). There is a good vibe!

Prima prijs-kwaliteitverhouding, warm aanbevolen!
