Sri Lanka is a tropical island with world-class surf, located east of the southern tip of India. Here you have fantastic surroundings with lots of wildlife and beautiful nature, in addition to great surf and a mellow atmosphere at the surf school. ‘Lanka is the home of endless beaches, heavenly cuisine, tropical climate, and a great variety of places to visit. The camp is situated near Kabalana Beach in Ahangama, a little surfing village located 3 hours south of the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo. It is a charming place with a few restaurants and a relaxed vibe. Because of this fantastic villas, the beautiful beach, and the world-class surf, we have chosen to place our surf camp here.

Spent 1 week at Lapoint Ahangama and really enjoyed my time there! If you’re here as a backpacker I wouldn’t suggest spending more then one week at the camp. They really make you feel taken care of in terms of arranging Tuktuks and recommendations of where to go. The lunch there tho is not the cheapest (compared to Sri Lankan prices) but the food is really good! Really recommend it if you want to both see Sri Lanka and surf at the same time.

Room Tip: Travel when it’s not rain season. The waves are best in high season. Also wear tights if you surf...

I stayed for 3 weeks, and it was fun, social and great for leaning to surf. Everything was well planned, the food was amazing and the social hosts were very outgoing and easy to talk to. The surf lessons were very instructive. If you are on level 1 you already on the second day learn to surf green waves.

The Crew at Lapoint is super welcoming and will help out with any request you might have. It is a great way to stay to meet people while solo travelling (slept in doorm with 3 other girls), I met friends I will continue travel with for the next months. Good food (they are serious about caring for your allergies, which can be difficult in other places in Sri Lanka), clean and functional rooms with nice A/C. Nice beach just across the road and several good lunch places close by. Rajit, my surf instructor, did an amazing job teaching me to get to the next level in surfing, wish I could bring him every time I get into the waves! Well organized camp and things run smoothly so that you can relax while there. I was there for 3 weeks, recomend 2-3 weeks to really get the surfing going. Sometimes a bit to much party for my personal liking, but you can choose to not participate when tired from surfing. A must-try if you have not stayed at surf camps before ☀️

Amazing staff and food! Social hosts were great and the staff was so nice. Super nice experience for both solo travelers and those who travel with friends. Good surf instructors and a very good program. Would 100% recommend and do it again myself.

The accommodation: really clean, the food was delicious with a great range of local cuisine, the local staff were really friendly and helpful. The Surf: local instructors knew the beaches and the breaks well, great for positioning, theory sessions were useful even with prior experience. Social hosts: really friendly, laid back and encouraging. Overall: well organised, felt very safe, the team made the stay really easy allowing us to just focus on having a good time and catching some great rides

Don't know where to start with this review about Lapoint Surf Camp in Sri Lanka. This was the third time I stayed at one of Lapoints camps and it's never a disappointment! The local staff and social hosts/camp manager are amazing, as well as the surf instructors. You get served amazing breakfast and dinner at the camp and let me say; it's probably some of the best meals you'll ever have! When I first got to the camp I was terrified of the ocean, but the surf instructors really adjusted the lessons to your level, and at the end of my stay I didn't wanna get out of the water. Surf now brings me so much joy, and it's all thanks to the amazing people working at this camp! This was also my first time traveling alone, and I can honestly say in was one of my best decisions ever. You meet so many amazing people at Lapoint, and many of the those who are staying there are also traveling by themselves which makes it so easy to connect.

The staff is really nice and can help you to advice places to visit in the area. Because of covid there was less staff, they still managed to make the week an incredible experience. Myself had no surf experience at all. It was a great place to learn to surf and the surfteachers were amazing. Around the surfcamp there are a few of places you could go for lunch. Dinner was made in the camp and I have to say that there was no day I did not like the food. The dinner was specially a lot of dishes from Sri Lanka. It is also a nice place to chilling around the pool after the surflessons.

I spent two weeks at the camp 27/12-9/1 which has been a blast. There are generally 30 ppl staying at the camp (full camp) and everyone’s super friendly, with a mix of ppl traveling solo or with friends. The house is really clean and nice, on the other side of the road to the beach (2-5 min), the staff are super friendly and welcoming, the food at the camp is really nice with various local specialities. Relating to surfing I believe Sri Lanka (Ahangama area) to be optimal for beginner as myself, as there are no strong currents and good waves. Went from level 1 to 2 in my two weeks and learnt a lot! They arrange various avaricious; both at the camp (pool party, volleyball) and out of the camp (eg dinners, safari, jungle tour). There’s also plenty to see and do in the area (beaches, markets, snorkelling, diving, tea plantations, turtle hatches, jet ski etc..) To summarise, I had a great trip and would defiantly go back!
