I travelled solo to Hotel Playa Calera and was given a room bigger than my first flat! Huge bed, enormous balcony about 200m from the sea with views behind me over the mountains - amazing as the sun lit them up as I tucked into breakfast. Everything was spotless. Breakfast buffet really enjoyable. Staff friendly. The weather was warm in the main (OK downright hot on a couple of days) although the rooftop pool terrace was greezy enough for me to go back to my room for a jumper. The courtyard at the front is a bit of a concrete jungle but at least it was an easy walk back with bags of shopping from local boutiques or after a lovely meal at a local oriental restaurant or La Islita pizza place. The room had a lounge area with plenty of sofa space and kitchen facilities including an induction hob, coffee maker etc.

Such a beautiful hotel with lovely, large rooms with kitchen nook and balcony with a incredible view to the mountain straight above us. The breakfast buffet was also wonderful and we spent an amazing week here hiking, you can start directly from the hotel to do several amazing hikes! Definitely an amazing island and here is the perfect place to enjoy it!

La Gomera is one of the best of the 6 inhabited Canary Islands - very green and mountainous and only a short ferry trip from Tenerife - and Valle Gran Rey is by far the best small resort on the island. Smart hotel by the sea with excellent large rooms and comfortable beds and many balconies have impressive sea views. Breakfast was the usual buffet affair and can be eaten at outside tables. The small swimming pool on the rooftop is warm (a rare find!) and there are wonderful views from the surrounding solarium, which is well-equipped with sun loungers and parasols. Be warned ... it can get very windy on the roof! The hotel is not cheap and lacks atmosphere in the bar and lounge areas in the evening but there are many restaurants and shops within a very short walk and the brilliant FREE Gomera Lounge Bar has excellent live musicians playing every night and is only one minute walk away! Parking near the hotel was not a problem and a hire car is recommended for trips up the valley and around this beautiful island. We will definitely be returning as soon as possible!

Good modern hotel with large rooms. Great roof top pool. Good breakfast. In walking distance of many bars and restaurants in the tourist part of Calera. Dinner buffet a little limited and not the best but relatively cheap.

Good looking, comfortable hotel near the sea in Valle Gran Rey. The location is very convenient near the beach, restaurants and bars. We had a large room on the third floor with view on the hotel square/entrance and the village, mountains of the Valle Gran Rey and part of the sea. Although sea view is advertised, the balcony did not face the sea, it was more facing the land, but part of the sea was visible from the balcony. In our experience, it was a bit noisy. Local children playing loudly on the hotel suqare, one nearby bar with live music, every night and also some noise of other rooms in the hotel. All in All, not the quiet, relaxed experience we were hoping for. I think that the rooms on the other side are more quiet. The beds were large and OkK, although they moved around pretty easily, also creating noise that bears through the floor. Bathroom OK including toilet and with shower in the bath tub. Breakfast was OK. Underground parking is very convenient.
