Best hotel in El Castillo, Rio San Juan area. The owners Julia and Nena manage a clean, beautiful property at the riverside of Rio San Juan. The food is first class, and you can walk to the colorful little town of El Castillo
Our group of 16 spent three nights exploring the El Castillo area, and are SO thankful we chose to lodge at Hotel Victoria. Literally, from the moment we stepped off our boat, Julia was waiting to welcome our group to this unforgettable area. We had one entire section of the hotel (the west building), which consisted of 6 bedrooms and a private living room area, as well as our own balcony. It was SO nice having this space so our kids could play and not bother other guests. The rooms were clean, cool (A/C!), and all of the beautifully polished wood gave such a nice rustic feel. The rooms had TVs but not sure if they worked; Wifi didn't reach this building but that didn't matter to us! We enjoyed the included breakfast, and chose to eat 2 or 3 dinners at the restaurant as well. Food was great (loved the smoked pork, the burger, and kids loved the chicken) and prices were reasonable; service was just incredible! Julia, her son, and her sister Nena are a hospitable, organized team! Using the hotel as basecamp, we enjoyed a kayaking trip, a hike in a reserve, a few birding trips, a caiman night tour, and of course time exploring the historic fort. We wouldn't stay anywere else in El Castillo, and while it looks like there are a few other lodges around, we LOVED being IN the town of El Castillo--it is so walkable and we loved immersing ourselves in the town for a few days. Can't wait to go back (if only it were a little closer--but then it wouldn't be the same!)…
Everything was perfect. The room was overlooking the river with a balcony. It included refrigerator, Wi Fi, TV, air conditioning, hot water, king sized bed and it all was very clean. Julia and Nina were great hosts who saw to our every need. The free breakfast included fresh fruit, juice, coffee, eggs, pancakes and waffles. The other meals were equally delicious and reasonably priced as was the bar. They can also arrange any tours that may be of interest. The town of El Castillo has no cars and the main street is more of a clean path. It was very quiet and the people were very friendly. You have to put up with a two hour boat ride but it's worth it.
Staying three nights here. Nena, Julia and Nancy were serving us. They made all possible to make our stay comfortable. The food was delicious. Nena arranged fishing and nature tours with Juan. Based on their webpage credit cards will be accepted but that's not true. They promised to correct the information. Highly recommendable accommodation.
Always coming back to this beautiful place with very special attention by Julia and Magdalena. This place is highly recommended. Good breakfast and dinner by the river. Excursion can also be arranged.
My partner and I stayed for 3 nights here and thoroughly enjoyed it. The rooms are lovely, with air con and balconies, food very good, and the hosts are cheerful and friendly. It's in a good spot in the small charming town. No English is spoken but the sisters are very tolerant of bad Spanish!
The owners could not have been more gracious. Our room was right on the second floor with a shared balcony on the river. The bed was comfortable, and there was room for chairs and tables. quite a large room. There is a refrigerator and warm water shower. The location is at the end of town and is very quiet. The food was well prepared, although bland. This is a perfect location in a lovely town, great for exploring Rio San Juan
Having spent a day in a boat, this hotel was a comfortable and clean surprise. The wooden building overlooked the fast running river with a large terrace where meals are served and there is a bar. The bedroom was large with good aircon and comfortable bed and en suite bathroom with a shower of warm to hot water. Very helpful staff.
This sister run hotel was a perfect way to finish a trip to the South of Nicaragua. After bouncing around wonderful places in San Carlos, Solentiname Islands and other spots in El Castillo, we found our last night here. The room had beautiful wood finish and a second level with hammock and rocking chairs that gave a picture-esque view of the river. The A.C. worked and the showers had hot water running. Both are a luxury.
My wife and I and two friends traveled with a guide to El Castillo and stayed for two nights at the Hotel Victoria. It is about 300 m downriver from the boat dock-- a short walk. The hotel was outstanding with helpful staff and an excellent restaurant. We also booked a four-hour tour of the nature reserve and an evening tour to see night creatures including caiman, iguana, lizards, and birds. Both had excellent guides and the night tour was great.
